  • Soloing at Uleguerand

OK, since I seem to have a hard time getting parties (well I am a SMN, explains that), and I am level 70, I decided to go to Uleguerand Range to solo Aglooliks. My main kiting path is between the bombs and the buffalo.

Somehow Carbuncle sometimes loses hate and it comes after me, Carbuncle not getting hate back, but I didn't DO anything. Of course I end up dieing. Why does this happen? Wth am I doing wrong? I got told by many SMNs that this spot is good for soloing.

        Re: Soloing at Uleguerand

Are you wearing Evoker's Horn? If so, replace it with other stuff for soloing mobs higher lvl than you. Since both these pieces have "Avatar: Enmity-#", Carby (and any avatar for that matter) is going to be losing hate a lot faster than normal. Since the mob you're fighting is VT/IT, its hitting carbuncle pretty hard, shedding its enmity pretty fast. Add these 2 things up and Carby's Enmity is hitting 0, leaving you as the next target. Good choices to replace your AF might be Austere/Penance hat for your head.

Standing further away can also help a bit (give carby a chance to hit it some more.)

EDIT: Oops Evk. Spats+1 have Avatar:Enmity-2., not regular. I've had mine for so long I forgot NQ don't XD.

As Gobo sais, remove any avatar -enmity stuff you are wearing like evoker's horn etc.
Stock yourself up with -enmity gear so your avatar can regain enmity easier.
          Evoker's Spats (Not +1!)
          Evoker's Pigaches
          Crow/Raven beret.

          Other hits:
When soloing with carby, you say your kite path is between the frozen lake and the buffalos?
Change that path if it is.
There is a small canyon with a dead end just a little past the buffalos on the right side which can be used as a great kite path without agroing anything to yourself.
(I used this path myself from level 66 up to 75)
Between that canyon and the frozen lake there is loads of space for you to kite, just hug the wall.

          Recasting Carbuncle:
When you recast Carbuncle too close to the mob you're fighting it gains you extra enmity and Carby will have a lot of trouble getting it off you.
Any action you partake close to a mob gains you enmity even commanding a blood pact, changing gear and running away.
When you kite, make sure you run away far enough.
Recommended recast distance: when you don't see Carby's HP bar anymore run 5/6 steps further before stopping and waiting for carby to die.
Remember every time you recast an avatar it's Enmity starts at 0!
When you get hit by a mob you're soloing do absolutely nothing!
Don't run, don't cast, don't command your pet to do anything!
Anything you do adds up to the enmity you have built up already, wait patiently for carby to regain enmity before running away and only cast spells when you far enough from the mob.
(Far enough as in unable to target it, take Carbuncle's HP bar as a pointer in this.)

I hope this advise helps you out a bit.

Actually, that helps a lot! Thanks!! Now I can solo efficiently! I guess I was kiting the wrong path. Didn't know about this other one. MOre room is nice.

              Re: Soloing at Uleguerand

A little MSpaint adjusted map to help you out a bit.

The green line is your kite path, it's completely free of mobs. (Used to spend days up there.)
When you pull a snoll walk towards the entrance, it should be far enough to recast when Carby dies.
Then follow the green line as your kiting path back and forth until the snoll decides to explode.
There are 2 ways to make out if they have exploded, either Carby comes back to you with very little HP left or you resummon carby and he stays at your side instead of heading out to get the mob you've agroed.
When carby comes back in sight or you recast him you wil get "Player gains XX experience points."

The dark red spot is a place to keep away from, using the green kite path shouldn't agro any buffalo on you.
