Yeah.. that's the problem I had with my thief. Noone seems to take you unless you're subbed Ninja after about level 45.... Le sigh.
Yes I understand tha Ninja is a good sub, but come on! Everyone and their mothers are subbed ninja now. Where's the fun in being the same as everyone else? Yeesh.... I personally loved subbing Ranger, which was great for pulling but kind of expensive for bolts and arrows. I plan on getting thief to 75 subbing Ninja, but I have another character that I'm leveling with friends who's going to go against all the hoopla that everyone seems to follow. We're not sheep afterall.
Stay thf/nin to get the invite then switch subs. They probably wont even notice until you get hit on a pull or something. Plus, you should be able to switch to a few different subs depending on the situation anyway.
Heh... actually that's what I planned from the start. Sad to say it but my dream combo for jobs is still THF/SMN.. Ehhhh.. more because I think it's just funky then actually practical, but then again I have a very impractical life so it fits right in.
Well.. I havent heard anyone about Thief/Sam in this thread. I myself am a Thief50 atm, leveling pretty good^^ I use ninja as subjob for dual weild, to get TP for Dancing Edge. And ofcourse Resist Bind is very helpfull on some mobs. But why would you not go as Thief/Samurai after level 60? Meditate would give "guaranteed" TP on the start of each battle. And I think since Sata + Dancing Edge is the strongest point for being a Thief. (duh) So.. why not? I havent really thought further about it, just wondering
another thing, w/ the emnity loss provided by a used up shadow, is great for thieves.
so making this change has made it more thf likable, despite not being tank likable.
however i'm only 14thf/1nin
i'm too poor for nin

that is also 1 year old and doesn't include the NIN tank nerf, which helps w/ the SATA idiots out there who won't line up right. (I have thf friends, I hear all about it )

Well, I guess I'll add a little something about thf/mnk. Just by eyeing damage in a krt pt....my elf thf75/mnk37 seemed to do approximately the same dmg as a lv 71 elf mnk both hit-per hit and WS. TP gain was similar as well. lv 75 mnk obviously blew both of us out of the water though =P still made 5-6k an hour despite not having 3 75 mnks <.>
I'm a 61 THF/WAR and proud of it. If you know how to pull well, you don't need utsusemi at all (depending on how fast the mobs run). Once hate's off you after the pull the mob never looks at you again. Berserk has a massive impact on knife damage and SATA on high def mobs if you parse it out, although the difference doesn't seem that huge just looking at it. Overall I find myself beating out WAR/NINs for damage in some of my groups. It really impresses me when I pull that off.
The big misconception about THF/NIN that I see many people make is that they believe Dual Wield's haste effect will improve their TP gain. It won't. Dual Wield reduces your base delay, and your TP/hit goes down as well. This is not true of the haste spell, but dual wield has this impact. Double Attack, however, gives you free attacks at your normal delay. Therefore in a statistical sense, I gain 10% more TP than a THF/NIN with equal accuracy in a given period of time. My DoT suffers by maybe 15% (after level 50 /NIN gets DW2) before Berserk's effects are included, but berserk easily makes up for it once it's active.
IMO THF/WAR is the way to go unless you have to pull mobs that run insanely fast >.> In that case, Utsusemi is a godsend and I'd toss out Berserk for it any day. That's just a whole different story though.
If you want to just go have fun tho.... THF/MNK all the way. I just got Shiva's claws and I'm looking forward to levelling up to use them on something. ^^ I can't say just how much I enjoy making 70+ thieves' eyes bug out when my SATA Raging Fists totally owns their SATA Dancing Edge/Sharkbite on skeletons. I might hit for crap, but when that TP comes in and SATA's ready... Oh, that's just a sight to see. Too bad we can't unlock Howling Fist. =(

You are correct, sort of. The point here most people miss is that if you choose your weapons wisely, you DO improve your TP gain. It's due to the 5% lowest delay cap, so once you have a combined delay on your weapons of below 400, you'll still get that base 5% each hit, as opposed to 3% or 4% like it should be. Of course, if you're running around with 2 Harpes on this wont make a bit of difference, and your analysis is correct. Just thought I'd point that out.

Thank you for that Ibroyles. I was basing it on 2 daggers of equal delay, but I didn't know that a lower delay dagger would cut out some delay while cutting down the penalty on dual wield TP gain. I can finally see how a hornetneedle could be somewhat beneficial. For DoT it plainly sucks but if you're obsessed with TP, then it makes a lot of sense. As a THF/WAR it really only makes sense to use the highest damage dagger you can find (to put Berserk's effects to use), though, so my analysis is still fairly accurate under these conditions I guess.
I am 75 thief, depeneding on what your using subjobs for, MNK and RNG are more for fun this lvl. WAR can get ok for exp but for fast exp NIN is better on weapons. WAR is good for nm camps. SAM is a sj that is overlooked, At kirin or gods or Ground HNM camps when you shouldnt be TPing or cant TP on the mobs, sam will help u to be part of the fight with skillchain options wihtout giving the monster much tp.
