I find that Federation knife is a much better off hand choice right up until bone knife +1. I find I use my off hand for stat boosting, more than anything (although, it's dmg is quite impressive for a level 25 dagger:
    stats: 13 dmg +2 acc +5 attack)
I use Corrosive Kukri in the main hand for 15 dmg and then use federation knife in the off hand for the +att + acc.; I too am a taru.

Also, I found that eq switching is very good with thf. I use Battle Gloves and beetles +1 2x and a venerer when gaining TP and then before I sata I switch to my drones, balance ring(+2 dex) and wonder mitts (+3 str). This helps oh so much.

also as a taru, I'd stick to Mithkabobs over sushi. THe +acc from them is nice, but out str isn't so good that we should afford to lose that boost..imho.

Squid Sushi > Tuna Sushi for THF. Sole Sushi is also good (+5 STR does wonders to adjust the low base weapon damage) but is significantly more expensive - more than twice as much as squid sushi is on Midgardsormr.

          Re: Question and Rate me

RSE for SATA, WS, Battle Gloves for TP gain. Its all about macros. I have only 3 sets of macros for equipment. I say only because i could have much more. Right now i use every line in those macros to switch equipment based on the situation. Snipers, War gloves, Assault Jerkin for TP (and other things), and Grace Rings, Merman's Mittens, etc, for SATA. Then i have a separate macro for SHark Bite.

For TP gain i have +38 acc, For SATA i have +37 DEX +26 AGI, for Sharkbite i have +31 DEX +38 ATK +20 AGI... You really cant just stick to one set of equipment.

            Re: Question and Rate me

Well since we're on the topic of rating. I hope you guys could help me out a bit.

            Currently I'm a Elvaan 34 THF/ 17 NIN. My gear is..

            Main: Archer
            Sub : Archer
            Ranged: Power Crossbow
            Ammo: Acid Bolts
            Head: Emp Hairpin
            Neck: Spike Necklace
            Earring: Beetle Earring +1 X 2
            Body: Mercenary
            Hands: Elvaan RSE
            Ring: Balance Ring
            Back: Nomad Mantle
            Waist: Mercenary Belt
            Legs: Elvaan RSE
            Feet: Leaping

What I do is I use Acid Bolts to gain TP as well as do more damage. I've noticed that with regular meele (A Mithran Shimitar and a Federation Knife) I was always hitting in the 10-20 ranged and about 5% TP gain per hit. However, with Acid Bolts I am able to hit in the 50-60 range and about 10-12% TP. So I decided to macro in a ranged accuracy set of equipment as well (Feather Collar +1, Noct +1 -body, hands, legs, and beetle ring +1). I'm gaining TP quite fast and my regular damage is good. Another thing is the acid bolts help weaken defense, which is a benefit to the entire party.

            Now my question is...

            1) How important is Genin Earring? It's only a +1 AGI difference and I already have the +3 AGI earrings ready when I hit 35, but will it make that big of a factor for a elvaan THF? I know nomad mantle +1 is another extra +1 AGI for a total of +2 AGI. Another factor is the HQ dex rings which would be another +2 AGI together. So I'm missing out on +4 AGI total. Is this a big difference?

            2) How long can I rely on Acid Bolts as a quick way to gain TP? I just want to know how long can I stay with my Archer Knives.

            3) Any other ways I can improve my play style as a THF?

Thanks for all your help ^^

              Re: Question and Rate me

Hmm, I'd say get the HQ dex rings at 14 and 36 but nomad+1 and genin can be skipped if theyre horribly high-priced. A nice piece for the future, albeit a bit expensive, is the brigandine+1. If you have enough gil try it out, if not dont sweat it. You dont need to spend 5 million gil on your first job to 50 lol. I personally got thf to 75 before we could use xbow and without a scorpion harness, and still was able to do my role. As long as your equips arent horribly gimped skill>gear for the most part. You will want to make use of equip change macros, like macro with acc dex and attack for gaining TP, then dex agi and attack for SATAWS(add some acc in too for DE).

