Ive been interested in subing whm for thh but probably wont due to the low mp and the fear probably never getting an invite ^^, But could it work if i use a weapon like aspire knife? And is there any mpdrain weapons that are a higher lvl?

It would work for solo play yes, thf/whm at lower lvs for an extra cure, but to be honest with the little mp you get I think war would be a better sub for the extra HP and Str instead. W/e you want to do in the end but if you sub whm and use an aspir knife it would drain MP. Im not sure how often this activates. Only higher lv weapons that spring to mind drain HP not MP. o.O

      Edit---

Yea prolly should have pointed that out as well. If its not a mage mob then your not going to get MP drain.

You can aspir crabs and some other mobs though, doesnt have to be a mage mob.

totally not worth it in my eyes, the proc rate and amount aspired is horrible

Yeah, Ghostraven hit the nail on the head. I used it to level Dagger to Lv.100 with my DRK. It only fired off against mobs that didn't have MP! (Just my luck I guess.) But it's proc rate is HORRID! It's not going to save your butt if you're low on MP.

As a RDM, I've done a lot of solo skill ups, and solo farming for BSeals and Kseals against Crabs. Energy Drain is a good friend of mine. Aspir 70~90MP and then 300% Energy Drain returns 94MP at Skill Lv.193. (From my tests, the higher the Dagger Skill, the higher the return. At Lv.185 I only got 80-84MP returned.)

Re: Subing mage with mp drain weapon

After level 49 once you have access to the Energy Steal Dagger Weaponskill, /whm becomes viable for soloing or skillup parties. You'd probably want to wait 1 more level to sub /whm so you can also get the Auto-Regen trait and Invisible spell which also make soloing easier. When subbing White Mage make sure to wear a few pieces of RSE that add +MP if you are not Tarutaru. I've compiled a list of mobs that you can Energy Steal/Drain and noted most of them in the Weaponskill Analysis Database guide. There is one I haven't specifically added yet, but I've not really been doing any further updating on it for quite awhile now. For the curious though, here's the mobs I have tested that you can drain MP from:
              1. All Beastmen Mages, Paladins, and Dark Knights (Beastmen Bards do not possess MP)
              2. All Elementals (Beastmen pet Elementals included)
              3. Crabs
              4. Beetles (Beastmen pet Beetles included)
              5. Worms
              6. Diatryma (Big Vulture Bird type, probably works on the ones in Valley of Sorrows and the higher leveled ones in Lufaise Meadows as well, but Diatryma are the lower leveled onces that you can possibly solo starting around level 58 if you're very careful-you can Hide from them as well if it gets too dangerous or if you get linked)

Re: Subing mage with mp drain weapon

Spirit Taker + Sneak Attack = 100+ mp stolen. I usually get between 150 to 300 mp with Spirit Taker. I can Farm for quite a while with smn/thf without the fear of links. /pet Release <me> usually takes care of any and all links. I've dropped to 50 mp on a mob and came back up to 300 pm, then back up to 500 mp etc.

However this type of combo usually works at higher levels, after Spirit Taker + Fenrir's Eclipse Bite, you usually will get a fairly decent amount of MP back. I didn't bother with energy stealing daggers or Lilith's Wand (however whm/nin with dual Lilith's wand's are kinda fun +43 evasion gear or so)

BTW, Spirit Taker = Staff 215, start working on staff skill ups.

Your damage would fall through the floor (PLD may not do that much damage while tanking, but it IS important for holding hate,) the MP Drain would kick in even less often, and it'd probably get resisted half the time, too. It's hard enough to make good use of it when soloing, I don't think it'd work well in XP at all.

What Tokitoki means is, THF gets no Staff skill, which means that any Staff skill you get is from your subjob.

If you can figure out how to reach 215 skill at LV37, let me know.
