Not leveled my thf in about a year....

I took rdm to 75 as my first job, since I knew rdm maat was hard as hell haveing a ls member 0/21 on maat. I would level thf when I got sick of refeshing and ended up beating maat as thf. About a year ago I got so sick of going hours/days without getting a party as thf, daggers doing so little damage, missing more then I was hitting, and not being able to afforde a SH (8-9mil on my server @ that time). That I just gave up on thf. I had soloed the whole level of 66-67 with out one pt invite. It was a job I loved that was fun as hell but became no fun @ all. Would spend 5 hours seeking a pt and when I got one they would only stay together for 5k exp then disband. Then I would not be able to get another party the rest of the day. Before anyone says "You could have just made a party." I tried to many times. If there are no healers that want to party then there is no party.

Thanks to my sky shell I finaly got a vclaw and had a SH made and started leveling thf again. Its now level 70. It still takes forever to get a party but I am no longer missing more then I hit and I have having a ton of fun as thf again.

I have 2 major things I need help with.

1. What is some MUST HAVE gear for thf that does not come off a 24hr NM, a NM you need an alliance for, or costs a few mil. If I had any idea how to make 8mil I would have bought the SH a long time ago. I already got O-hat and SH.


2. I know they did changes to steal a while back and since I have been thf again I have not had any luck. I tried to steal 14x off gobs in Bikini Bay and never got 1 gold coin and same for castle oztroja 9x off the top floor yags and not one coin. I even have a Key Ring Belt for the extra +1 steal. Is there any good place anymore to steal gold coins?

well, most thf stuff on my server, like daggers, are now like 1-3mil <_< and some good thf armor, for higher lvls, is the dragon gear. which is like 200k for most peices, and like 2-6mil, or more, for the harness.

i dont remember anything about a steal update...maybe you just had bad luck :x or, you need to steal from different monsters, every time.

I know you can't steal more then 1 coin off a mob. You must depop it or kill it to be able to steal another. Every steal off the gobs in bikini bay were off different mobs. They were ones I were pulling to exp off of. I used to steal offten off them before and yes if you check updates they did make changes to mobs and steal do to 3rd party tools people were using to steal over and over off the same mob.

The recent "updated" to Steal was for Merits, but I don't believe it increased the accuracy of Steal. The only thing that can do that is gear that has Steal + on it. AF has it, THF Kote has it, Rabbit Charm, and I believe a Lv.75 Dagger.

My THF's only Lv.32, but I think if I were to play THF, I'd find it a lot like RDM in the fact that I'd have a lot of Equip swap macros. Acc gear, SATA gear, WS gear, and maybe even RngAcc gear for pulling.

As far as must have gear? I think you kinda have to have a Scorp Harness or an Assault Jerkin. Sniper's Rings seem to be a must for most THFs, though I've seen some get away with not having them. I've run into a number of THFs that really like the Spectacles for TP build, but by no means are they required. I guess find the balance between Acc+ gear and Acc+ foods, all while having your DEX & AGI for various instances.

Ultimately you'll just have to test your equipment. Find a group of LS mates along the same range, or higher who can keep you alive while you do your usual EXP thing. See how what you have tests out, and then augment from there.

I am not talking about a new patch or aura steal. The patch was about a year go or more they even disabled steal in newton or oldton movapolos for a few days when they did this again because of 3rd pt tool users stealing over and over from the same mob. If anyone remembers that.

I remember that. I think what it was is that they were using 3rd party tools to reset job abilities so they could repeatedly Steal-Hide to gather mountains of Gold Beastcoins.

People were going up to a Gold Beastcoin holding mob, using steal to get it, and using the Hide ability to shed hate. Then they would reset their abilities by use of a third-party tool and repeat.

SE made it so you could only steal once from a particular mob until it is killed. I'd rather have seen them fix the 'reset job abilities' hole. I don't think that they changed the Steal rate on mobs that have not been stolen from yet.

About your experiences in Bibiki and Castle Oztroja: was there another THF in the party that was stealing too? That would explain why you couldn't get anything, considering the coin had already been stolen.

Sadly, I could not find anything about that update/fix.

With the expansion as a THF you can get some badass gear that doesnt require an HNMLS or 20 million gil.

Akinji Peti New body piece that replaces SH. Check out the rest of the gear for this set as well. The rest of it is just as good.
Chivalrous Chain New neck item. STR & ACC. Cant beat that. (Purchansed from Assault points)
Potent Belt Replaces Life belt... again STR & ACC ftw. (Purchansed from Assault points)
Voyager Sallet Replaces Emp. Hairpin. (this actually came with CoP)
Sirocco Kukri Replaces Hornet Needle and the top offhand dagger with the update on daggers.
Suppanomimi Gotta get it if you use /NIN, just no other choice. Find someone doing AA and get it over with.
Woodsman Ring and Jaeger Ring are alternatives to Snipers -20 DRK.
Check out many of the updated dagger 68+ for mainhand. There are not too many you can go wrong with. Blau Dolch should be your ultimate Mainhand goal when you can afford one.

Pahluwan Gear When you get into the 70s, look into this stuff for melee. (Purchansed from Assault points)

Optional Gear:
Rapparee Harness is sort of optional/required equipment. If you want a Haste build this is a good item.
Check out Swift Belt for a boost in haste.
When you finish CoP pick up a Rajas Ring.
Once you get to Sea through CoP, start doing Limbus with a small group for coins and work on your Boxer's Mantle and Brutal Earring.

Most of the other gear options are the same. But those are the pieces that stand out in my mind that change things for THF in terms of needing HNM gear. Of course if you get your hands on any Heca Gear, youll be adding some nice DEX and STR to your WS damage gear.
