  • Pheonix Prerec Quest?

OKAY.. I'm sure many of you are aware of the quest
"A Reputation in Ruins" in upper jeuno?

You all got a pheonix armband... right?

    NOT ME!!!

    I got a "PHEONIX PERL".

You all got a cs where you flipped a machine on, right?
NOT ME! the door glowed, and that's it...
SE is planning something, or was. I'll get extremely emo if they don't follow through. o.o

Mind you: I'm a level 75smn With Diabolos, and I've beaten COP. I would like someone else to try this to confirm.

      Yep, I'm giddy with anticipation.

Remember though, people who are NOT summoners get a DIFFERENT KEY ITEM... and a DIFFERENT CUTSCENE... that's what's so shocking about this. Also, he trails off, speaking about "if he could activate all the towers... ahh, nevermind"

:D I know it's been there for a while, but for sumoners to get a different key item... that's such a tease.

        Re: Pheonix Prerec Quest?

I've been kind of curious about this quest lately, and I can confirm that we do get a different item than everyone else when we activate it on SMN. What strikes me, however is:

        1. We can get a piece of Diabolos from beating his Avatar BC.
        2. We can get a piece of Fenrir from beating his BC.
        3. "Waking the Beast" gives us a lot of power to supposedly help Fenrir, although the CS afterward makes you wonder more if it's for Carbuncle instead. Keeping that power afterwards, "Interruptor of Dreams" title, might give you a piece of Carby?
        4. We can get a piece of Bahamut by beating his BC for the Whisper. Though you later use it to finish off the RoZ/CoP storylines, there is some precidence here with the former "Dark Mana Orb" key item we got from Fenrir's BC after beating Windurst 9-2 and all the S.O.B. quests.
        5. This quest seems to give us a piece of Phoenix.

This all leads me to wonder, if I gathered the first 4 pieces and went back to the NPC for this quest, would something else trigger? I can't just be able to collect a piece of each of the 5 terrestrial avatars for no good reason other than souvenirs. Especially when you consider how big of a pain in the ass it is to go through and collect all these pieces.

There's no quest or reward in yet, (.Dat mining would have found it by now if there was), but that's a very convincing connect-the-dots picture that there might be one coming sooner or later. SE has already said that Bahamut would not be a summon, due to size/story/power restrictions, but nothing they really said ruled out a scaled down version like Neo-bahamut as a summonable avatar later. Additionally, the "Waking the Beast" storyline makes clear that you're getting dangerously close to waking the sleeping gods by helping Carbuncle do whatever it is he's trying. Is it possible that the promised continuation of the "Waking the Beast" quest-line could upset the present balance and awaken the sleeping gods again? In that continuation, it might make sense for us to get a scaled down Bahamut and Pheonix summon to help restore the balance of power.

I really wouldn't put something like that past S-E, it's just epic sounding enough to fit with FFXI's atmosphere. Given how many times the present storylines have twisted, turned, doubled back on themselves, and performed a full gainer with a twist, it would make sense to not rule anything out if there are enough clues otherwise.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.
