Re: Double Daggers or Mithran Scimitar?

I am still using dagger-mithran as a 43 thf, my observations: I meet and still beat the person I'm chaining with, the damage is very nice, and I still attack fast.

The speed on mithran is really not that far behind then that of a dagger. It works pretty good actually, and combine that with squid shushi, and you got a huge dex and agi bonus to go with it.

        Mithran Schim Delay: 236
        Windy Kukri Delay: 188

Now, with dual wield 1 you get 10% haste, or a .1 modifier.

        (236+188)x.9= 381.6 if S-E rounds the figure its 382

(188+188)x.9= 338.4 again, if S-E rounds, that would most likely go down to 338.

Even just adding the delays of teh daggers before the modifier is faster than the sword + dagger WITH the modifier. This does have an impact on your TP gain whether you'd like to think of it or not.

A 43 delay difference, should I compare that to something else?

A standard knife has a delay of about 195. 195+43 is 238. 238 is a bit slower than a spatha... Ever used a spatha? For a one-handed weapon its pretty slow, not as slow as an axe, but slow.

(Note: Using Windy Kukri as a comparison tool because it is the standard knife a Thief uses around the OP's level.)

Re: Double Daggers or Mithran Scimitar?

lets see if I can recall all the stupid things I wanted to say...

OK, the tp floor. If anyone's still not clear: tp is based solely on weapon delay. lower delay = less tp. this is why axes give like 7ish tp. And jei's war/nin gets less tp/swing than a war/mnk with a single axe because dual wield effectively lowers delay, thus lowering tp. The Thief niche is that all weapons give a MINIMUM of 5% tp. so if you're dual-wielding a dagger combo that should be giving you say... 3.5 tp a swing (7 when both hits land) they both get rounded up to 5 tp (for 10 tp when both land). In said example, you're gaining 3 extra tp every 4-5 seconds. There's the thief version of Store TP.

Sword offhand won't be able to abuse this delay reduction, but thieves always get tp super fast anyway. if you're still always keeping up with or beating your tp partner, then I don't really see the need to offhand a dagger. Additionally, sword will up your DoT which is something I think more thieves should focus on (look at attack build ninjas afterall, and katana base dmg is nothing to shout about).

On the flipside, sword is actually D ranked for thieves , last I knew. Also, if you're dual wielding for stat boosts, shouldn't you just sub warrior? i.e. if dual wielding solely as a means to up SATA dmg, you're better off subbing warrior. Ultimately, Nanatsu is built as a thf/war. I'd consider offhanding an archer's knife though >.>

What else? it was never proven that VB doubles your Attack score. We never got very conclusive evidence on it from what I saw. What we do know is that it's not a 2-fold attack (which fast blade is, I think? I'll assume it is) it's a 1 hit attack that deals double damage. swing with dagger for 14, VB for 28. So in theory, SATA VB should be a doubled SATA (but subject to diminishing returns, likely). The gap in this is that I still see extremely inconsistent VBs with thieves that I party with but I kinda bank that on not enough attack. As for SATA Fast Blade, higher base damage and the fact that it's "Damage varies with TP" gives that first hit a mighty wallup, but I can't see it overtaking VB. If I had to guess, it takes a crit on the 2nd swing to push up the dmg.

One more thing: Scimitars (not schimitars. and remember. pronounced Sim-it-are =P) look awesome and they sound f'n rad.
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"

if /war gave utsusemi, i would the question here is how to get as much sata dmg as possible without losing those blinks. sometime's they're useless, but sometimes they'll save your life.
