Do what I did was as a RDM. I was cnnstantly told to refresh, dispel and haste when I was keeping track of that in every PT. People don't care, they won't listen.

Well, until you start telling them how to do thier jobs:

DRG - "It hates you! Super Jump!"
        PLD - "Provoke you ninny!"
RNG - "Put arrows in the monster!"
        DRK - "Miss!"

        Then they usually stop.

As for the OP, I didn't read much of anything you said. Use paragraphs, please.

Re: Stop telling SMN's what to do

Please don't do things "Your way". This isn't Burger King. Yes, you are paying to play the game, but so are the 5 other people who you're partying with. And so is the BST who's "taking your mobs." If you're doing something that's not considered the norm, and get kicked because of it, then it's your fault, and no one elses. No, they aren't pricks because they kicked you. In fact, most parties, if somebody does something, I KNOW somebody will say something. Then the person in question will be kicked if they do not act like a normal <job>.

As for SMNs, you WILL be main healing. If you don't like to, then don't expect to get too many parties. Because until 70, SMNs don't do that much DMG. Basically, you'll be using Avatars for Buffs, Curagas, and the occasional MB with a Tier 4 Spell at 60+.

Re: Stop telling SMN's what to do

In your case I guess the PT wants more damage from you and less healing? I would say, use your own judgement. If what the PT wants you to do isn't going to hurt the PT performance as a whole, just do it. You're all same team afterall. Unless of course you know for sure it will cause negative effects for certain.

well by the way I've been ina PT with 60+ SMN that really can't perform his job well at all... as much as I wanted to give him advice, I know people can get angry and will ended up hating me just like what the OP is right now... so I don't even bother... unless asked first...

Re: Stop telling SMN's what to do

I know that people don't like being told how to do their job, even from somebody higher level than them. I just generally don't care. If somebody is doing something wrong, I try to mention it like a random fact. If they still don't listen/care (or if they get nasty right at the start) then I use less and less tact until I'm about as subtle as a brick through a window.

The last time I partied in KRT in a SMNx5+BRD party is a pretty good example of this. I had exped from 70 to 72 almost entirely on these parties, and had gone to a few after that also. It had been a long time since I had hit 75, and these were brand new SMN, some not even 75 yet.

I noticed they were all using garuda against skeletons. Predator claws is slashing. Skeletons are strong against slashing. I mention in party chat that most SMN use titan on skeletons for better and more consistant damage. One or two of them try titan, the others use garuda again.

I mention that predator claws does poor damage to skeletons because it's slashing and mountain buster is the damage type skeletons are weak to. A few of them complain about titan's damage (not having tried it in this group yet) and switch to leviathan. Spinning Dive is slashing, just like predator claws.

I get them to try titan, but they insist that the bard uses earth thenody to make up for the poor damage. I try to tell them that mountain buster is physical, and lowering it's earth resistance wouldn't do anything, but they ignore that. Bard uses thenody right at the start of fight, pulls hate right when 4 blood pacts were about to go off (I was forced to be the puller, so I was just summoning titan at this point) and we see a screen full of "out of range" errors.

During all of this, I'm having to try to convince all these tarutaru SMN with tons of -HP gear (seriously, what is the obession with tarutaru's and zenith gear?) to step away from the skeletons to get out of blood saber/black cloud/-ga III range... The bard kept trying to thenody the monster right before blood pacts, causing more wasted MP... Some of the SMN started regressing back to using predator claws on skeletons...and I snapped and left, losing my faith in most SMN for a very long time.

Uh. Yeah. So the point of that was that I try to work my way up to breaking news to them to try to sound less condesending. Doesn't usually work. I've had to warp II a few people on my BLM because they got mouthy when I'd ask them to put the sword away if they can't handle meleeing and refreshing/singing. So what if they don't like me? Eventually they'll learn that parties expect them to do certain things and they can't do whatever they please.

That or they'll become the high level joke of the server. I can think of two of these on my server off the top of my head, and I haven't exped a high level job in about 7 months. One of them being one of the SMN in that party I just ranted about...

                  Firstly:
It hasnt happend alot but its 3 parties now that have told me no u have to leave your avatar out and let him fight...that drains my mp, i do the BP and release unless its Carbuncle, another thing...people please listen, if smns really wanted to main heal, WE WOULD BE WHM'S!!!!!!!!!!
Seems to me like your contradicting yourself. You don't want to Summon, and you don't want to Heal. Whats left, leeching for 55 seconds?

