  • Any info on the Leaping Boots BCNM?

I really don't want to camp this, and I'm having a lot of trouble doing it...so I'm wondering if I should try the BCNM30 to get the leaping boots?

Is the drop rate for the boots ok upon beating it? Is it a hard bcnm? Anyone have any strategies or videos of people beating it? Thanks!

On a related note, how bad is the drop rate on the new rare/ex boots and the empress hairpin?

I got my boots 1/2 before the update

and got the pin 1/1 after the update

Had a friend who camped and claimed each for 2 days straight and not a single drop

So I'm gonna have to say the drop rate is exactly the same =/

Yeah, drop rate seems the exact same I was 1/5 on Valkurm Emperor. I sold of my Emperor Hairpin since price was good at that time, got like 2mil. The drop rate seems to be the exact same since that about the same length of time it took me to get Emperor Hairpin when he use to drop that.

            Thanks for the info guys.

            Here's the BCNM info: http://ffxi.somepage.com/bcnm/5
BCNM30 in Ghelsba Outpost against 2 lizards. Here's a strat that was posted in ffxi.allakhazam.com :

            Prep:
WAR used Jack-O-Lantern, however next time I'd likely use Navarin. I wanted to boost my Evasion to avoid damage as much as I could when I got hate.
RDM used Rolanberry Pie +1 (Melon +1 first fight) for the MP boost pretty much. The INT helped with Bind/Gravity.
PLD used Tavnazian Taco each fight.

As we entered the Hut...RDM casts Prot II on all of us, pops a Yagudo Drink and rests. WAR and PLD use Pamama au Lait when RDM is full and battle begins.

RDM begins battle by casting Bind on the White Liz. PLD provokes the Brown one, WAR uses Acid/Blind bolts to enfeeble while both engage. RDM Gravities White, and casts Paralyze and Slow on the Brown as we're engaged with him.

When Bind wears, Gravity should be in place, so RDM kites the White Liz around while recasting Bind and Gravity when possible. In a situation that the White Liz becomes Unbound & Ungravitied...WAR/NIN vokes to pull it off the RDM. Shadows/Evasion absorbs damage while RDM reapplies Bind/Gravity. PLD and WAR pull the Brown one out of melee range since it is bound. Hate usually resets to RDM after those 2 spells.

Hate was always on the PLD for the Brown Liz, so petrificaton never impacted WAR's ability to pull the Liz off the RDM, nor did Voke ever fail to pull enough hate either.

PLD used I think 3 Hi-Potions total, WAR used 1 just to be safe. Once the first lizzie is down it's an easy fight.
Another person posted later that the strategy worked well for them and their drop rate on the boots was 2/8. There seems to be a good chance of making some other money on this in the process though, since Absorb-AGI, Erase and Utsusemi: Ni drop from this also.

Yeah some belt that is apparently worth somewhere in the millions can drop too...This is great because one of my close friends will ened Erase, and I will likely need Utsusemi: Ni too...I am hoping I can do this 4 or 5 times when me and my friends get 30.

Can someone please explain to me what all the xxNM acronyms stand for? I don't want to sound like a noob in PTs :|

Re: Any info on the Leaping Boots BCNM?

BCNM = burning circle notorious monster

Refers to named mobs or groups of mobs fought in an instanced battlefield, similar to the mission 2-3 dragon fight.

                  HNM = hyper notorious monster

Extremely tough NMs that are generally distinguished by conferring a special title on anyone who beats them. Often take an alliance of players or more (18-24) to bring them down.

Re: Any info on the Leaping Boots BCNM?

There are also ENM fights now, or Empty NM, which are capped instanced fights similar to BCNMs, but can only be done once every set number of days. Also, unlike BCNM fights, ENM fights don't need Beastmen seals to gain access to them, but rather specific short quests for each different ENM fight. The rewards are rare, valuable items as well as gil and large amounts of EXP, depending on teh lvl of the fight. All of these fights take place in CoP areas however so you need the expansion to engage in them.

There are also KSNM fights, or Kindred Seal NM fights, which are very similar to BCNM fights, only you fight much stronger monsters, at higher lvls, with better rewards. To engage in one of these you need a specific amount of Kindred Seals, which drop like Beatsmen Seals, except they only drop from mobs that are lvl 50 or higher.
