1h Axe Vs. Spear....

ok, soon I am gonna do the sub job quest and do a War/Mnk char.. but when I do I wanna use a different weapon over then the overrated sword... I mean everyone uses swords and not much else and I wanna be different... Anyhow Im in the NA Beta and I know Dragoons aren't activated...(or are they??) And I thought I read somewhere that spears are the fastest 2H Weapons... So the quesiton is, are spears a reasonable weapon for a War or should I just do mainly 1h Axes with a Shield.... (I am gonna at least level up to 30...)

Well if I were you I would probably use a 1h axe because they will attack much faster than the spear and probably deliver about as much damage.

i have experience with this. a 1handed axe and 2handed axe are a warriors A weapons...meaning their best. spears are one of their many B weapons. of course its recommended to use an A weapon but its all what you like and what you have more fun with. i myself use spears and never touched a 2handed axe

Skill up 2h axe, you'll hate yourself when your in your 50's and trying to join skill uip PT's to skill it.

err I am not gonna do Warrior up to the 50s.... I am gonna try Dark Knight then Paladin.... when I get to teh 30s or so... but thanks though...

But still, until your 30 you should skill up good warrior weapons. Dont spend time leveling scythe up becuase you'll have all the time in the word to level it when you're a drk. Go with 1&2h axe.

Question about weapons and TP

I basically want to become a Dragoon/sub-job <whichever gives me the best melee damage> But since i have to be level 30 first im going to be a warrior first.

So heres my question... since Dragoon uses spear?? Should my warrior use spear also because of the skill being gained with using spear will transfer over to my Dragoon job?? Or would i have to start with everything at level one skill with weapon and etc. once i become a Dragoon/<whichever sub-job is best for melee damage> at level 30?

War is the most adaptable class there is, they can use alot of teh weapons, more than any other class, the Second IMO is DRK.

Now here is how i think of it,
As a PLD you can LVL sword and Greatsword up, so dont bother.
As a DRK you use Scythes so dont worry about those.
As Dragoon you use Spears so dont bother lvling those up.
Now for GreatAxe and 1H axe, the only other class that excells at a 1H axe is BST, so my sudgestion would be while you are WAR is LVL your 1H axe and 2H axe, and wait on the other weapons till you use those jobs. NOW if you are going to keep your war i would say use what you like best. Taimoor the highest LVL WAR in beta, or the Highest LVL for that matter was LVL 55 and used Spears.

Drk can use 1h Axe Scythe is too slow it hit hard but with an axe you will hit 3 time by the time the scythe will hit!

Ex:Scythe 1 hit 40 damage
1H Axe 3 hit 15 damage each time

But you have to think about the TP!

You be at 100% TP with a 1h Axe way before a Scythe!

ok, I'm lvl 70 war so.. let me tell ya:

All you need is 1h & 2h Axe forget the rest....I've been many pts and I was never asked to use another Weapon than 1h & 2h Axe, NEVER! It's A for War and so it's just the best.

For Example now lvl 70:

2h Axe max: 251
1h Axe max: 244
2h Spear max: 232
C Weapons would be aroung 212?

And for lvl 65+ enmies war is no use if he has no Shield Break WS (2h Axe) and Samurai SJ (for TP).

Ya, there are a lot of Armors for lvl 70 war, but.. nothing really better than AF even at lvl 70. Besides Armors made of HNM items, like Serket Gear etc. but don't dream about em before u have a few Million Gils.

No, there is nothing Special about higher lvl 1h or 2h Axes.
