Taru thf equip cosideration

I've started playing thf recently and got to lvl 24. Then i start asking people about equipment and a lot of diff answer came.

K. for a taru .. currently i'm a 24thf/12nin. so my dex and agi are pretty much higher than rest of the stats.. Some guys told me to ignore dex and agi for my case due to my race and subjob and concentrate stats like STR and ATK. Others say dun bother about STR and ATK, thf need AGI and DEX instead and more helps.

Coz right now i've a neck piece 3agi 3dex and i got another one which gives def2 5ATk..

From my view 5atk=10str and with 2 def that's wow.. on the other hand due to some advice given from some melee.. they say using 3agi 3dex is better for me..

I am so confused...dex helps in SA they say... ok i understand 2dex= 1 accuracy... so when they say helps.. does itmean i'll hit % is better and thus more damage?

and also 2str=1atk.... so if i choose a equip.. either 2str or 1atk will have the same effect?

Sorry for so many question but i'm confused over melee stuff now hehehe always been a whm.

Do you constantly hit for 0 damage? If so, equip the +ATK. Do you miss a lot? If so, equip to +DEX.

Once you hit 30, deffinatly go with the +DEX. At 30, THF is definded as a hate-placer, so doing as much damage in that one hit is more important than your other hits.

However, you also don't want to constantly hit for 0, as you need TP gain to get off your WS.

The only thing that most thieves use (me, a taru thf included) is spike necklace, 3 str, 3 dex - 6 mnd

At lv 20'ish, you won't notice much improvement in damage when you equip a bunch of dex stuff. Ignore those small swords. They are very very crappy.

Basically, until lv 33 when you get viper bite, I'd say stick to attack gear and or str. Our RSE is pretty good. Vs mandy in kazam, I just use RSE cause I hardly miss even without battle gloves.

lv 36 taru thf/nin right now and my set up is:

Federation Kurki
Mithran scimitar
Long boomerang
Merc Capt. Head
Spike Necklace (if I had 3 dex 3 agi, I'd take that thing)
Drong earrings x2, I also carry beetle earrings +1 in case I hit for zero

Merc capt body,
taru RSE hands,
balance ring x2
Nomad's Mantle
Merc Capt belt
Taru RSE pants
Taru RSE boots

and with meat mithrakobos I hit my SAnTA to around 500 on bats in garliage. A poorly equipped mithra hits for around 400 in the same area.

I am a taru theif currently at 50 thief/20 nin. I only focused on dex + agility throught out my lvls so far. Thief will low damage on normal attacks but SATA is where you shine so I would suggest adding dex+agi equipment. Nothing beats seing damage for 300-500 on an IT mob.

Dont take my word, try and see how things works both ways.

DEX boost the damage of Sneak Attack significantly, while AGI boosts the damage for Trick Attack, as well as their normal bonus attributes such as + to accuracy and evasion. (sorry, perhaps I'm restating the obvious here but I wanted to make sure it was clear). pre-30 I would suggest good +ATK and +DEX gear... AGI is nice too, it just doesn't have the advantages it has post 30 when you start using fuidama (sneak attack + trick attack).
Taru THFs really aren't at that much of a disadvantage (like taru tanks) as you have probably noticed. As with any non-optimal job/race combo, simply keep your gear fairly good and buy the right food and you will be good to go.

I beleive the +3 dex +3 agi is the "Rabbit Charm" dropped by Jaggedy Eared Jack in West Raunfaur, and it sells for 300k on lashkim O_o

I think Rabbit Charm is only +1dex +1agi (edit: and +1steal ).

Im not aware of any neck piece that is +3DEX+3AGI... however he is correct Rabbit Charm is only +1 to those stat. One of the best item to get for neck is

STR+3 DEX+3 MND-6
Lv. 21 All jobs

Spiked necklace is really a good investment for any thief at lv 21. It will be the last neck piece that you will have to obtain for at least the next 25 levels.

With my THF i focus on dex/agi, and just carry my mithkabobs around with me wherever i go. before 30 i think it's better to put more emphasis on str but once you get sneak and trick buy some merc captain gear. i chose to use RSE pants cause you dont need 3 evasion in exp parties.
this is my equipment at 46:
Main: AF1
Secondary: Mithran Scimitar
Ranged: Long Boomerang
Head: Merc Captain(saving for emp hairpin)
Neck: Spike Neckless
Gloves:Merc Captain or Battle Gloves
Body: Brigadine
Back: Wolf Mantle+1
Waist: Merc Captain
Feet: Merc Captain(saving for leaping)
Earrings: 2x Drone Earring
Rings: 2x Amnetrine(sp? 2 dex. rich people should get deft rings)
all and all i have like +5 str, +16 dex and +13 agi.

Kopitiam, Sneak Attack hits for 100% of the time provided that you are behind the mob. there is simply a damage multiplier on sneak attack which is based, largely, on DEX. It seems to me that str is not as important as dex even with a taru. so my advice is pile on dex/agi and get str with any equip slots that dont have dex or agi.

I suggest as you hit the higher levels 50+ get a dagger that has a high damage stat, and offset it with all dex/agi equips.

I have +25DEX/+25AGI with +15 ATK and +10ACC (amemit+1 and lifebelt)

And my dagger is Darksteel kukri+1 / Garuda's Dagger
And will remain that way until I get a Stun kukri+1

AFter some lvl and time this is my new gear... i'm not sure whether the 2 sniper are worth it though coz pre 40 i miss a lot and hence TP hard to get to 100 per round.

I used to substitture 2 sniper with 2 +3 dex ring though.

Ohter than the nomad mantle +2agi for back slot (saing for it still)... is there something i lack or not good enough. I choose the ACC dagger though and not those that boost agi or dex, cept for my AF dagger, wonder if it's a better choice... i notice my STR drops a lot due to my gear shifted towards agi and dex and acc and i think it's bad for a taru?

SO for a taru which order is important for post 40-50 perhaps?

Thks for replying that dex > agi for sata damage?? i thought dex for SA and agi for TA though used together.. dex is preferred for gear than AGi if given a choice?

Those priorities are pretty straight. As you've noticed though it is essential to have ACC at higher levels so you can gain TP, you might think about making a macro that will switch your equips between say ACC+ATKgear(building TP)/DEX+AGIgear(for SATA+WS). SATA is always gauranteed hit(if lined up proper) so you won't need ACC for that. Also, DEX is mostly preferred over AGI, because you get a higher increased damage ratio with DEX:SA as opposed to AGI:TA.
