  • SMN Merits

    I finally got SMN to 75 not long ago and I'm trying to figure out what to do in meriting. Specifically, I don't know what I want to merit in the Summoner Category. Physical accuracy is nice, I know, but I like spamming Diamond Dust in Besieged too... XD Anyone have any opinions/tips/suggestions/cookies?

    I would like to see a parse of a SMN in DD mode. Keep in mind, I'm not a high-level SMN, but this is my analysis of the merit group.

    The Group II Merit Pacts are important. I would think the most valuable for SMN would either be all 6 at 1 point each or 3 at 2 points each. 2@3 seems too specialized.

    As far as Group I Magic, resists can be well-controlled by avatar selection, therefore I say Magic Attack > Magic Accuracy.

    For Group I Physical, especially for avatars, just pretend you're always fighting IT's. Thusly, it is nearly impossible to cap accuracy, so Physical Accuracy > Physical Attack.

    Thusly:

    Group 2: Select Full Generalist (6@1) or 1/2 Specialist (3@2)
    Group 1: Physical Accuracy x 5, Magical Attack x 5

    My thoughts (again, not a high-level SMN).

      Not a high level summoner yet, either (level 40) but dont forget Summoning Skill Merits to increase the duration of buffs like hastega

        I went 5/5 physical accuracy & physical damage
        3 of the group 2 magics unlocked.
        4 points in smn magic

        Whether or not it's better than magical accuracy, I'm not sure.
        I havn't met anyone that's gone 5/5 magical accuracy & damage and using points into the group 2 merit blood pacts.

          What about 5/5 for magical attack and acc and then 2@3 for Shiva and Ramuh?

            Then you're locked into two elements for Merit pacts. What if your target is resistant to Thunder and it's Firesday?

            I'd rather have 3@2, Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, personally, but being able to toss a pact at 20% TP and get boost effect is quite godly. 60% TP takes a lot longer to get. Could also go 3 Ramuh, 2 Shiva, 1 Ifrit.

              im merited in Group II as 1 in each one and they do around 700+ each time for me

              in Group I im 5/5 Pyhisical Attack and 5/5 Magical attack Because i have SMN AF2+1 Hands and AF+1 Legs which increase avatar accuracy. idk if the +1s do anymore increase :X but i rarly miss and when i do its cause its on the bird form ghrahs in sea. otherwise im 5/5 mainly jsut for nether Blast. idk if id take 10more accuracy for loseing 100dmg in my magic so id recommend 5/5 Attack 5/5 Magic attack it really seems to work for myself and if u have trouble hitting u always have a strong magic to fall back on^^ or leviathan :D
