I was finally finishing off level 59 last night in a party with a warrior and drk. I gotta say the party wanted to boot me so bad because they were all level 60 already and well, heres the simple truth:
Warrior hits for 85. (dual wield war/nin)
Warrior hits for 79.
Warrior readies Rampage!
Warrior's Rampage hits Deionycus for 689 damage!
DarkKnight hits for 220 (drk/war with Soul Eater on, 150 without)
DarkKnight readies Guillotine!
DarkKnight's Guillotine hits Deionycus for 860 damage!
Thief hits for 19.
Thief hits for 20.
Thief uses sneak attack
Thief uses trick attack
Thief readies Viper Bite!
Thief's Viper Bite hits Deionysus for 560 damage!
All through the game I've been happy with damage output. Thieves hits are never great but they've at least been somewhat on the same page. Thieves damage has always been mostly burst damage from the sneak/trick/ws. I'm really kind of freaked out when other jobs are massively outdamaging us in both regular hits (at least 4x more damage than us), and just using their WS without even sneak attack (50% stronger than us).
I'm sure it will be a somewhat more fair comparison when I get Dancing Edge... but look at it this way, even if I *double* my fuidama damage, which I won't, I'll still be behind other damage dealers.
Help, I'm scared. Main problem is the extremely low damage for daggers... if thieves could use decently damaging weapons they'd keep up a bit more. For god sakes a level 40 sword has higher damage than our level 75 weapon, with only 60 more delay.
Don't try and tell me its all in the gear, because I have the gear

Darksteel Kukri +1
Corsairs Knife offhand
Lust Knife (sometimes, thinking about retiring this)
Emperor's Pin
Black Cotahardie
AF hands, legs
RSE feet (I prefer +3 str since I'm Mithra)
+3 dex rings
+3 agi earrings
and so on.
Saving for sniper rings for when I get dancing edge, but that's not a factor now. Really starting to feel "barely tolerated" by parties at 60+ when they'd rather have a drk to do my job and they are much more common.
I just hope dancing edge at least puts me in the same catagory for damage as them, because I ain't gonna get invited for my hits, my treasure hunter, or my evasion. Just gotta mention, note on evasion... main tank died, and I tanked a VT add the entire battle without being hit a single time. The mob would hit about 25% of the time, but Utsusemi would block those. By the time my images were gone I'd recast with plenty of time to spare.
Oh, and if you're levelling downstairs in Kuftal, the NM dino named "Yowie" is appropriately named. Party saw he was level 65 and figure we could take him at level 61. So I pulled him, first thing he does to me is double attack for 330 damage EACH. The warrior starts tanking him and does better, until Yowie critical hits twice for 250 damage each, and uses a special for another 500, and the warrior goes down in 2 seconds flat. OUCH!
