    Picking A Lock~

    I Am Currently A 49THF And Went And Read About AF And Thats When I Read We Could Pick Locks.

    I went out and bought a stack of Living Keys and Theif Tools (orz not going to even mention the price) and then i was like snap idk what the hell im doing. I would like to ask for ANY info about picking locks. Things like what tools best and what happens when a mimic pops and how many tries to pick a lock. I am completly blind on this and the smallest info would help

    Pretty much you need two of two things

    1) An Escape macro (Perfect Dodge + warp)
    2) keys/tools


    To pick a lock, you just need to trade your key/tool to the chest!

    If you get a mimic, hit your escape macro, or fight it, your choice, just letting you know, the curse mimic's put on you can last hours.

    There are 3 keys, the most expensive is the lest chance to get a mimic, forget the name, I think it's Living Key.

    The tools are the easiest way to get a mimic.

      Skeleton key is most pricey on midgard at 120k a stack. so im guessing thats the best and i went on other areas and some people say that he living key may cause the most mimics. I guess idk "Living" Key and the chest comes to life idk ><

      Thats a million for your response the curse sounds like a beast. One question. Do Mimics Draw You in? i take it they do since noone says flee from them ><

      One more class then its off to home to test these keys out TY ^^

        mimics draw you in yes. at your level if youre picking locks for af, youll really want skeleton keys. at 70+ picking coffers you can get away with thf tools, possibly more efficient than the others by 75.

          i picked my first lock today was kinda nervous seeing as that i was in a pty in GC and didnt wanna pop a mimic lol it was a successful pop and got 4.4k for all my pty members this is hella fun ^^

            One suggestion, at first glance it may seem harmless to pick a chest in party, but it really isn't wise to do so. You could get weakened(which I've had last for up to an hour), or you could wind up wiping the party with a mimic. I've actually encountered a few people that got a rotten view of THFs after they unsuccessfully picked a chest in PT, and sumarily caused downtime and/or doom for the rest of the PT. So just be careful, and if you do decide to pick a chest in PT, just make sure the party is OK with it. Otherwise embarassment may be soon to follow.

              Um... I could be wrong, but isn't chance for mimic also based on INT? I coulda sworn I heard that somewhere...

                it might be sounds reasonable ... lol by the way just for some info if u havent fought a mimic yet in boyoda tree our thf tried to pick a lock and got completely wiped out by the mimic it attacks like a million times a second and hits pretty hard too pluss as they said before u can't run away ... thats about it

                  whats the lowest lvl to attempt picking a lock? or use lock picking tools?

                    You can attempt it at any level THF, but your success rate is usually determined roughly by how close the mobs in the area are to your level range.

                      Can you pick a lock with THF sub? Never tried with THF or THF sub. Was just curious.

                        I'm pretty sure you can only use the tools used for picking locks when you main is a thf.
                        In regards to being any lvl to pick locks, dont the different tools and keys have a minimum lvl to be used? Or did I make that up?

                        EDIT: Did some looking on alla and somepage. Neither say a level is necessary (answers that question), but somepage they can be used by any job. Alla says only usable by THF.

                          have to be THF main to pick, sub wont work

                            hmm, with the changes in items found in coffers and stuff, have thfs only resorted to picking coffers just out of fun rather than a means to make money regularly?

                            there was this thf on my old server that would camp the coffer spawn behind the 3rd iron statue password thingy in oz. she had some 1029382109 astrals to her credit.

                              Yea Astrals were the only thing really worthwhile otehr than maybe Lifebelts if tehre isnt anyone there, but there always is >.>

                              I made some 4-5M+ off of astrals before they were switched out.
