  • got a question about monk sub

I just started an Alt character, Frisbalena on Fenrir (hit me with a /t if your on my world)

Mithra if it matters, which I don't imagine it does.

So far I've only lv'ed thf to 10 and monk to 5 and i've been doing alot of mule type activities, in about 3 days i've had the character, also playing my lv. 50 bard too, so still aways away from really worrying about it.

I seriously don't think I'm going to take THF to 75, maybe lv. 40 or 45 max on this character. Mostly for farming and I hate trying to melee with my main Taru.

Anyway, I seriously enjoyed playing Monk today, and really am intrigued by the damage it's capable of putting out.

I want to sub it for Thf, till around low 30's or so, after that I do not want to be gimped.

But, if I do sub monk, here is my question and reason for this post. Should I use H2H weapons? with Thf/Mnk I know H2H owns against undead types, but what if I'm in Qufim leveling to 25 with Thf/Mnk. Can I hit a Macro Boost, Wait 1, Sneak attack, wait 1, Combo. instead of having Dagger equipped and doing the same process only using the dagger's WS?

Basically what i'm asking is, if I'm subbing Mnk, should I always use H2H? or just against certain types of enemies? and also should I just carry a dagger with me, and experiment for myself, and see if that's any good, or no good.

I would think with the Boost/SA/Combo that would be a hell of a damage move, more than Wasp Sting or whatever non elemental WS you can use with SA.

    Thanks in advance guys!

Up to lv33 you can use Sword or H2H Weapons, but some H2H are Monk Main only.

After lv33 you go only with dagger and /nin support, Dual Wield.

I dunno if Sneak stacks with H2H-WS, never tried it.

Avoid daggers like the plague until 33. I hate xping in qufim with thieves using them. And yeah, the whole point of being /monk is to make h2h even more attractive. Martial Arts lowers your h2h delay and combo is the most damaging weaponskill thieves can use that stacks with sneak attack pre-33.
      You know I'm right.

I've played 1 to 30 as a Thief/Monk twice now (well, I'm only 27 right now.. but close), for a total of around 40 days play time (I know, it's pathetic. But I do alot of tradeskills and stuff), so I should be able to help you =).

First off, Combo is amazing. It stacks with Sneak Attack extremely well. Daggers don't get any good Sneak Attack weapon skills until level 33, everything before that is just pathetic. Gust Slash is cool, but it doesn't stack with Sneak Attack. So you really have to decide between Sword and Hand-to-Hand, and the only reason not to go with Hand-to-Hand is if you don't want to level Monk. (I can't stand Monk, but I'm leveling it anyway. Combo is too good to pass up, and I like my Hand-to-Hand weapon better than my Sword).

To answer your question about when to use Dagger and when to use Hand-to-Hand, just use your Dagger enough to keep it capped. There really isn't any reason to actually use it before level 33. Though you might want to use it if you are leveling off bees or bats or something, since they have a huge damage boost against them, but I still think Hand-to-Hand is better. Though if for some strange reason you are leveling off of Jelly's, switch to Sword or Dagger. That's not going to happen though..

Anyway, one last thing. I thought the same thing you did about Boost - Sneak Attack - Combo when I was deciding what sub to use, but I quit doing that as soon as I started partying. Boost generates a good amount on enmity whenever you use it, so you'll end up pulling agro for a split second right when you do your weapon skill. Which means your Sneak Attack won't trigger and you'll do horrid damage. If you have a really good tank you probably don't have to worry, but I didn't think the added damage was worth the risk. It didn't seem to add much damage anyway. Though if you do your Sneak Attack as your first hit on each monster, you can boost up while waiting to fight.

I hope I helped some. If you need anything give me a /tell in game =) It's rare to see anyone from Fenrir on these boards.
