  • Good Trick Attack Strategy?

Assuming the party has a main tank and secondary tank.

Sec. tank goes and pulls. When mob gets to us, the main tank would position himself behind mob and I would stand behind him. I would do sneak + trick and get aggro on main tank. Mage(s) would then be free to heal the sec. tank and main tank. When the main tanks had enough, do sneak + trick w/ the sec. tank.
Finding people organized to do this might be harder.

Is very hard if not impossible to get them lined up and working.
Yesterday a guy in my PT left because I was being "too bossy"... I'm so sick of the ignorant people, that made me think about quitting THF (44 atm).

that's what i wondered about.. even at my level, where i only need to worry about sneak attack, it takes forever till people understand that i NEED to stand BEHIND the monster to do my damage, which requires a tank, that doesnt move around and knows somewhat when to provoke, so i can position myself quickly (and the other WARs stay away from their provoking if it's not an emergency T_T)

The method you are talking about is wonderful if you can get it to work. I was in a pt almost a week ago where the puller new exactly what to do regarding what you are talking about and the PLD was willing to listen and learn how to position himself. Needless to say I was able to get off yokos at the beginning of every fight which brought hate directly to the PLD. The puller pulled a little farther than the PLD was standing, the enemy had his back turned to the PLD and I let loose. At this time the mages can not cast anything like you are saying or the enemy immediatly goes towards them. Thankfully one of the mages was a JP player who knew what he was doing and the other just understood not to cast anything right away.

The pt I was in the next day was so not fortunate to listen to me. The PLD would not stand in one spot, the puller would not pull to where I wanted, the mages let loose soon as the enemy came, and I was seen as being bossy and "not-having-fun." Actually, most pts I'm in don't listen to what I'm saying regarding positioning, casting, and just letting me get off my yoko. There are a few that listen though and it's really just chance you're going to land in one that does.
Do you really believe in anything besides the weight of your guns?

ppl just DO not know/want to understand a THF that is just it. You can try to tell them a mil times they just do not want to understand it or care bout it. The only ppl that understand THF are the ppl that have played it themselfs. I have been thinking bout just saying "fuck" THF after mine is level 51 right now, I try and try to get ppl to understand what my job is but "they dont care".

Back on topic yes I have used this method, just like you was saying its very hard to find ppl to understand it and want to take the time out to do it. If you can get a PT to do it its nothing but gold. it feels so awesome when you see bout 400+ dmg pop up an then the hate goes right on the PLD.

You think you're the best, but there is always someone better.

First of all, I'd like to thank THFs for letting PLDs be of use in a PT with a blink tanking NIN. :spin:

I was recently priveleged to PT with a Nin, Thf, Rng, Rdm, and Whm. ^^

            Our strategy:
            - Rng would pull mob into range, and I would Provoke while facing directly across from the Nin.
            - Having Pld, buys time for Thf to setup Viper-Fuidama Renkei with other team members while saving the whm from needing to cure the 2ndary tank and pull aggro.
            - Once fuidama is set over Nin, I just sit there whacking the mob and acting as a backup healer. ('~'

            Bonuses to our setup:
            - Blink tank Nin saves ALOT of mana
            - Pld 2ndary tank keeps group from panicking while fuidama is being setup

I would recommend this setup for anyone lucky enough to find a wealthy Nin for their PT.

In my group, I am always the puller.

I go out find a mob, hit sneak/trick, wait till timer around 40 seconds, pull the mob, 2nd tank provoke, PLD behind mob; I enter combat mode, agro transfer to PLD. PLD provoke, cast flash...etc.

10-20 seconds later I can use sneak/trick on 2nd tank again and won't pull agro on him at all. Thief damage is pretty low if not use sneak/trick as much as possible.

Since ive gotten Trick ive been in maybe 10 different parties, not counting the ones for adv job quests, 2 of the parties would listen, the others didnt. The tanks moved around, provoked to make it face them, didnt go behind the monster, would actually MOVE THE MONSTER AWAY from me...

Thank god i found one party with a WAR tank and a NIN with Blink so the War could Prov off the NIN who used Blink before i used Trick. It helps to have people that know what to do -.-

Too many people think of the THF as a watered-down WAR just as RDMs are watered-down WHM,BLM, Melee combination. If the monster goes to one of the 3 Mages we had in the group i would Trick behind the WAR and get it back, these new players have to learn -.-

Getting tanks to participate with you is very hard. Well for me at least. I've been w/ a few parties since lv30 and none of the tanks would listen. They wouldn't line up. They would've stand still. What's the deal w/ tanks running around for no reason?
I was w/ a party that had another thief. There were 2 tanks: one PLD and one WAR. We asked them to take either side of the mob and to stay put. Never happened. Me and other THF decided to not depend on them anymore and just work together. He would do SA + TA on me and then we would switch positions and I'd do it on him. Sounds crazy, but it works and works well. I have Blink ninjitsu so I can take a few hits. The PLD would take the mob off us soon enough anyways. We would be able to pull off 2 SA+TA each every fight and do good damage. We did this the whole time we partied. It was great.
He was a ninja sub too, so once he gets Blink it would be even better. :D

I was doing Fui on the RDM last night (the party was 4 mages 2 melee so the RDM was the only viable option) and she said I hit for 6 and then do 195+ with fui, that makes sense. I thought that was funny, and she was very willing to take hits and do what I asked so it was nice

it sucks when people don't cooperate. I just try to get them to see it once. Tonight I was in a party that wouldn't cooperate. I finally got them lined up and ended the skillchain with a viper bite for 430 damage plus 250 for the skillchain damage. That had them listening really quick
