  • Hide, and SATA solo?

Even though I just recently lved up to lv46 with THF, I still don't really know all the tricks and such that I should know. I've seen thfs do some massive damage, even solo when they use SATA. I was wondering. Does Hide have anything to do with this? Using SATA then Hide, does it give you sata damage to it's full potential?

I tried it out on a gob in rolanberry, I used SATA, and then Hide, and the damage was really weak, so I dont think it worked. I just like to know if Im missing anything. I know Hide has to have some better uses than just making me invisible.

Hide's is like invisible, dosnt do anything to your SATA, Hide is just so you can hide =D

      It's like this, usually...
The THF engages the mob, using SA(TA) and attacking from behind (gaining a bonus in dmg). Afterwards, when SA(TA) recast timer is back to 0, use Hide (if it's sound-aggro mobs, no work) and sneak behind them again, using SA(TA) and attacking for another bonus in dmg. D;/

I believe this also won't work with mobs that detect by sight but pursue by scent either (not 100% sure). Besides that, you should be good though. Just use sleep bolts/arrows for mobs Hide won't work on.

Hide lets you use SA from any area on the mob, so when soloing you can stack SA + Hide as long as the monster is sight only.
          For example:
Yags,Bombs,Gigas, some tigers, some beetles... Hide doesnt work with many mobs

            Hide's use

I'll paste a post I made on another board.

You can use Hide in conjunction with SATA on any enemy type provided you are not entered in their hate queue.

            1. Hide will only break aggro on enemies that aggro/track by sight alone. Scent trackers will uncover you if you've entered yourself into the hate list since Hide only does an aggro break on sight trackers. Sight aggro/track enemies will allow mid-fight aggro breaks using Hide (which is awesome, allowing you to do a full blown HideSATA+WS into the front of an enemy on a chain 5 if the enemy is a sight tracker).

            2. Hide will allow an SA from any direction while in use. If you are @ 0 in the hate queue, you can Hide and will not uncover if the enemy is unaware of your presence. Hide will even work if you bodypull an enemy and let someone else provoke it off of you. Sound aggro doesn't matter, just don't hit or attempt to hit (i.e. pull, but miss = hate) the enemy prior to Hiding and it will succeed if another player has taken the attention.

Here's a screenshot with HideSATA+True Strike in use on Aura Pots. Notice that the Hide effect wears off just prior to the WS, this allows me to stick it to my tank while the enemy faces him.

The same holds true with the RNG AF3 Tiger or Bone type enemies, if you look at the text you'll see that the Hide effect wore off just prior to the WS.

It even works on Gods and can be used as a frontal hate staple if needed on your tank in Dynamis.

(Example - Body Pull a Robber Crab, which normally aggros to sound. Have a friend attack it or provoke it to turn it red and take the enemy away from you (remain @ 0 hate). If you SA, TA, and Hide at this point you will be successful and can even stack it with a WS if you want to make it really painful or stick it to your friend securely

            3. BCNMs/Avatar fights have a different rule with respect to Hide. Many of the BCNMs introduce the entire party into the enemy's hate queue when the name is turned red, for BCNMs you would need to engage Hide prior to someone turning the name red for your party.

(If you fight a Prime Avatar, engage SA, TA, and Hide prior to allowing the prime avatar to become aware of your presence. If the Avatar does aggro a member, you will be uncovered as well if Hide is not yet engaged.)

Hide + Sight aggro/track enemy = Aggro break, return to 0 in the hate queue
Hide + 0 Hate in queue = Ability to use Hide without an "uncover" message from the enemy, allowing SA to be used from any direction.

I think the hard part is not knowing what you can break from, but knowing what you can and can't do to remain @ 0. There are certain enemies that you will level on that will allow you to reset to 0 mid-fight. I'm unsure if Perytons or Torama allow mid-fight breaks, but the 0-hate method always works.

It's probably one of the most misunderstood abilities that THF has, but it's incredibly powerful when used as a huge hate staple at the start of a fight. PLDs and NINs usually have their mind set at ease when they know they can go straight into an NM fight without letting someone else take the initial hate for what would normally be a regular SATA.

I'm sure the mages don't mind when the hate is stuck to the tank at the beginning, either =).

Something to add also, Hide works on other players in Ballista, allowing you to SA+Hide+WS in their face if desired. SA will penetrate Utsusemi shadows, so those NINs and /NIN should get ready to run when they see you drop from sight, lol.

Remember reading people testing the extent of using hide and getting it to do the attack in any direction. Doesn't it also work if you've got deordorize and sneak on to break hate when you hide which then allows you to do SATA anywere you want and all.

I extensively tested deodorize + hide. It doesn't work. Period. I really cannot think of a situation where deodorize is ever helpful. Ever.

If you are fighting an orc (sight aggro, smell tracking), mid-battle you use SA, disengage, have the mage cast deodorize on you, then hide, it still doesn't work.

Bottom line: unless you don't have any hate whatsoever, hide only works on very specific mob types. Just to name a few:

                  goblins
                  yagyudos
                  bombs
                  skeletons (yes, skeletons)
                  gigas
                  cocatrice

I leveled off of Toramas in Labyrinth of Onzozo around Lv 60 and I used Hide mid-fight all the time to do a full SATA onto the tank.

What I did was inform the whm ahead of the time of what I was doing, and why, and then I made a macro. My macro said, "Please Deoderize." After she deoderized me I would hit my SA/TA Hide macro and it worked like a charm.

Toramas are Sight aggro and scent tracking. I don't know why it didn't work on the orcs - that's very interesting.

                      Yup, it's all true.

Also, the list of mobs you can use it on is more extensive that you'd think at first:

Add Tonberries, pots, and elementals to that list as well. Basically, anything that aggroes only to magic can be hidden from.

It has been a while since I xp'd there, but I'm pretty sure I remember hiding from toramas. No need for deodorize.