Re: Stop telling SMN's what to do

I don't know if it's my lack of level or what, but I have never, ever encountered any animosity towards me as to what I should be doing in a party. I ask upon arriving what they want and I do that. I had one party invite me for DD. I had another invite me soley to use Shiva to start SC's with one of the melee members. And yet another had me doing main heal, but the NIN was so damned good, I ended up having plenty of mp to do that and do MB with the rdm and blm on the SC. Which, when we ended up doing it right, the nin, myself, the rdm, and the blm all four MB'd the same SC which was very nice. And then I've just been the main healer/buffer and that seems to work really well too.

I actually enjoy the versatility that my job/subjob combo offers. I can fill in more roles than some jobs. Who I feel kinda bad for. Especially rdms. I try to be super nice to them. If they let my Refresh slip I don't really care. They'll notice eventually. I think it's horrible to jump them about it. Especially at my level when they're probably still trying to get their timing/cycling of it down. If they ask me to /tell them when it goes down, I will. But if not, I leave it to their good judgement, unless I'm just running really low on MP. Though that happens less and less these days. It's like the people who start screaming at our whm for Erase the second slow hits them. You know, give them at least 30 seconds to make sure they haven't missed it in the log and are getting to it. If they don't seem to notice, *then* ask.

And yeah, about healing... even when the party has a white mage who is very competent, between BP's, I still cure if needed. To save them mp and just help things along. Might as well. I've got another minute until I can do anything useful, and just letting an avatar melee is kind of wasteful. I'm hoping S-E looks into that, but that is another thread altogether. As the levels have gone, I've become better and better at rationing MP and even with PLD tanks I don't usually end up low on MP, especially if the PLD knows what he's doing. I like healing. WHM was the first job I had, and it's kind of hard for me to play a job that just stands by helplessly while someone dies. If I've got the power to stop that, I will.

Re: Stop telling SMN's what to do

see i loved the pt i was in last night cause there was no confusion, from the start pt leader told me he needed a mina heal i was like ok, i have fenrir r u sure u dont want buffs and he tells me lets see how we do first

we started off no summons we owned, i only healed the mnks when theyn took hate and the pld was doing a great job, so i decided to bring out fen fen and use ecliptic howl and the mnks starteds owning even more so they loved it, the rdm ALWAYS kept me refreshed and my mp never dropped below 650 out of a total of 876 at my current lvl with food.

HERE IS WHERE THE STUPIDY KICKS IN.....

the pt leader decides that, HEY we r doing so good lets go to another area and kill for more xp, what i never understood is, if u r doing so amazingly awsome in a place...WHY LEAVE, he took us to cape terrigan which me and the mnk died getting there cause he ran off to the camp withtout us, and when we get there, he says oh i think these r too strong for us lets go back.

so already pissed of how another great pt was ruined thanks to the ignorance and cockyness of a pt leader, i said actually guys i gtg bed, i have working the morning lol, they were like ok, thanks for ur help and u did a great job, i took my compliments and left.

while running through cape terrigan then to gustav then to valk all the way to sandy, the pt leader sent me TWENTY TWO TELLS, telling me he really would like it if i could stay up later to continue pting, i told him the first 7 times that i couldnt i had work, but he kept insisting. so i just blisted and went on ym way...he had one of his friends send me tells and i just logged and went too bed cause it got annoying

this is the kind os S.I.R. i spoker of, well thx to everyone who responded and is responding to this.

Personally, I love getting 100-120 exp every minute. That will be 7k - 8k an hour which is PERFECT in my opinion. But you always get someone in the group that thinks 200+ is always better (meaning 2-4 minutes per fight + resting time) which makes group move, then suck, then disband.

                          I feel ya.

I had that problem not too long ago. We were pulling very good chains where we were, and the dragoon starts whining about he wants 50, right now, tonight, and he was only lvl 45. So we moved, and of course, it taking so long to get there, two people had to go and then the party broke.

In the time it took us to get all organized and moved we could've had alot more exp. I tried to tell them that, but no one listened. -_-' Meh. Whatcha gonna do? I'm all for better exp. But when you know some of the pt members are running short on time, you don't just suddenly say 'okay, let's move, even though it's gonna take a half hour to get it executed.' Especially since we were doing fine where we were w/ 100-120ish exp. You stay put, wait until they're gone, move what's left of the party and start doing invites from there.

You make me wish I was on Ramuh. The only time I've ever been able to get people to exp in non-standard zones was in a static, and even then they were like "Are you sure about this? If this sucks, we're blaming you."

Thankfully it was awesome and they didn't hate me forever, but still. I really miss having fun with different exp locations.
