  • SATA damage at my level

I'm a level 33 THF/NIN (sub fully leveled). I was wondering what my damage output with SATA+WS should be. I had to PT in Yhaotor today so I've really only gotten to test it on enemies in Yhaotor.

To IT gob smithys I would do about 250-330 damage with SATA+VB.

On T-VT mandys I would do about 350-430.

Is this normal damage for someone around my level? Here's my equipment if you want to make any suggestions. And yes, I know I need emp hairpin and leaping boots...I've camped lizzy about 10 hours now and nothing and I haven't really tried the hairpin yet, I wanna get to 40 before I try that.

    Main: Windurstian Dagger
Sub: Strider Sword (Would Mithran be better? Gotta save up for it if it is =/)
    Ranged: Chakram

    Back: Wolf Mantle +1
Ear: 2x Beetle Earring (Soon to be drone)
Ring: 2x Balance Ring (Soon to be the +3 DEX rings)
    Neck: Spike Necklace
    Legs: Bastokian Subligar

Everything else is the level 30 Merc. equipment.

Is there anything else that would be good for me that isn't something really expensive like the Leaping Boots?

PS: I'm a hume. Damn SE for not having male mithra...

You should be doing 400+. I would use a mithran scimitar until 42 (change it for calveleys dagger) and nomad mantle until 60 or something around that. You could also use the hume RSE gloves maybe forever and a federation knife until 40.

The mithran scimitar is only marginally better.
You might also want to look into Garrison Hose. I would buy those just to get rid of those subligars (urgh!). They have +1 str and +1 dex.

You think the mithkabobs will be making much difference? Yes, I'm not buying those (I always forget when I'm in town). I'll make sure to buy some when I get on next time if you think they'll boost my damage up into the high 300 to low 400 range. Hopefully someone in my LS can give me a discount on mithkabobs cuz I'm saving up money so that I can buy the drone earrings and +3 DEX rings (I got enough if I sell my balance rings)...leveling NIN to 25 exhausted my gil.

I've tried to do the RSE quest for the gloves (again, don't have enough to spend like 25k right now) but found out I didn't have enough fame. >_< Any suggestions on easy fame in Jeuno? I tried doing a quest I thought were easy in Jeuno and found out I didn't even have enough fame to do that one! I've done a couple but obviously not enough. Can you get the fabric even without the quest so that can go ahead and get the fabric and wait until I have enough fame?

Try the "only the best" quest in Selbina, trading boyhada moss to the old guy outside wavers guild.

I’m sure that if you open the chest with out the quest you will get 3k worth items, besides that you will spoil the spawn time for the next chest.

Kabobs and Mithran scimitar make a difference; just give it a try if you don’t like it just sell it back.

                Little update on my progress:

I bought some Meat Mithkabobs and got a party in the Citadel yesterday. I didn't get to experiment much because some asshole trainers. One of them was like 15 sets of bats (including citadel), 5 beetles, and a fallen skeleton thing.

To the lower level Siege bats I did about 380 with SATA+VB. To the tougher ones I did about 330.

Why should I get this piece of crap Nomad Mantle? It's like 40k for what? 2 DEF, +1 AGL, and +3 Evasion? And of course I'm not gonna pay 300k for +2 AGL Nomad Mantle +1. I'd rather save my 40k for two drone earrings that'll give me like 4 times more AGL.

...because its the only mantle until level 56 that gives dex or agility, and THAT mantle costs 36,000 CPs if you aren't from bastok.

And you want the +3 AGI earrings. the +2's just look very low-rent.
                  You know I'm right.

I said 4 times more but obviously I meant Drone Earrings because I actually said the name, just got the ammount of AGL wrong.

How much does the Federation Mantle (I'm assuming that's the one you said cost 36k CP since Odepa commented on it) cost if I'm bastokian?

But like I said...there's better ways to spend 40k before level 56 than on +1 AGL. Nomad Mantle will be the last thing I ever buy if I do buy it.

I actually want to add to this since it seems more experienced thfs are answering this post.

                        Hope I don't throw your post off topic here lufia22, if i do I apologize ; ;

I was recently farming in Beadeaux(sp?) and had the luck to come upon a dodge earring. I switch this out with one of my drone earrings(+3 agi) and noticed a significant difference in the amount i SATA for and as well my SATA+VB. I wasn't aware that agi affected these attacks in such a way. I'm not sure myself if it was simply the mobs i was xp on or what though.

Bones obviously i would hit less on, but i'm not sure what range i "should" be hitting on with these, as I have not had a thf+bones pt ever in all my game time. I was getting in the range of 140-180dmg on my SATA and broke 200-260 with VB added.
Crawlers, I was doing roughly 270-320dmg and i think i broke 400 once with VB. These figures just seem horrid to me for some reason.

When I was xping on bats in citadel, I was hitting over high 300's and low 400s with SATA alone, and this was with both +3agi earrings equiped.

I know some of these mobs have higher defense, but our rdm was dispelling all defenses coming up successfully, and it just seemed strange. I wasn't aware the mobs defense could buff it as much as to drop my dmg by this amount.

                        Current EQ:

                        Main: Dagger(forget the name lvl31 defense down+1)
                        Sub: Mithran Scimitar
Ranged: Long boomerang (i switch this out with crossbow sometimes for pulling on varried acid or venom bolts)
                        Head: Emporers hairpin
                        Neck: Spike Necklace(spiked?)
Ears: Drone earrings(X2)(trying dodge out as well)
                        Body: Merc. Captians
                        Hands: Hume RSE
                        Rings: Deft Rings(+3dex X2)
                        Back: Nomads Mantle
                        Waist: Merc. Captains belt
                        Legs: Merc. Captains (+3 eva)
                        Feet: Leaping Boots

                        Use Meat Chiefkabobs as well.

Bats are weak against piercing (they take 100% damage, while most mobs take 50-80% or something). All flying creatures take good damage from piercing (daggers, polearms and ranged).

Your equipment looks good and you seem to do just fine. I'd get some atk+ earrings to switch on when you're not doing fuidama for some extra damage on your normal swings. Just use an equip macro to switch between equipment sets.

Well I got back to citadel and I'm doing 410 damage on average to bats with SATAWS. I'm assuming it's because bats are weak to piercing correct? A normal SA on an IT Siege Bat does about 150-210 whereas a normal SA only did about 140 onto a T goblin. o_O Does that sound right?

Anyways...I plan on doing some major farming and/or manipulation of the market (i.e. NIN scrolls in Jeuno I can buy at tenshodo for 1700 and sell for 4000). Here's is the order I'm going to buy my equipment, tell me if something should take priority over the other:

x2 Drone Earrings (about 26k all together) > x2 Deft Rings (according to the jeuno price, about 106k all together) > Mithran Scimitar (40-60k) > Nomad Mantle (30-40k)

That's a lot of money I need to farm. I already have 60-69k (can't remember exactly how much). I wish I had warp because then I'd head out to Moriphataud Mountains (hate spelling it) each time. I think I'll stick with Konchstat/Dunes or Giddeus for now. Any recommendations? I might be able to get my skill in smithing up to 7-10 on the crystals that I've farmed, but I doubt that'd it would make me much money at that level. Also might try camping lizzy YET AGAIN! I haven't even claimed the bugger yet...only got extremely close once and probably could have had it if I knew Charm acted like provoke at the time.
