If you fight smart you can kill the leeches as a blm in your low 30s. Just beware of links and make good use of drain and ice spikes.

I guess I got lucky... me and friend were on our way to kill the Ninja quest nm's and just dragged all the leeches along the way to right outside the nm's spawn point and killed them all. They dropped 2 ruby's... 1 for me and 1 for him. So it took us a total of 15 mins. ^^

Took me about an hour to get mine killing leeches in qufim island. I had 3 friends (all whm with hammers so awfull dmg) and we mabey killed 50 and got it. I got worried after 40 or so but it came sooner or later ^^.

thx guys but the down side is that after i got ruby i had to get heat and it took 56hrs >.<

An LS mate got really lucky. I brought him to the Nin quest NM place, and cleared out the 2 or so leeches that were there, and it dropped on one of them.

That's why it's easier to just carry the Ruby around and gather your elements as you go, instead of giving yourself a headache by trying to get your elements ASAP.

COngrats on getting it ^^ glad to hear I'm not the only one with 300+ leech kills and no drop... /sigh I've been to burimburu about ten times... I just kill 'em at random now, hoping one day to finally become smn.... ><

Do all leech mobs drop it? If they don't, then do the ones in Vulkrum drop the ruby?

Many, but not all, leeches can drop the ruby. Valkurm's leeches do not qualify.

Um... I spent about.... 9 hours killing leeches with a friend in buburimu, so yeah... I'm not exactly sure how many dead leeches that makes, but it's a low drop rate Best of luck to you in getting it!

Well I got mine on the first leach I killed in the Sea Serpents Grotto, while hunting Masan.

Guess I got really lucky

I spent like an hour killing leeches, then I had an LS picture event at Bibiki Bay. Afterwards they agreed to help me out with the Ruby, 2nd Leech dropped it. And getting heat weather was ANNOYING. I spent 3 days in Altepa and nothing.

Lol, I finally got it!

When I hit lvl 41 on MNK I switched my sub to THF and got two of my LS mates (lvl 50 MNK/WAR Garcia and lvl 72 WHM/THF Fobebrion) to help farm leeches in Buburimu.

It took us 15 minutes before we got the drop. But that's not the funny part:

After I activated the quest and zoned into Tahrongi, I got the orange weather.
After I got off the ship to Selbina and zoned into Valkrum, I got the red weather, then 5 seconds later it switched to yellow weather
When I zoned into La Theine, got the blue weather, it then changed after a few minutes to green weather

All I need now is violet (thunder) and white (snow) before I'm done. I know Qufim is best for violet, but where is the best place for white, and if you guys know where it is, could you tell me?

Best place for Thunder is Pashow Marchlands. Best place for Ice is Beaucedine Glacier.

Did my carby ruby in Bubu on the beach. Took me eight hours one weekend just to get the drop. Helps a whole lot if you or a friend has THII.

Helped a friend with it a few months later, and got the ruby on the first kill. -.-

Got heat effect once I zoned into West Altepa the first time. However, this was my first visit to the deserts, and it took me 3 hrs just to find Rabao. ><
