  • A Summoner Test

While I was leveling my summoning magic, I started thinking about perpetuation costs of spirits and avatars and I was thinking about how much mp will it take to get the point where your spirits cast a spell compared to how much mp will it take to recast a spell after a minute. So I do a little test really quick.

Note: I am a level 50 Summoner and I had no ele-staves on me while using this test. I did however use the Austere Robe for perpetuation cost -2 and Blood pact delay -3. My Austere hat was Blood Pact delay -2. The weapon I used was Blood pact delay +3. I'm saying this because it relates to the mp consumption for the test.

At my summoning skill level, my spirits drain 11 mp per tick. They cast every 35 seconds for me. It took exactly 10 ticks (not seconds) for it to cast a spell. So, it took 110 mp on the way to cast a spell.

For avatars (not including Fenrir, Diabolos, and Carbuncle), they drained 6 mp per tick. My equips made the recast timer for avatars 58 seconds. It took 18 ticks for me to recast a spell. So, it took 108 mp on the way to recast a spell.

For Carbuncle, it drained 4 mp per tick. Like the other avatars, Carbuncle had a recast time of 58 and 18 ticks to recast a spell. So, it took 72 mp on the way to recast a spell.

If I were to wait for my spirits to cast 2 spells, it would be 70 seconds (1 minute and 10 seconds) and would 220 mp on the way to the second spell (not including the mp consumption during the casting of a spirit).

2 spells in 1 minute and 10 seconds for spirits is 220 mp. 1 spell in approximately 1 minute for avatars is 108 mp. 2 spells in 2 minutes for avatars (not including Diabolos, Fenrir, and Carbuncle) is 216 mp.

So basically for spirits you would want to cast spells faster, but consume mp faster as well. For avatars, you would want to cast spells later, but consume more mp later too. Though, for avatars, your spells require a certain mp too. Spirits, however, don't need a certain amount of mp to cast something. So, depending on what spell you used, your avatars consumed more.

Example: At my summoning magic level, it takes 35 seconds for my spirits to cast a spell so it's 110 mp consumed on the way to recast it. For the avatars, 108 mp is drained on the way to recast a spell a long with the mp drained from the spell. So if I used a (Spell) IV spell like Aero 4, that costs 118 mp. Combined with the mp drained on the way to recast, that's a total of 216 in 1 minute. Like I said for spirits, if I wanted to use 2 spells it would be 1 minute in 10 seconds and it'll consume 220 mp on the way.

Another Note: Right now my smn skill is either 119 or 120. At my lvl, it caps at 152, so the recast timer for my spirits would be 25 seconds. Think about how that changes the mp consumption now.

So basically, the spirits use just a little more mp than the avatars (like I said, not including the terrestial avatars) depending on the mp cost of your spell. Mainly like using a spell around 100 mp.

Just sharing some info with you all. I hope this doesn't come to a big argument even though I don't see how it could.

    Re: A Summoner Test

Although what you said was common knowledge, I can't fault you for doing your own tests and providing your own numbers and sharing your information. So, thanks for that.

This probably wouldn't have a big impact on your results, but austure robe isn't -2 perpetuation cost though. (The HQ is though.) Was probably a typo while typing this post anyway.

My main problem with using spirits is the spells they cast aren't always useful. Losing a ton of MP so an air spirit can cast silence on a non-casting monster is a waste of MP. It's not just air/ice/earth spirits that have that problem either. Thanks to elemental debuffs you have the opportunity for all of your spirits with high damage spells to waste MP.
