    Depends on your equipment.

Viper Bite will almost always cap out your attack so you should focus on +DEX/AGI gear to boost SATA damage.

Dancing Edge will need accuracy gear (to ensure more hits connect) and attack gear (since DE has no attack bonus), although you will still need some +DEX/AGI for SATA.

I would say though SATA+DE would do about 30-40% more than SATA+VB on the same mob using the same equipment. This is purely by looking at the damage numbers the various theives in my parties have been doing. DE can get some sickening numbers though if all 5 hits connect.

DE produces devastating damage in comparison to VB. As long as you are landing all 5 swings, VB will not even come close.

        CLOAK : THF ~ 75 | NIN ~ 53 | SAM ~ 41 | WAR ~ 26 | MNK ~ 20 |

your SATA-DE equipment should include, in this order of priority:
          - enough Accuracy that you are nearly always landing 4-5 hits
          - all the DEX you can get for pure SA dmg AND DE dmg modifier
          - AGI for pure TA dmg or Attack in all remaining slots where you can

AGI vs. Attack is mostly the earing slot.... and I would prefer 6-7 AGI over 10 Attack... but choose whatever you like.

There are all sorts of equipment combinations you can try... like if you aren't pulling... bomb core for +12 Attack against the 1-3 DEX/AGI normally in ranged can be a very reasonable tradeoff.

I believe I was doing about 150-200 pts more dmg with SATA-DE over SATA-VB when I hit 60. (But my memory may be skewed.)
For farming... DE by far destroys VB in dmg.

sata viper > I got around 500 max right before I switched to dancing
dancing > up to 1k damage. average 700.

Yeah on earrings shouldn't thieves use attack+ evasion- type earrings and macro in drone or w/e just for sneak attack and/or trick attack? I did this just leveling THF sub and my THF is only 37 yet I see thieves at my level not even doing this. Are they lazy or was I just trying too hard? :p I suppose it's too much trouble and doesn't make much difference then.

I am currently doing this, but I think soon I may run out of slots in my equip switch macro for them. I would say once you get to a certain point(say 50+) its probably almost not worth it anymore, especially if you can't fit them into 1 macro.

                  Re: SATA vs. DANCEING EDGE

I was lvling on cockatrice in CT and when I got DE, it actually did about 100 pts less than VB. Would I be right in assuming this is because my attack is too low? my normal hits range from 0-10 on the really high lvl cockatrice.

Or is it because I don't have enough accuracy? From my experience with thf as sub, it seemed like SATA only stacks with the first hit, so it was my understanding that the 4 hits after the first in DE would only add perhaps 20 dmg per hit.

                    Re: SATA vs. DANCEING EDGE

definitelly DE power overwhelms VB.. though not quite sure about all that dex... depends on race slightly, but having more str or attack on the side will give DE more damage then trying to load up all in dex.

I usually select which body part has which bigger number. I would take a 5 str over 2 dex if such a choice exist and so on.

                      Re: SATA vs. DANCEING EDGE

Do this next time your in XP PT, to see what you need to improve on.

1st) Check your TP after weaponskill. If you got 14% back from it, it means all hits connected. If this is consistently true, it probably means you're using Sushi and a ton of ACC gear. If not, it may be time to invest in a Life Belt, Snipers, etc.
2nd) If all hits are connecting, and you're STILL having subpar damage...I would tend to think it's probably a problem of your ATK vs mob DEF. Most THFs by that level have more than enough base DEX to still do good damage with DE as long as their ATK isn't severely gimped. If this is the case, you're probably fighting too high mobs. If you have great gear(for DE, great would be somwhere around +50-60 ACC), you could do without sushi and just use ATK food. If you can't afford this, you'll just have to target mobs that are more in the VT-IT range(not IT++). You can still get great XP, you just have to know how to chain em^^

edit: Cockatrice in CT at Lv60, is probably why you were having this problem. Unless you hit the mob with an acid bolt, are wearing scorp harness, peacock charm, sniper, life belt, and eating ATK+ food, your damage will probably remain semi-sub par. Remember THF are not RNGs, we can't keep that consistent high-end damage against IT+++ like they can unfortunately.

                        Re: SATA vs. DANCEING EDGE

We went to CN, tonight at lvl 60 still, because VoS was crowded. I decided to sub War to fix my atk problem, and landed a DE for 700 dmg on a Processionaire with zerk on ^^

Score one for war sub over nin sub.

                          Re: SATA vs. DANCEING EDGE

My THF is LV58, and I regularly get mid-high 600s with my SATAVB (vs. low IT, eating sushi).

I'm not really looking forward to switching to DE. VB is, if nothing else, extremely consistent. I've seen DE hit all over the board in damage.
