Well in my effort to get the tuning forks for all the avatars I realize that My fame in Bastok and Windurst completely sux. Now I could go out and get the needed fame to get the forks but was wondering if it just easier to get SMN to 20 and do the mini battles or should I just keep plugging away on fame till I get it. Currently my SMN islvl 10and I got hero fame in Sandy, lvl 5 fame in Bastok, and lvl 3 fame in Windurst...... any and all inputs welcomed

Re: What is faster -- getting fame or the mini battles
I would farm money until Bastok was first in Conquest and buy Corenettes and turn those in, over and over, in Windy.
I also just bought a bunch of Boyhada Moss/Grass (I forget exactly) and turned it in at Selbina for Sandy/Bastok fame.
I mined in Zeruhn for Zinc for Norg fame (Needed for Leviathan).
I found the values you needed somewhere on the Wiki or Allakhazam. I'm at work and can't get to those sites... so I can't get that for you. : (
Make sure your Windy fame gets way up there, because Kazham's fame is based on that and you need it for Ifrit... or they may be the same fame... I dont remember. I did them before the last time I quit and I just started back. : DTrinadeth - Ragnarok

I'll tell you why. As a 75 SMN you will be going and soloing avatars quite alot. If you're a SMN of at least Level 20, and you havent done ANY miniforks, You can warp STRAIGHT to the cloister. Which is 5 kinds of awesome.
Just think, you have to get 3-5 sets of whispers for all of the good SMN stuff, so thats an hour or ten of your life that you dont have to spend walking through Ifrits Cauldron.c:x:x:x:x{{:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::>

Re: What is faster -- getting fame or the mini battles
Well I have done a few corronetts and I have also done a few of the quadav backplate quest which is real easy for me to do since I got 60 RDM to go farm for them. As far as gettting Levithan Igot the fork while Iwas doing the utsusemi quest and I already got the fork for garuda. I beat shiva a while back. so as of now Ireally just need titan, Ramuh, Ifrit, Fenrir, Diablos.... I think . I got all the spirit pacts already. I really want to lvl SMN but would like to have all avatars before I get to far into itDahc Ramuh server

Having all of the avatars prior to starting the class is actually the best thing that could ever happen to you on SMN.c:x:x:x:x{{:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::>

Yeah I find that even with just having Shiva and all spirits, it makes it alot easier than just having Carby. I am hoping to get them all before I start ptyinDahc Ramuh server

Re: What is faster -- getting fame or the mini battles
Hmm, do you have a THF sub yet? If so, you might want to just wander out into one of the Sarutas and massacre mandragoras, (big ones, not the tiny guys by the gates). Cornette drops aren't all that rare with TH1, you'll also get 4 leaf buds and sulfur you can hand in for fame. It's annoying, but it does work. Hardly anyone camps or farms mandragoras, too.

Really ? I did not know they dropped the corronett. I abosolutely got THF to 15 so farming them would not be a problemDahc Ramuh server

Re: What is faster -- getting fame or the mini battles
Yup, I kind of think Laziness and lack of TH is the reason people generally wait for Bastok to be in 1st. It's faster that way, but the quest was originally designed for you to wander out and smack these mandys. They drop Cornettes, Yuhtunga Sulphur, and Four leaf buds. Each of which can be handed in to Yoran-Oran in Walls for differing amounts of gil. Also, if you swing by Yuhtunga Jungle, you can get a 3 leaf bud from the mandy's there, this is worth a bit more to him. The buds are R/E though, and thus not really worth making a special trip to farm unless you're already in the area. Doing it this way takes longer, but it allows you to make money off the quest rather than spending it. If you have the time and the subs, it's probably worth the effort though.

Re: What is faster -- getting fame or the mini battles
Trade Moss/Corn/Cabbage to the old sheep dude in Selbina to max out your fame in San d'Oria, Bastok, Selbina and Rabao. Then use that fame to buy cornettes from the music shop in Bastok Markets for only a 29 gil loss per trade to Yoran-Oran in Windurst Walls. This may take several trips since they are not stackable but it's the cheapest and fastest way to build up fame everywhere save Norg (Norg is still a bitch I find >.< farming the Necklaces in Giddeus is still the fastest way)
Though once your fame is up enough in Norg you can also do the Ninjutsu quests (which are worth more both in terms of fame and bling). The mini-forks require less fame I believe, but you also need at least lv 20 SMN and those fights are much tougher than the regular ones (since you're on your own and it's very easy to screw up. Also requires a fair bit of luck with Searing Light)

Re: What is faster -- getting fame or the mini battles
Do quests. Talk to random NPCs, open your quest log, find ones you haven't done yet, and *go do them*.
I hardly ever worked on fame, and I was a hero everywhere I went (I mean, I'm awesome, but that's unrelated). Even in Norg, once I had done enough Necklace farming to start the scroll quests there, I just did those quests and new ones as they opened up. Just do quests! Most of them are fairly simple. You also learn quite a bit by doing them.
Or, do things where you can farm and quest at the same time. Like the Tiger's teeth quest in San d'Oria.

Re: What is faster -- getting fame or the mini battles
Mini-forks don't take quite as much fame as the regular fork ones - only about half as much fame in comparison - but you'll need the regular fork quests to get whispers for Fenrir.
If you're just starting to level the job, there are usually repeatable quests to do as you level in the areas nearby, as well as some other one-shot quests that are still good to do. (Sandy and Windy are pretty good for repeatable quests. Bastok has some but they're not quite as convenient.)
Quick fame guide on all avatars aside from Carbuncle:
Ifrit: Kazham (Windurst)
Shiva: San d'Oria
Garuda: Rabao (Either San d'Oria or Bastok, I never can remember which)
Titan: Bastok
Ramuh: Mhaura (Windurst)
Leviathan: Norg (Tenshodo)
Fenrir: Windurst (No mini-prime)
Diabolos: Windurst (No mini-prime; Chains of Promathia 3-5 completion required)
Hope that helps
