Sure, why not? Since all of Dynamis takes place inside his mind, in a sense, Diabolos is *ten* entire zones.

All of the Alzadaal Undersea Ruins, all Salvage areas and Nyzul Isle are inside Alexander, too, but that doesn't make it unreasonable that he could be an avatar in the future.

What you summon is a *manifestation* of the avatar, not the avatar itself; that's why there can be more than one at a time. There's no reason this wouldn't work for Bahamut or Atomos or Alexander just the same as it works for Diabolos or Fenrir.

There isn't any restriction on summoning Fenrir to help your friend defeat Fenrir, which is at least as dubious from a lore perspective, because gameplay takes priority.

IIRC, at least as many people asked for Geomancer and Magic Knight, neither of which we got; on the other hand, nobody asked for Puppetmaster or Scholar (although lots of people like them now that we have them); and while there were some people who wanted a pirate job, what they were asking for had very little resemblance to Corsair.

So I wouldn't be too quick to credit the fans for the two jobs we both asked for *and* got (BLU and DNC) - the devs were probably going to make some jobs anyway. Fans asked for five jobs and SE created five jobs, but only two of them clearly match up (and even then, FFXI BLU is far more melee oriented than any previous game in which blue mage was mostly about the magic).

And, of course, if fanservice guided SE's decision of what avatars to get we'd be getting Bahamut and Phoenix.

Actually, this is entirely a community-enforced perspective. Every Blue Mage there was back then practically conspired to make sure the job's magical potential was kept under wraps, a good chunk of them more likely than not disgruntled Red Mages not wanting a repeat of what happened to the original Magic Knight of the game.

"Hey, you're a Blue Mage, are you guys good at healing?" "Umm . . . NO! Can't do that! Gimp healers we are! <.<" Though this desire to escape what had seemed to be an otherwise inescapable trap of main-healing that was experienced on Red Mage, they, interestingly enough, helped give rise to the thoughtless argument that every "melee RDM" should go play BLU, but we have been over (and revoked) that argument quite a few times already, so we know how that went.

Well, either way, especially considering what you just said right now, the self-enforced stigma was quite successful, and has gradually molded the job in to what it is today. However, Blue Mage is still more than capable of main healing, and I know that when I bring the job up I myself will be advertising it as much as I possibly can, personally.

yep. They actually said at one point that they were trying to accommodate the Necromancer wanting community, but they couldn't get the mechanics to work, so they converted it to PUP.

Necromancer wasn't even that good and was a complete pain in the ass to unlock. It had ONE cool spell (Death Flare or something like that?) that did crazy damage to everyone, even your own party and thus failed. By that point in the game you're better off being a Freelance or Mime.

If you want to play a Necromancer just pop in Diablo 2 because you won't find a better version anywhere else.

Well, I certainly agree that FFXI BLU is more versatile than some people give it credit for, and if I level it as a main I'm going to take advantage of that too. But when you compare magical Blue Magic to old school blue magics like Death Claw, Doom, Nova, etc., its nuking and enfeebling potential seems kind of nerfed; it's no accident that the most frequently used damage spells are all physical. Bad Breath and 1000 Needles aren't nearly as effective as you'd expect from the casting time and MP cost, either.

Even on the healing and support side, while magic fruit is nice, it's nowhere near white wind and mighty guard.

In exchange, FFXI BLUs have A sword skill and a decent selection of swords, which makes them much closer to the melee damage of a dedicated melee job like monk or samurai than was ever the case in the old FFs.

In FFV 1000 needles was damn near broken if you got it early on, never mind Mighty Guard >.>
