  • THF 15 for Treasure Hunter worth it ?

Is it worth leveling a THF to 15 for his "Treasure Hunter" Job Quality ? I was a WHM/SMN in beta and always had problems finding keys, rare items or even gil farming when I couldn't find a THF to help me.

I just need to know if the drop % is -way- better with the "Treasure Hunter" Quality. I would then only need to change my sub to THF whenever I am hunting for an item.

Treasure hunting can take hours, so I really need to know this before retail is out. :dead:

    Thanks.

sure get your thf to 15, hell if you have nothing else to do get your thf to 45 hehe for TH2 that should help out a lot.

You think you're the best, but there is always someone better.

It's great to have. I don't know how much they help with keys, but for daily farming resources, there's a huge difference between having treasure hunt1 and not having it.

I collect 12 lizard skins in 30 minutes with treasure hunt 1
I need 1 hour and a half for 12 skins without treasure hunt.

        TH 2

Anybody know about how long it will be before Squeenix raises the cap high enough to have Treasure Hunter 2 with a Thf sub? That means your main would have to be 90, th2= 45? If anybody has any speculations about this that would be great thanks

Yeah you would have to be 90 to use TH2..But it will be a few months before the cap reaches 90 ..I can assure you that.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but...

(First post, by the way, so be gentle)

I've got a MNK30/THF13 now (hit 30 last night in the ghost town that is Batallia Downs), and I'm about to go RNG when I get home tonight.

Now, in my early days of playing, when I was foolish and impressionable, a Japanese player whom I trusted said that Treasure Hunter does not increase the drop rate of Rare and Ex items.

Has this been confirmed one way or the other anywhere? And I'm not talking about "yeah leaping lizzy droped 3 leping boots in 3kills lol lol". I mean, do we definitively know one way or the other?

For reference, this guy also said that the Magicked Skull had a 4% drop rate off Ghouls.

Anyway, just curious. I'm probably going to level the THF to 15 regardless, but I'd like to know one way or another if Treasure Hunter is going to be incredibly cool or just cool.

Thanks in advance--you guys have already answered many of my questions before I knew to ask them.

Re: Sorry to bump an old thread, but...

Welcome, Hug. I'll try to answer your questions with my experience...

First of all, from what I have seen, TH does indeed increase droprate of rare and EX items. For example, when I farm in Windurst areas, I get the RARE/EX items *much* faster with THF than without (for example, smooth stones, 2leaf mandrag buds, etc). And if my experience isn't enough, it is generally agreed among high level players that TH and TH2 do affect RARE/EX drops.

Now for the other thing he claims... 4% droprate of skull from ghouls? This is so wrong it's not even funny. I've helped about 10 people get skulls in Gusgen mines (only 1 at a time, I do this when I'm bored). I can usually get a skull within 5 ghouls. One time I forgot to sub THF and I think it still took me around 7 ghouls. Also, the ghouls in gusgen drop skulls with less frequency than in Dunes... In dunes, I usually found a skull for 1 out of every 3 ghouls. There's no way it is a 4% drop, or I would have to fight over 20 ghouls for a skull.

Now, given that this statement is most likely incorrect, I question the validity of his TH claim as well. I'm sorry to say that I do not know *definitely*, but only from my experience, along with other players' experience. But that's what counts, isn't it?

              By the way...

It will never be 90, it stops at 75.

Holy crap thats lucky. There were two high level jap players helping out a group of 4 of us for skulls. After about 30ish, none had dropped, and they had to go. It was lame.

Finally got it when another jap player helped me about 3 days later. Took him about 10 kills.(none of these 3 had thf/ or /thf)

... my skull drop rate is unusally high in valk. It's more like 50% for me in valk when I hunt for skull in valk...

Anyways back to the topic. Yes getting thf to 15 will be very helpful in the future. Lvl 45 is sorta longshot because the amount of time required to go from 15-45 is many folds more than gteting your thf from 1-15. I've also noticed MANY MANY wars sub thf which i found extremely frustrating. All their thf subs were underleveled, and they sub for a FIVE minute ability called steal. If you're gonna sub thf for even something as simple as dex, at least level it to the point where it's not udnerlevled. In fact, I've made it a personal habit of mine to NOT invite any wars that sub thf unless their thf sub was not underleveled.

I sub Thief 15 with my RDM 61 when I go on key hunting or skill level up PTs. Since I'm helping, They cannot complain. I steal, drops increase, and everyone's happy.

Indeed, the gusgen ghouls don't drop skulls nearly as often as dunes ghouls... without a /thf, you are going to have a hard time.

If you have a high level assisting you, I suggest going to the *secret* NW beach in dunes (secret because it is not on the map). Most player know about this beach, but do not level there because it is mostly snippers, flies, pugils, etc, things that you fight around lvl 15-18. But the path to the beach is guarded by several goblins (leechers, gamblers, etc) that a level 15 party definitely cannot defeat. If your high level player goes there at night time, there are always a couple ghouls (I do this sometimes and just let my friend sit near Selbina). The ghouls in dunes definitely have a higher skull droprate. Hope this helps someone.
