  • Is Chains of Promathia worth it for a level 25 Thief?

Hey, I know this isn't really the right place to ask this, but I respect the people on the Thief board, and some of the questions have to do with Thief, so I thought I could ask it here.

Anyway, I'm thinking about getting CoP, but I'm not quite sure yet. My brother and I always play together, so if I were to buy the expansion it would cost me $60 (one PS2 version and one PC version). Needless to say, I'm not exactly eager to spend $60 on something I have already spent tons of money on. And if there's not really anything I could do with the expansion, there's no way I want to spend that money. So I thought I should ask a few questions first, then decide if I want it or not.

    1) How much could a level 30 Thief and a level 30 Warrior do in the expansion? (I'm not level 30 yet, but it's close enough that I will buy the expansion if there's something cool to do at that level). Are any of the new areas low enough that we (the thief and warrior) could go around exploring and taking Easy Prey monsters?

    2) Are there any items we can get in the new areas that can be used for low level trade skills? (Say around level 20 or 30 for the trade skills)

    3) Are there any good weapons/armor/whatnot that we would be able to get/buy/make in the expansion. (I know we can buy most of them at the AH right now, but we'd rather buy them from a shop)

    4) Are there any cool things a level 30 Thief could do in the new areas? Like steal something good from a monster, or pick a chest or something?

    5) and the last question. I've heard there is a bunch of level capped stuff in the expansion, is this true? And what level is it capped to? I know a bunch of good people in game that I can't party with, because they are too high a level. I would love it if I could party with them sometime.

Thanks for any replies. I'll be happy to buy the expansion if it will make the game more fun for my brother and I, but I'm not going to get it if it won't change anything for us.

    1. As far as I know, some areas are suitable for lower level parties, but I don't have CoP yet, so I can't say for sure.

    2. Many new recipes were added with CoP. Some of them low level stuff I would imagine.

    3. Why would you want to buy weapons/armor from an NPC shop? It's always cheaper at the AH. I think most of the new equipment is drop and craft only.

    4. The same cool things you can do in existing areas.

    5. There is the new "Emptiness", which appears to be an alternate dimension or something. It is capped at L30 as far as I know.

    Warrior L30, Dragoon L45+, Thief L70+, Paladin L25+, Monk L15+, Ninja L35+ , Ranger 40+

Cool =) We'll be level 30 soon, so it will be awesome to be able to do the level capped stuff. I've been wanting to party with a few high level people I know, so this looks to be the perfect chance =)

About number 3, we just find it more fun to try to get things on our own. We try to make things most of the time, but buying them at an NPC shop is okay too. If we can't get it either of those ways, we try to find someone that will trade for it (or buy it out of their bazaar). I know it's strange =l But we find it more fun that way. We have yet to buy anything at the AH actually. (Funny thing is, we have almost everything we could need, and they were almost all quite a bit cheeper than the AH. I got Silence Bahgnaks for a thousand under the AH price (I think), a Power Crossbow for 1 gil, and so on. I have yet to pay more than a few hundred of AH price for anything, and have decent equipment and tons of gil.)

Anyway, that's beside the point =P Thanks for the reply. I'm going to ask a few people I know in game what they think about the expansion, and wait for a few more replies to this topic. But I think I'll probably get it =) I like the idea of level capped stuff.
