WOOOOT! SUCK IT GILFINDER II! "increases the dex bonus" - I'm guessing this means that TA is less likely to miss when used by itself?

And as for the castle oz coffers...considering I was like 1/12 on astral rings, I think I'll let that slide.
      You know I'm right.

But Trick Attack doesn't even benefit from DEX. I wonder if they simply meant a damage bonus or perhaps an AGI bonus.

I'm guessing now TA will get a damage bonus based on dex and agi. This way thfs will may have an edge over drk/thfs in damage.
Nothing to see here people, let's keep the line moving >.>

Wow, this board has been down for a while...

            To summarize my findings...
            Assassin Rocks!

            *ahem*

The Assassin job trait (thf60) only added two things:
            • Made TA 100% accurate with a pt member in between.
            • Made TA a critical hit.
Thus, it doesn't boost overall potential damage, but is VERY useful to a smart thief.

            Post-patch SATA =~ Pre-patch SATA
            Post-patch TA >>>>> Pre-patch TA

Thieves are now less dependent on the party for positioning (YES!) and can be much more efficient, provided they're skilled enough to juggle cooldowns (YES!).

As for support, I observed this last night fighting Decorative Weapons in Ru'Avitau. It was very refreshing and allowed us easily to hit 5k/hr while joking around (completely stress-free chain5s). I think we can hit 6k/hr with no problems next time (war70, mnk70, thf70, drg71, brd70, whm70).

            More tidbits:

Assassin DOES NOT boost overall potential damage, but increases flexibility.

However, Assassin let's you come VERY close to the limit; something that was nigh impossible before.

TA still seems to be entirely agi-based (I believe the dex statement was a mistake).

The limiting issue before was turning the mob perfectly / waiting on SC partners / SC overkill.

Now a thief actually has choices (sorry if this scares people):
            • Stack SATA for init or more SC damage
            • Solo SA / TA for damage / hate placement, saving TP without overkilling the mob
            • ATA+WS on the tank if the mob doesn't turn, not wasting SA, and able to plant SA immediately after
            • Avoid the need for a trick partner entirely (not recommended in a good pt)
            • Juggle cooldowns more effectively for xp chains (incredibly important)

Just adding some stuff -- used to be, thieves were kind of a pain in the arse for a tank if there was no first voke or high damage hate stealer in the group (my set party is like that, with me, pld, and bst for melee...only T pets can steal the hate, really, and it's too jumpy then).

Now, instead of trying to murder the bst every fight (fuidama onto him) I can split up sata on non-renkei mobs, and I can PRECHARGE now, something that wasn't advisable with my setup before because it would use too much whm mp to cure the bst. But now, I can precharge trick only, land on pld, swing around, land an sa, then swing back around and land another ta. Pld gets hate as if an old regular fuidama was landed on him, and I do 50% more damage than I used to because I don't have to hold back.

So, in a way, for these types of parties it was an indirect damage boost.

You know this new job trait makes me think about THF/SAM. If TA is now the same as SATA was b4 then you could use TAWS to secure hate on tank...then meditate and be ready to SAWS for SC. I think that would boost your dmg a fair bit.

                Just a thought...

TA+ws is not the same damage as SATA+ws.

It is the same damage as SA+ws, which is about 100-300 damage LESS than SATA+ws.

Note: I'm doing exactly the same damage as pre-patch with SATA+ws, a little less because of food change.

I noticed TA+Multi hit WS = All hits of WS connect. Also, I noticed that it /may/ turn all hits of the WS into crits, but this I can not confirm yet. (In the past sneak atack did this, even with /thf...till they nerfed it)

Someone told me that Assassin triples the effectivness of SA and TA. From reading the above, I'd only assume that that isn't true. Assassin still confuses me though. Is it only effective for TA? Does it increase damage? Is it really the great ability THF needed to be a usable job past lv 60? Oh, and seeing it was brought up before. Does THF/SAM make a horrible comination?

It makes TA a garunteed crit as long as you are behind someone which does increase damage a bit but i dont think its some awesome JA.
