I was just wondering if using Merit Points to get sword skill to 240 would allow me to get Savage Blade.

Even if you did, Vorpal Blade is a Warrior-Paladin-Dark Knight exclusive Weapon Skill.

Actually you can't you see this is a quested WS from a quest called Old Wounds. You all probably know about the quested WSs so I will spare the details. But SE when they created merits made it so that if you bring your skill with merits to a skill lvl high enough to obtain the quest with a job that normally will not reach a skill high enough to obtain the quest. (wow that was probably a bad way to say it) That you cannot recieve the quest still. Basically if you cant get the quest for a WS naturally the game wont let metits allow you to get the quest.

If you have Savage Blade from another class, however, and use merits to reach 240 skill, can you use it?

You mean if you get it on another job, and then switch jobs? Uh... I highly doubt it.

THF sword skill caps at level 215 therefore the highest you could possible get it to with merits is 227 nowhere near the requirement for Savage Blade I would suggest merits in something else that is useful like dagger skill.
