I recently picked up thief job. Just have a few questions. As far as stealing, is there anyway to improve results? (NOT MISS!)

Pertaining only to level 30,(just waiting for BST), could i get some pro cons for sub classes? /mnk, /rmg, pretty much why they suck so much compared to /war/. Also with /mnk, is hand-to-hand perfered?

Can i get my Sandy signet in Bastok?

What ranged weapon type is perferred for thief? (Pros Cons)

Well, I thank you in advance, hope i gave somebody thats bored something to do. Thanks!

There is no direct way to improve stealing results, besides wearing +1 steal gear, but that won't be coming along your way unless you have 300k for a rabbit charm, or level up to your AF armor, which has +steal on every peice.

As for subjobs, below level 20, it doesn't really matter...if you want to improve damage output then you can sub RNG and do more ranged than usual, or if you want to sub war, that is most common. However at 20, I personally would highly recommend subbing ninja, because then you get duel wield, and I just love duel wield...*drool*...

As for ranged weapons, most of the time you see THF's using a boomerang, or later on Chakram's (the little circle throwing discs similar to a boomerang, usable by THF and NIN). The occasional bow comes in handy when pulling, but unless your subbing RNG I would just recommend using a boomerang of any type.

Up until level 33, when THF get's viper bite, you can basically use any type of 1 handed weapon....Sword is good for WS's because you get fast blade early and it's good until about 30's, hand-to-hand I've heard increased dmg output, but haven't bothered using this for a while, but I wouldn't bother using a dagger until level 30 or so when your close to getting viper bite and trick attack, otherwise it's damage is crappy.

If you are taking my advice at 20 and going THF/NIN, use a sword in main hand, and dagger in sub hand, this way you can still use fast blade and other sword WS's, and your dagger will be up to date when it's time for viper bite.

Not sure about the signet thing...never had to ask that question before. (I was definately bored and this gave me a good 5 minutes of not staring at my WoW download)

thank you for your information, it much appreciated. However, im still a little hazy on some information.

I am only going to be playing a thief to level 30... What would be the best regurlar subjob to thirty?(meaning i dont have any advanced jobs). I mainly am interested in RMG, or MNK, and how they supposedly pale in comparison to warrior.

Oh, by the way that sucks about the stealing, lol.... Guess i'll just adjust to missing, should be easy since im also trying to incorporate ranged into my gameplay, lol.

      Give me info!

If you are getting THF to 30 so you can GET advanced jobs....then i would recommend either subbing WAR and using a sword until that time, or subbig MNK And using fists.

Contrary to popular belief, THF's actually do decent dmg with hand to hand weapons in the mid 20s.

Anyways, if you want a sword use war sub, if you want claws use mnk sub, its really up to you, most parties before level 30 are pretty slack so...they won't be too picky about anything.

personally i think monk is a better sub then warrior till 30.

three words, Boost + Sneak Attack = roxor damage.

you dont really need to worry about defence as youll be behind the mob most of the time and not taking damage. you will however get hate if you pull off a good SA but if you have a good tank you wont get hit more then twice usually.

with monk you get martial arts, making your H2H attacks faster. and H2H is a good weapon to use pre 30 thief.

monk is more suited to blend better with Thief pre 30 then warrior imho. the pros outweigh the cons. but thats just my 2 gil, i could be wrong.

I agree. Combo seems to usually do more damage than Fast Blade and you get Boost. With a war sub you don't get any attack improving traits/abilities until L30.

            Warrior L30, Dragoon L45+, Thief L70+, Paladin L25+, Monk L15+, Ninja L35+ , Ranger 40+

I don't know about this, haven't tried it. But with SA + Fastblade at level 27 (just tried last night) did average 180-200 damage, and with skillchain usually an added 80-100 damage. This was against IT Mandragoras in Kazham. Can anybody post similar stats with hand-to-hand (SA + combo)?

edit: Forgot to add. Personally, both H2H and Sword start really sucking skill wise at this level. My miss rate with sword is almost unbearable (my gear is not gimped, I have much +DEX and +ACC). I think it's something like 10 skill level difference from dagger. I personally can't wait until level 33 to get viber bite, without the gimped TP gain.
