Re: Summoner 10/18/06 Post Update Testing Thread (PUTT)

Well, I'm only vaguely aware of this, but I believe a lot of other skill levels, including crafting, work on a tiered system. Until you reach the next tier, your gains from higher skill will be less noticeable, however once you go up to the next tier is when you'll note significant differences. It's very likely smn magic skill works upon the same principle, with ~300 skill being where the next tier starts, which could explain the significant damage jump. I myself have noticed that after I began equipped my smn torque and earring (which puts me over 300, but without it puts me under), I do noticeably more damage using my BP's on mobs than without by as little as a 200 - 300 dmg margin, but sometimes as much as 1000 damage (depending on the mob, of course). It's a reasonable theory, since this is how many other skills (and magic skills of other jobs) are handled.

Our Merit BP's seem to get resisted less.

I haven't really tested it with summoning magic skill gear but I've noticed while fighting Suzaku and Seiryu last sunday when I tried them just for fun they actually did more then 30 damage they normally did.
I got consistent 437 Grand Falls on Suzaku and the same number on Seiryu when I used Heavenly Strike.

Also using Nether Blast on Kaiser Behemoth in NW Apollyon did the full 508 damage every time to my surprise.
This used to hit for 340~ before the patch.

This may be a complete fluke, too. But I've noticed that post patch raising Summoning Magic seems vastly easier. I'm not talking about just using summonings over and over like we used to do, but with the new checks from BPs, I'm getting the same skillup rate a BLM gets with Elemental Magics. Moon phase wasn't ideal either, but when I was soloing pots, it seemed like every third or forth Mountain Buster was giving a skillup. I think I'm now 6 from my level cap at 71 after just dinging, and that's from soloing at 9 under level cap and 14k tnl right after the patch. That's the fastest my skill has ever risen, and I was really hoping it'd blue out when I was at that last 1.0 to cap before I dinged.

This is because bp:rages are cast on a target higher level than you, while summons are only cast on yourself. Skillup chance depends greatly on the target's level.

Do you see a higher skillup rate with bp:wards too? Those probably still use the same formula as enhancing, healing, or prepatch summon/dismiss.
