Level 22 warrior - how much defense?

How much defense should a level 22 warrior have?

My current setup gives me 90 w/o protect. Judging from how much of a beating I take from crabs in Quifim, I guess this is significantly below average. Unfortunately, with individual armor/equipment pieces going for around 2000 gil I can't seem to find enough money to raise defense.

At level 17 I was pushing 90 with lizard gear. I think the next armor upgrade is like 21. You should probably be easily over 100 def.

If your low on money you may want to chain kill easy con creatures in a region that drops crystals and auction them off.

Or you could do fishing. It's rather inexpensive to start up, 1k for a good pole + worms, and can bring in some good money. On pheonix crayfish bring in 1k and moatcarp can run up to 3.5k. 12 packs of course. Paitence is needed though. One dedicated hour is usually enough, although sometimes hardly anything bites. Also I am fairly confident that the time of the day you fish makes a big difference in the game.

Also I auction off all my old equipment for the same price I bought it. It's like a rental store...except when you bring the item back you get all your money back.

at level 20 my defense is 95. thats with all lizard gear save 1 piece of scale.

Level 21 gives you access to beetle armor which is the next upgrade. On my server each piece ranges for 3k to 5k. The thieves at the AH, i swear.

I hear that the beetle isn't worth getting and you shuold just save up for the chainmail. The chainmail is a good 24 k i believe and the beetle armor is only about 3 def more then the lizard.

Your defense is close to what most people have at your level. You could get a full set of beetle armor until you can wear chain though, and have a little more defense. I was wearing lizard armor from 17 until 24 because I really don't like the subligar gear. I remember being hit for anywhere from 30 to 45 per hit from a crab, with over 400 HPs at your level. Crits can hurt, A LOT though, and it helps to have a party that deals damage efficiently to descrease downtime.

Anyway, remember, that at 22, crabs are pretty tough, which is why they give such nice XP. As long as you get into an efficient party, you should have no trouble with crabs at 22. Black mages help TREMENDOUSLY, and if I had the ideal party setup, I'd get 2 WHMs, 2 provokers with high defense and decent vit, 2 BLMs. You would run through crabs quickly. You may even want to swap out 1 BLM for a thief for that backstab and extra renkei chain.

I am using beetle armor and am at 107 defense and I don't have anything on my waist

I'm level 20 with 90 Def. I have one lizard piece, one bone piece and some other stuff.

You should sub MNK if you want a boost in HP. Sub THF if you want your mob to miss you a bit more and if you want to hit a bit better.

Save for chain armor. It rocks. Then, use CP for 30 gear. When you get your adv jobs, you can get CP up again real fast so you can afford the I.M. Gears which should hold you up well into your 50s, unless you're an upgrade whore. LOL.

I went with full beetle at 21 and stuck with it until 30. I was at about 110-ish def. Chain is better, but its also like 3 times the price. The tunic, especially, was over 10000 more for only an extra 3 def.

Its kind of like this, for 12-15k you can have a full set of beetle at level 21 and have about 110 defense. Or you can wait for level 24 and spend 30k to have 120 defense. Prices vary, so don't shoot me if I'm a little off. I honestly couldn't tell a difference between my tanking ability and the tanking ability of someone in chain armor.

I sprung for a full set of Centurion Armor with my conquest points at 30 (Nylia actually helped me with a couple pieces since she had no use for the armor). It was a nice upgrade, the best part was it was free!

My monk at lvl 21 has 107 defense with War subbed or with protect on (I always have either one)

With a ton of HP I do alright but I still take good hits from tough and above monsters.

I just hit level 22 with my war last night. I have 108 defense and I still need a few more pieces of armor. And i just upgraded to beetle armor. I only have about 2-3 pieces of it then the rest was sold out

I also have to add, that after level 25, WAR has an ability to extend their tanking capabilities. It's called Defender. The only bad thing is you don't want to use this if your party is chaining for xp (In other words, pulling Tough with High Def or Very Tough mobs). Because using Defender will lower your damage potential, you won't be able to finish battles as fast in xp chaining. However, when you first enter Davoi, using Defender goes a long way in keeping keep yourself alive and keeping your job as a tanker ;p Especially on those IT Brawlers ... o.o
