  • Hide + Sneak Attack

I read this in the limit break radio forums, is it true you can Hide and Sneak Attack while in front of a mob? Im curious if it does work.

    Re: Hide + Sneak Attack

It only works on monster that detect by sight.

    Example
It won't work on a quav because they're sneak, but it will work on an orc.

easy test would be to aggro, and then hide. If it keeps hitting you, it detects by sound/smell.

Will this work in a party combat situation? Like the mob is facing the Paladin? How about hide with SATA?

Yes, it will work; however, if the mob tracks by scent it'll fail as well.

Say its a beetle. Beetle tracks by sight right?
Paladin is in front of the beetle keeping it's agro. My trick partner messes up by not aligning with the mob earlier. I'd like to SATA to the Pld and make it stick. So i go behind the Pld while's he's facing the mob, Hide and Sata. Will that work?

This does work. I static with a PLD and a THF. Vorpal Scythe > Hide SATA Dancing Edge and she can do 600~900dmg. But as somebody else pointed out, the mob must agro by Sight.

              works on undead too ^^
i had a THF who pulled all the undead around ungur then hided to despawn them, then we pulled Ungur safe and easy.

              edit:
also, it won't work on anything that detects by scent or sound, like beetles.

I seem to recall a test from a few years back by Spider-Dan. He tested it against sight mobs that track by smell. There was some way where he'd hide and immediately use a deodorizer or something like that. I also seem to remember that a mob's ability to track by smell is severely limited or in some cases negated if you run through standing water or if there is currently water weather in the zone you're in.

                  Re: Hide + Sneak Attack

Hide is stopped by mobs that detect by scent or HP (if you are in low HP). For the record, Deodorize does not prevent low HP aggro. I believe that you can Hide from any scent-detect mob during rainy weather, but I haven't really tested it.

The key to whether Hide will work or not is if you are on the mob's hate list. As long as you are not on the hate list, you can Hide+SA on anything in the game. If you aren't pulling, this is easily accomplished, but if you are, there's a trick you can use: aggro pull.

If you pull by getting aggroed (instead of attacking and claiming the mob), when you bring the mob back to camp and the tank vokes it, you are taken off the aggro list. (You can tell this because if you get aggroed and another PT vokes the mob off of you, then dies fighting it, the mob doesn't come back for you.) Once you are off the aggro list, you can Hide+SA without a problem, no matter what mob type it is.

You can also use a similar trick to Hide+SATA indefinitely against HNMs and other truesight mobs. If you don't do anything to enter the hate queue (attack, rest, or heal/buff someone in the hate queue) then you can Hide+SATA(WS) and immediately disengage afterwards. Any attack you do with TA active will not put you in the hate queue. So, for example, you can TP up on darters, then Hide+SATAWS (from the front) on Fafhogg, immediately disengaging afterwards. This trick will not work in any BC, however, as everyone in the BC is automatically entered into the hate queue at the same time.

Apparently I merged about two or three tests I read a while back and merged them into one somehow. Interesting nonetheless. Thanks Dan.

If you have no hate whatso ever, like if someone else pulls it works on scent mobs. Either that or my trick attacks did the same in front of mob while hidden as SaTa from behind it.

Sorry to go off-topic, but this has been bothering me for a while. Does this apply to absolutely all BC fights? In that case, a PLD would be able to get hate from all mobs with Invincible/Sentinel without having to a) perform an action on all of them or b) have someone perform an action on all of them and cure that person, correct?

im a little confused as to how this works and whats the advantage of this, Hide + SA or SATAWS that is. is it just the position you do it from? or is it a increase in dmg?
