Re: where to get the ice effect??

Ice-- will it be snowing in the cave at the zoneline or will I have to at least go out of the cave at the beginning of the glacer to make sure it is snowing? also how often will the weather change(once every vana day or is it random?)--thanks for the info

Re: where to get the ice effect??

The weather marker will be next to your compass at the bottom left of your screen. If it shows up after you've zoned in, you'll have to zone back out and zone back in for it to count.
Weather seems to be pretty random, but it does seem like you have a higher chance of rain on watersday in some areas, fire on firesday, etc.

EDIT: Think I misread the question, weather can stop and start at random times, not necessarily at midnight and last until the next midnight.

Caspian--I was mainly wondering if I goto Beaucedine and don't get the effect how long will I have to wait to try to get it again(as happened to me last night--got to the zone but no snow for the effect)?--is there a set time frame for the weather to change or is it random like in real life?

Its pretty random from what I've seen. There's times its more likely, but with somewhere like Beaucedine, you stand a really good chance of getting it as soon as you zone in, and if not then, just wait at the zone line for 30 mins. maximum and you should easily have it by then.

Re: where to get the ice effect??

I've gotten the Ice Weather via Beacedine at least...god six times or so? It's very rare that you won't get it as soon as you zone in. If you don't, then log back into Rangemont Pass and log back out into the glacier after a minute or so. You have to zone in during the weather to get the effect, so just standing around in the zone won't be enough.

At no point should you have to wander within aggro range of anything. So just stay at the zone line.

One other good way to know in advance so you don't waste your time going out there is talk to one of those weather NPCs scattered about Vana'diel. When it talks about days, of course, they mean in Vana'diel time. They'll tell you that day's weather and the weather for the next three in-game days. Very useful.

I got ice fairly easily. Waiting for fire and thunder was a bit of a pain, however.

The weather NPCs are pretty inaccurate (just as real weathermen are). They're somewhat handy, but they're also wrong quite often. I used them a lot when I did a lot of fishing, and they'd miss a prediction maybe one time in four.

I did not know that. Thanks for pointing that out.
