    Re: Fenrir Prime. I'm Confused.

    /poke fenrir? with pleasure.

Thats the thing I found out about SMN too late before I got addicted to the job.

I need so much high level help, and being new to the game I only know a handful of 75's...getting them to agree to help and co-ordinating everone on at the same time is nr on impossible.

So far I have got to know 2 75's from 2 seperate LS's.

/sigh Im never going to get Carbuncle Mitts/Fenrir/Diablos

      Re: Fenrir Prime. I'm Confused.

getting Carbuncle mitts with low level smn can be hard. But, just like anything else in this game, if you have made good friends, it's very possible. Only took me 15 minutes to get the trigger and 15 more minutes asking friends for help. And only 20 more minutes to actually run to pop the NM and kill it. All in a day ^^b

Well there is that option but since I have never once owned more than 40k that seems a tad high for me lol

              Re: Fenrir Prime. I'm Confused.

I started to make a post about whether or not extended macros & windower in general are cheating, but it ended up getting really long and I kept editing it to change things and I never did get it right. And now I'm tired and want to go to bed.

Anyway, unfortunately, if you want to be a SMN, you almost need to either raise another job into the 70's first or have several high level friends. It's not entirely fair. But it's the reality of the situation. I think people will be saying the same thing about BLU before too much longer, just because of the inherrent difficulties of learning blue magic, and, particularly, the requirement of having sea access to learn the 70+ spells.

The fact is, SE created some "advanced" jobs to be MORE advanced than others. I think it was deliberate on their part, to create additional challenges for players who had "seen it all, done it all." But the unfortunate part is that they made the jobs that are TRADEMARKED SQUARE-ENIX FINAL FANTASY SERIES JOBS... The most advanced jobs to play. I mean, let's face facts, white mages have existed in pretty much every RPG ever. Sure, they weren't always CALLED "white mages," but they always existed. The same can be said for black mages, monks, paladins, and most every other job in the game. Ninja and samurai were taken from Japanese history. But SMN and BLU were actually original creations, and SMN in particular became the trademark of the Final Fantasy series and the most beloved of all jobs among many of its fans.

So fans of the series who want to play as those jobs wind up having to either level up for months and months on a job they didn't want to play, or making a lot of gil to pay people they don't know, or trying to befriend high level people who usually don't want to get to know lower level folks. I guess they figured that real fans of the FF series wouldn't mind. But I still think it kind of sucks for people who bought the game with their hearts set on being a summoner.

You DON'T NEED to be level 75 in another job to get smn!
I did the quest with WHM at level 30, and now have a level 12 smn.....
unless you mean the process of actually going through all the levels in the game with smn (and gaining all the avatars e.t.c) til you hit 75. Is that what you meant?
If so, then I probably just got a little confused of our description.

Another thing I would ask about the vid I posted,
(and a few have commented on it here, but I have not really understod their meaning correctly) is that the player seemed to change his equipment every so often during the battle. (it was just the top body half I think)

Why did he have to do this? I don't understand!

                    Re: Fenrir Prime. I'm Confused.

You can get a little way on your own with smn with out needing a HL job or friends, once your smn is lvl 20 you can do the Mini fights for them (excluding Fenrir and Diabolos).

The reason why he was changing equipment is because the different armor would effect different spells, like making some more effective or increasing dmg or duration of them.

                      Re: Fenrir Prime. I'm Confused.

Different equipment performs different functions, and this is especially true for rdm. When he was binding and casting gravity, by the looks of it, he was going all out for a) int gear (INT macro) and b) enfeebling skill gear (Duelist's chapeau, Warlock's Tabard, Nashira Seraweels from what I could see). When he was running to get distance between himself and Fenrir, he was using Crimson Cuisses, which give movement speed +12%. When he was casting Utsu, I assume he had as much haste gear/Fast Cast gear on as possible. Nuking was elemental skill + INT gear.

Rdm have a TON of equipment swap macros the whole time. This is intensified when doing something like this solo.

And to complete smn, you do need high level help if you don't have a high level job. The Carby Mitts NM, for a piece of level 20 equipment, is rather unfair. You won't get Fenrir unless you can leech a party to a) avatars twice (to get the whispers) b) to kill Fen, which in a normal party is hard. Diabolos you won't get until you are past 3-5 in CoP, and then it is a horrible fight. After 60, people pretty much expect you to have all the summons, this is why everyone is saying you really need high level help to be a smn if you don't have a 75 job.

                        Re: Fenrir Prime. I'm Confused.

Yeah, BLU's even worse than SMN for getting all your stuff, because if BLU is your first job to 75 then it's either going to be incredibly slow, going through CoP etc, or you'll be leeching from people to get your spells that you'll owe them about 500 favours by the end of it.

One guy I know contacted me about getting body slam...

"LIKI! Come now, get me Body Slam!"

He's a friend, so I helped, but he had no clue how tough those buggers are (nor did I) so we died. Luckily, we got him the move on the first mob (3x SMN *can* kill them, but it's not easy)... it must be so, so frustrating as most spells are proportional to the mob's level against your level, and sometimes even higher.

BLU doesn't really interest me anyway, but for those who want it... it must be so depressing.

My friend said learning all BLU spells took more time than levelling up to 75 lol ^^

But the job is so awesome tho.... My friend showd me his 2hr with some SA+spell.... I can't remember what spell... it did 1700 damage. Not just once, but 3 times.... The mob was level 60-65 with 70% HP, it just died... instantly... right there.

I remember getting Spinal Cleave for a friend of mine /shudder...

But blu is just insane when done well. We take our ls blu to Limbus, and some of the mobs he just singlehandedly destroys.... the one with the dhalmels? A dhalmel did berserk so he did some spell and just took it from 50% to dead in like one move...

A good equiped and skilled BLU can be something to fear, they can rip through stuff like there is no tomorrow.
However also BLU has it's limitations.

Summoners are also very powerful weapons in Limbus and can also rip stuff to pieces in there.
And yes Berserked Dhalmel are fuuuuun *readies Predator claws* BAM! 2000+ damage :3
I don't know about BLU on Proto - Omega and Proto - Ultima though, we will have to try on one of our next fights since one of my LS members has it leveled up now.

I remember my first fenrir win.
2 ninjas, monk, bard, black mage and me as white mage.
We had a pretty hard time and it took us 2 tries, to get the hang of it.
Our first try was on darksday full moon, needles to say we got our pride and skill handed back to us. :x

I haven't watched the solo vid, but kudos to that rdm even if he did cheat a bit.

That vid, he didn't cheat at all - all regular macros.

And yeah, my first run at Fenrir was darksday full moon - he certainly taught us who was boss - 1/8...

And we have used a blu on Proto-Omega, haven't done an Ultima run yet. He is great in the tank party, Diamondhide > Stoneskin anyday, plus disseverment, Frenetic Rip, plus a couple of other spells I can't remember...