The D of the weapon in your main hand greatly affects your SATA and WS dmg, so you may want to take that into consideration. I can not give you sound advice on what to do however since I didnt have access to bolts till lv75 thf.

                Re: Question and Rate me

                1) Genin Earring is a waste in my opinion, just like Amemit mantle +1. They offer little extra to the table for a very high price tag. On my server Genin Earring is about 300-400k i believe, way too much for 1 more AGI and I can only use it when i sub NIN and not RNG.
(And amemit is 1.5M ish for 1 str and 5 atk/ratk... its over 100x the price of the normal amemit, way over.)
Nomad +1 I felt was kinda the same thing. It was around 300k at the time for 1 more agi, not worth it in my opinion. The original only cost me 20k or so.
The HQ Dex rings are real nice though. I always tried to have the HQs because they just seemed to make sense with our naturally low dex. Then again im a DEX whore and i have +31 w/o food >.>

2)You can keep whatever knife you want to boost your stats in your offhand, but your main hand should be the dagger with the highest damage rating on it.

                3) If you can hit the mob well and your mages need a little more time, you can launch a few sleep bolts at a mob (that doesnt link other wise you might get an extra little buddy) to tag a mob you will pull and do a little damage to it. It allows the mages some time to rest and gives you a head start. When the mages are ready hit it with an acid bolt or if you're low on HP hit it with a bloody bolt to save the mages some curing.

                  Re: Question and Rate me

Okay, that's good to hear ^^ Thanks for the advice

                  Archer's base damage is 11
                  Federation's base damage is 15

Is 4 points of damage going to make that big of a difference in my Viber Bite? or even SATA in general? I'm a bit afraid to rely on my meele for TP gain even with Squid Sushi, which is why I'm trying to hold off on any daggers until 40, where I can equip my Sniper Rings.

I guess I could always try using a parser and parse out how well I'm doing. . .

                    Re: Question and Rate me

yes it will. Even though it doesnt seem like much it will make quite the difference. Low levels arent very hard to melee, the mob have relatively low evasion as opposed to the mobs at higher levels. Its easier to melee now than later ;p

                      Re: Question and Rate me

                      Well tonight I went with the archer's knifes and I was parsing 600-900 damage a fight, which is about 700 average in Garlaige Citadel, then it dropped down to about 500 damage average in Crawler's Nest. Sorry I can't post the parser info. I can't seem to make it work for the life of me ; ;

The crawlers are tougher than bats are by far. Dont worry about it too much, it happens to all of us. If you have a good hit rate w/o accuracy food maybe use some attack food if you really feel you need to.

                          Re: Question and Rate me

Well, I'm hoping my stuff on the AH has sold today so I can buy two Federation Kuriki (sp?) for the +6 to accuracy total. So today I'm going to try out just using meele and not concentrate on the acid bolts as TP gain. However......I'm am VERY tempted to continue using the Archer's because I'm usually 50% (TP wise) ahead of the other guys, and that leads to more SC. I'll post what I find tonight if it's worth it.

Also, I know people said try to get as much AGI and DEX as you can, but it seems to me that increasing DEX helps more with SATA........I mean of course this isn't with any concerete evidence and just observation, but is anyone else feeling the same way? Currently I have +27 DEX and +25 AGI.

                            Re: Question and Rate me

Before lv 60, increasing your DEX more than your AGI will help SATA more, because, at 60, you get the trait Assassin which makes TA a never-miss crit as long as you are set up properly. Right now only SA is like that so raising dex more than AGI will help you more.

And you can always use an archer sub, you dont HAVE to have 2 kukri.

Well......if DEX is going to make my SATA better then perhaps I will be using a combination of daggers for a DEX boost.......I'm not sure........losing 10 to 20 Ranged Accuracy doesn't seem like I'm going to be able to land an AcidBolts every 5 hits. I'm not sure what my ratio is atm, but I'm landing them at least 1 in 3. . .

Am I making too big of a deal with AcidBolts?

Acid Bolts are nice, they help the whole PT, but they arent soemthing you should live by. Firing off one or two while you pull and/or after you pull is a good idea, but you dont have to debuff it completely.
