Re: Magus Sisters are the New Avatars?

I doubt it's Cait Sith. The cut scenes alone prove as much >.>

Bahamut is always a possibility, especially since we can already obtain his Whisper. It all hinges on whether or not SE is willing to bite their tongues like they did with Diabolos.

Bahamut, Phoenix, Odin and Alex are the ones I'm very much hoping for. I really don't see Atomos being a summon due to the WotG story >_>

How and when did you get a whisper of bahamut and what do you do with it?

What do you mean that SE bite their toungeus with Diabolos?

And regarding anima.. that avatar is STRONGLy RELATED to FFX

They originally said he was too important to the CoP story but backed down from that right quick >.>

As for the avatar back story arguments... those are null and void.

FF IV: Leviathan was key to the story, as was Asura and a few others

FF V: You have to beat down Ifrit to progress the game at one point (8 as well)

FF VI: Do I really have to explain this one?

and it goes on. Hell, in 9 Alexander was the freaking castle of the Alexandria, but that didn't stop SE from adding him to FFXI.

And you get Bahamut's whisper from beating him.

Malacite: Re: the spoiler, keep in mind that summoning an avatar projects a representation, not the avatar themselves like in other games. Bahamut would have to be shrunken very much to be projected, and existing avatars are already visibly smaller than their Prime counterparts, which iirc are smaller still than the avatar itself (sleeping in crystal).

On Magus Sisters, although I still doubt this is anything more than a typo, I wouldn't be surprised to see a fight against them as three separate mobs, in full size, but an inexplicably smaller trio when summoned (think YRP in KH2), which functions as a single target and summon.

I'm pretty convinced that Alexander and Odin will be the new Avatars. After all, SE did mention they had new summonable avatars in mind around the time ToAU was introduced. They're just now getting to it.

On-topic, I find The Magus Sisters far-fetched to be considered summonable in FFXI. Unless, of course, it'll be like how Feba described their appearance when done so. Meaning...one of the sisters could throw a melee attack when DPSing, and Blood Pact either simultaneously or separately. Astral Flow would obviously be Delta Strike.

              Okay, we all missed the bus apparently;

Cudos to Elmer the Pointy for clearing this mess up.

JP Button Magus Sisters = Shikaree Sisters?

The "Magus Sisters" are actually the Sin Hunters in FFXI. Nice twist when you think about it O.o

If anything had to come from FFX, I'd prefer Anima. I liked her story, and I liked her look. I actually did like the Sisters as well, but that seems odd to put into XI as an avatar. Phoenix or Anima next, please.

Considering that was linked in the first post of the thread, I am pretty sure only you missed the bus.

And most of us dismissed it as an homage, something that they hid in their to see if we'd notice. It's not like FFXI hasn't made references to pop culture; BCNM names especially come to mind. And old FF references aren't uncommon either (spoony bard, for one)

So yeah, she definitely has personality. If anything, I'd be afraid that she is too embedded in the story of FFX to cross over.
I know that. But as summonable creature, it lacks the charismatic appeal of say, Shiva or Ifrit. This is my opinion.

I wouldn't go on about their ingame stories because they wouldn't mean anything in a different game, since all of the titles have different lore.

As a summonable creature, Anima was boring and had no personality, imo.

As a plotline element its a different case.

Adding something like the sisters or ixion is probably easier to them because these creatures are all much more dynamic. Anima, as a summon, just stands there looking like its in pain, and it attacks monsters by throwing them a "glare", and its special move would be kinda hard to implement if they wanted to keep it true to the original.

Also, you guys... the next avatar may be "big", but I wonder if theyre gonna go batshit crazy big with that avatar.. i mean, it has to be summonable inside dungeons right? I cant see them adding something that wouldnt fit in.. say, garlage citadel.

Hey Bahamut can fit in The Shrine of Ru'Avitau, so big can be possible :p. (.dat swap Ramuh->Bahamut, Chaotic Strike becomes Bahamut's Booty Shake)

As for the subject, Shiraake are most definitely a homage to the Magus Sisters and most likely why Dissidia says they are in XI (there are 0 references to X-2 in Dissidia). If they want to add Sandy, Cindy and Mindy, wouldn't mind. If not, doesn't bother me at all.

Well, considering the most storyline significant esper in that game was Maduin, who has in fact not appeared in any other FF game ever, maybe you should. Boss fights and a 10 second conversation with Ramuh don't really qualify as "storyline significant" IMO.

Oh wait, there was that other esper that was the focus of the first part of the story... Tritoch. Who has also never appeared in any other FF before or since.

You fight espers/summons/etc. in lots of games. But some, like Syldra, Maduin, and Anima, are characters in the storyline in addition to monsters to fight. (Actually, I'm not sure Anima really rises to that level, but that's the argument, anyway.) Those tend not to be repeated (with the notable exceptions of Gilgamesh, the roving easter egg, and Leviathan, who had character-like significance in FFIV, but became one of the regularly reoccurring summons anyway).
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
                            RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54

Leviathan predates FFIV by at least one entry.

Way to miss the point entirely. I was referring to how central to the plot Espers were in general, not any specific character.

And as Balfree said, different game different lore. Since it's never the same universe (except X-2) it really doesn't matter worth a damn now does it?
