Ok... I've almost got my WAR to lvl 30, and am gettin rdy to do the RNG quest. But I dont really want my WAR as my sub-job. So then it hit me, maybe I should do theif. I mean its got treasure hunter or something once you get to lvl 10 doesnt it? So anyway, what Im tryin to ask is, should I go with theif or should I stick with my WAR. I mean my main use is gonna be lvling and farming for it... thats about it lol.

Re: Is theif worth it?
THief doesnt offer much/if anything to RNG sub save a few points of AGI. reasure Hunter is lv 15 and is only used when farming.
WAR would be the better sub, the other sub used is Ninja.
WAR: Gives some STR, Berserk, Defender for when you pull hate, Double attack if you ever go into melee range for some reason.
THF: Gives some AGI... and um... Treasure Hunter for farming. Sneak Attack adn Trick Attack dont stack with ranged attacks.

Re: Is theif worth it?
my guide book says that thf/rang or rang/thf is a good choice, but it's up to you, and i haven't tried it so i don't know what to say :\..
war/nin is usually really good instead of ranging but then again i heard ninja is pretty expensive XDD unless you have a lot of spare gil
so it's up to you :3!

Re: Is theif worth it?
Your guidebook is wrong x_x Like Toki said, thf has very little to offer rng, much less than a nin or war sub would. A rng's job is to do dmg. War sub increases dmg, nin sub can help increase accuracy and keep you safer so you can continue to do damage. Thf's main abilities, sneak attack and trick attack, don't work with ranged attacks so they're useless for rng. treasure hunter and gilfinder won't help you do your job in a party at all.
So, /thf is not a good subjob choice for rng. And before someone else comes in and says so I'll go ahead and do it. :p

Re: Is theif worth it?
To be quite honest... The Brady strategy guide is garbage when it comes to their explanation of the jobs. Having played RNG for 55 levels, I can tell you that more than likely the only viable subs for exp partying lie in WAR and NIN. SAM is a viable sub above level 60, but until then WAR and NIN both totally outclass it. If there are even any other usable subs for RNG for exp partying, I can fairly say they're more than likely not used for a good reason.
RNG/NIN is the standard RNG setup. Subbing NIN allows you to dual wield daggers, which is a great help when you get access to the first ranged accuracy daggers at level 28. The extra dagger gives you at least +8 more ranged accuracy than you would have without it. Also, on the defensive end Utsusemi is a huge benefit. For pulling it isn't entirely necessary if you're really good at it, but it'll occasionally save your ass if you have to dodge agro during a pull or something. Also, if you happen to pull to much hate during th course of a fight, your shadows will protect you until the tank can grab hate back. Overall, this setup for NIN is probably the most balanced and usable for players without a great deal of DDing or pulling experience. Not to say its not a good combination, but it isn't as dangerous as RNG/WAR and takes less skill to succeed at.
RNG/WAR was the combination I favour. WAR sub gives you access to Berserk, which in my opinion is the best DD job ability in the game. It can dramatically raise your attack power against most monsters and make most DDs pale in comparison which combined with the naturally high ranged attack damage rangers deal. The Double Attack trait goes to waste, since you can't stand close enough to melee, but Defense Boost helps out in the place of Utsusemi (while it is a poor substitute). THe only issue with WAR sub is that you must know how to pull a monster and run it back to camp without taking more than 2 hits, and you must know when to hold back when attacking the monster. Remember, Berserk raises your attack power at the cost of defense. If the monster turns on you, you will more than likely die in 5 hits or less with berserk on. You CAN and WILL die (and often) if you do not respect your tank's hate pulling abilities with this combination, so you have to be careful. This issue can be combatted to a degree by making a defense gearswap and activateing defender once you get access to it at level 50 (I could multiply my defense by 2.2x by deactivating berserk and swapping into my def gear).
Hopefully this will help you choose a good sub for RNG. I'll tell you, I did die often as RNG/WAR in my static because I enjoyed more than anything to push our tank to his limits. He's a freaking amazing PLD now, i'll tell you. If you dont enjoy dying just to see the huge numbers pop up like I do, then just cool your jets, be calm, and pick your shots. Have fun ^^

Re: Is theif worth it?
If the OP's question is if its a worthwhile sub for rng, then why is it in the thf forum? I'd post some info on subs and such but deviantkat did too good of a job. The only thing /THF has going for it are Flee (a 5min recast) and a small evasion boost. But, our evasion is already so unbelivably terrible that any small increase really isn't going to do crap. It has its uses when farming extremely low lvl mobs and shadows arent needed (flee just flatout rules) but like Kat said, stick with /WAR or /NIN, btw /WAR ftw.I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

Re: Is theif worth it?
<.< that brady strategy guide was garbage. i own one. it suggested galka as the best race for summoner because you get high hp and vitality(yes, you heard me right)... now don't get me wrong, a galka can be just as good of a summoner as any other race, but not because of their high hp and vit (when are you gonna get hit as a smn, anyway?) and it said that ninja/thief was a good combo (fyi, if you are a nin/thf, you might as well be a nin/no sj, cuz you can't tank as a nin/thf...) and lets not even go into their suggestion about war/whm XP
the people who wrote that guide had no idea what they were talking about when they wrote it. i think they listened to the worst dunes n00bs for their advise on job combos...

(AGI helps out with SATA...but who knows? Probably not a great choice for an EXP party )
My two cents about THF:
We get good drop rates.
We have high evasion (Best evasion)
We have excellent Dexterity
We manage hate in parties at LV 30.
And of course, like people said SATA doesn't stack with ranged attacks.
Everyone also claims that Ninjas are awesome tanks...But I personally don't necessarily agree that a solo ninja is considered a tank. Especially post lv 37.
People also claim that pre-buffs wear out if you enter 2-3 missions to fight dragons too. (Which is another stupid rumor)

I think if the game just gives you a piece of paper with website address.....
guess they'll never do that because then the guide books will never sellThere are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
