Question and Rate me

Ok, the questions is simple, what ratio of dex:agil should I have.

I'm a taru 38 thf/war atm (doing nin quest now, and utseumi, damn you giddeus ><)

Currenty I got 43+19 dex and 43+17agil w/o food.

I'm wearing:

Mercenary Capn Kukuri
Mercenary capn doublet
Mercenary Capn gloves
Mercenary capn belt
Emperor Hairpin
Spike Necklace
Nomad Mantle
Noct Brias +1
Power crossbow
2X drone earrings
2X deft rings
Winged Boots
and some junky sheild till I wear my strike sheild.

Any suggestions on gear that would be better any info on dex/agil ratio and how I can set my gear to go with this would be great.

I dont think ratio really matters, just try to have as much of each as you can.

The gear you listed is exactly what I'm going to use, except I will dual weild daggers with NIN subjob. As far as dex/agi gear goes, it doesnt get much better than what you have at your level. Eat some Squid or Bream sushi for the extra DEX and you are going to have a lethal SA/SATA.

I am currently 45thf/nin.

I still wear my battle gloves. ^^

Im 66, almost 67, and still use them for TP gain. Ill use em up until 70 when i get war gloves.

Same here, unless I can get my hands on Battle Bracers+1(Lv65 ACC+3 also, they seem pretty rare though).

There isnt a point to them. Same Acc, higher price, little more def, but when do we get hit?

Need some advice on what I have as well. Reason I'm asking is due to my disappointing SATA against Dhamels in East Altep on the weekend. Pt was mostly 35-36, and I was 33 at the time, leveled to 34 in the pt.

My gear:

Main: Windurst Dagger- changed for Windurst Kukuri when I leveled.
Sub: Archers Knife (+1 AGI)
Ranged: Power Crossbow (+1 AGI)
Ammo: Various bolts
Head: Emperor Hairpin (+3 DEX, +3 AGI)
Neck: Spike Necklace (+3 DEX)
Earring: Dodge x2 (have drones waiting for level 35)
Body: Merc Captains Doublet (+1 DEX +1 AGI)
Gloves: Battle Gloves
Rings: Balance Rings x 2 (+4 DEX total)
Back: Nomad mantle (+1 AGI)
Waist: Merc Captains belt (+1 DEX, +1 AGI)
Legs: Noct Brais +1 (+2 DEX)
Feet: Leaping Boots (+3 DEX +3 AGI)

Total- DEX: +17, AGI +11

Why was my SATA only doing around 150-200 DMG, and SATA Viper bite doing 250-300? I have as much DEX and AGI gear as I can get, and I was really disappointed with the results.

Can anyone give me any reasons that the DMG might have been so low? I'm thinking the Dhamels were too high, and maybe not enough Weapon damage, but the level 34 kukuri has 14 dmg, which is one of the highest for that level. Archers knife is in offhand, so it shouldnt matter, and it's for my ranged attack anyway. I have a pretty good accuracy with it, and it helps me build TP quicker.

Suggestions?

what food were you using? if you use sushi id reccomend to add some attack+ gear

Edit: I would personally use either a second wind/fed kukri or that def down dagger instead of archer knife.

I was using Tuna Sushi. I thought about using Mithkabobs. Maybe i will try them next time.

Also, while a higher damage offhand weapon might give me 2-3 extra points of dmg on regular attacks, will it help with the one that I REALLY need, which is the SATA hit, or the SATA VB hit? I thought only main hand weapon was a factor on this...

- I pull mob with an acid bolt... if I miss, well then, my initial SATA will not be against a weakened mob, but I really dont think thats the issue.

I guess what I'm getting at is when I played other jobs like DRK, NIN in this level range, I would see THF's SATA for like 350 dmg, with crap gear, and VB for over 400.

Oh, and one more thing. Why was it that my viper bite would do say 300 dmg, but the distortion effect would be sometimes only 40-50... This was Tachi-Enpi-> Viper Bite skillchain. Shouldnt distortion do dmg proportional to the WS that ended it?

I've seen this stuff performed by other theives enough times that I have an idea what the damage shoould be, and I'm just not seeing it for my own THF, even with pimp gear. Grr... frustrating.

Renkei effect is proportional but is often resisted. Like you do 1050 dmg shark bite and can get a 5 dmg or a 1050dmg renkei effect.

You probably are getting bad results from not having enough attack in the attack<->def ratio. Also, 1 AGI is at most gonna raise youre TA aspect of SATA by 5 dmg, more likely 1 or 2 dmg, youre be better off using a good dagger offhand.

The main reason for sushi is the extra acc for the TP, not the DEX and AGI. If you use mith kabobs you need to load up on enough acc gear to hit well. If you use sushi you need to get a bit of attack gear to compensate.

Edit: Also it doesnt really come into play til later lvs, but you can increase your performance by equipping all dex/acc gear for melee and dex/agi/attack gear for SATA

Actually I use the archers for the +10 ranged accuracy, not the +1 AGI. I find it helps me land at least 60% of my bolts, giving me tp very quick.

As for my poor SATA results, isn't it possible that the mob level was a bit high for me? They are 40-44, and I was only 33 when we started. That means some of the mobs were 11 levels higher than me, which at 33 is a huge difference.

I dunno bout teh level thing. I mean you are a bit low but my LS had a 33-34 PT there over the weekend and were chaining quite well. I watched them get a few chains before i ran to Rabao to finish up ther Venerer Ring quest.

Last night, Garlaige Citadel against Seige Bats and Borer Beetles, my SATA alone was doing 250+ dmg to bats, 200 dmg to beetles. My SATA VB was doing 450+ to bats, 300+ to beetles. Much improved damage, I'm very happy now. I did switch to a different main hand dagger, but I dont think that was the reason for the increase. I went from Windurst Kukri (14 DMG) to to Corrosive Kukri (15 DMG) and I took away 1 Balance ring in favor of a Venerer ring. I dinged 35 just as pt disbanded, so I didnt get to see if the 2 Drone earrings would make much difference.
