So far I'm lvl 23 thief... Just wondering what level i won't have to wear a boring doublet, I know at 45 I get something good, but is there anything before that?

Level 23 - Doublet
Level 30 - Mercenary Captain's Doublet (identical model as Doublet)
Level 45 - Brigandine
Level 59 - Black Coteharde
Level 69 - Blue Coteharde
5 outfits (4 skins) in 52 levels. Thieves are all about the variety, I tell you. Granted, you may use RSE/AF for variety.
The problem (is it a problem?) is that unlike most classes, we thieves don't have to keep updating our gear. There's a clear "best" item for each slot, and most of them are low-level.
Weapons keep updating (but with /nin, you already do a hand-me-down with your last one)
ranged - long boomerang 33+, maybe the lightning bow at 55.
Head - emp hairpin. as good as it gets at 24.
Feet - leaping/winged boots as good as it gets at 7/21 (24? whatever)
Gloves - Battle Gloves 14+, as good as they get through AF at 52...
Pants - *shrug* No thiefy pants before AF (unless you're an elf). I'm still using level 25 pants that add attack.
Neck - Spike Necklace. as good as it gets at 21.
Earrings - Ronin Earring (if you're /nin) - level 30. Wing earring(s) - 36. as good as they get.
Rings - Balance rings at 14, maybe deft rings at 36, another bump at 54...
Back - Nomad Mantle - level 24. lasts you through level 55....
Belts change a bit. warrior belt +1, survival belt, life belt, royal knight's belt. You know I'm right.

Regarding Leg Armor
Actually, as of only a couple weeks ago, there are pants to wear until AF:
Garrison Hose
Lv.21 DEF:9 STR+1 DEX+1
All Jobs
Now, they're not exactly easy to get, or cheap, but they are the best! I was lucky enough to get a pair when my LS did Garrison a little while ago, and every Thief who checks my gear asks me where I got them!
But yeah, as a thief, you're biggest concern is getting all the DEX you can, so unfortunatly, it'll be a Mercenary Captain's boring doublet (looks the same as Lv.11 and Lv.23 doublets) at Lv.30 all the way until Brigandine at Lv.45 (The checkerboard armor you always see). On the plus side, you'll have all that time to farm and save money so you can get Brigandine +1 which is a very nice piece that will last you another good while. (Better than AF for exp groups)
Side Note: I don't know that I'll ever get it, but my sights are set on a scorpion harness...

ooooooh...garrison hose. I hadn't heard of those. Too bad I'm 1 level away from my af pants =/. What do they look like?
There's actually a decent amount of new useful stuff. I just found out about:
Ronin Earring (Rare)
Latent Effect: +4 Agi
level 30. All Classes
Turns out the latent effect is triggered by being a /nin. Fascenating. I just got one on fairy a couple days ago...it was 100k, and rising fast. I'd reccomend picking one up soon if you are going to get one...You know I'm right.

The Garrison Hose look like plain green leggings. Pretty boring and they don't match my brig armor very well, but...Stats before looks, right? ^^
About the earring, yeah, that's a great piece, especially for me since I sub NIN. I might just try the new BCNM30 for one, not sure about that though. Maybe I'll just buy one.

And yeah, I thought about just earning the genin earring. It's about time all my mage friends paid me back for passing on erase and phalanx...but I haven't done any of the 30's yet, it usually takes a run or two to get your bearings, and there's a TON of potential swag to collect from bcnm30, and you only get 3 at a time. =/You know I'm right.

It's funny you should mention that. It occurred to me last night that, no matter what type of leg armor they wear, Mithra always seem to have their legs showing (Not always, but a lot of the time).
I'm not sure why that is, though it's kind of funny to me. I'll see if I can get a couple shots of an LS mate of mine wearing the hose and then post them up. ^^
PS- Sorry for the thread hijack.
