Re: My role in a party...

Not sure if this should go here but it's pretty much the same topic. I had my first party as a smn today and it did'nt go to well. I got invited to the party, the leader changed leadership serveral times ending up with me. It was going alright except that our pld was unable to tank, I main healed and it went ok but then our puller quit and no-one else could pull so our rdm dia pulled. The rest of the party wanted a whm so I got one and tried pulling. I can carby pull ok and it's good at getting rid of link but I could not do anything else. Carby hits for 5-10 damage but only when he hits and I tried meleeing but gave up as I was not much better. I don't know how much damage the others did as I still have my whm chat filters on.

Basicly I felt useless and probably was, if someone was leader and had told me what to do, I would have been ok. Unluckely for me, I end up being passed leadership quite often. If I do in this kind of situation again, what should I do?

SMN in valkurm sucks. It's hard to keep people alive, you can't do a whole lot of damage, and you have few debuff moves.

Re: My role in a party...

As you continue to level SMN, you'll have more options to use your Blood Pacts to help the party. At 26 (I believe, don't quote me on that ^^) Leviathan gets Tail Whip, which is very useful in the jungles for extra damage + Gravity, which will reduce the mob's movement speed and lower evasion. At 25, Garuda gets Aerial Armor which will give 3 shadow Blink AoE... useful in certain situations. Now, your avatar accuracy is usually going to be pretty sucky vs. ITs, as well as melee damage, but you just have to live with it. Regardless, as you advance in levels you will have increasingly more tools at your disposal.

Now don't forget, SE promised to give SMN more incentive to leave their avatars out in between Blood Pacts, so whenever that update happens the SMN job could change quite a bit.

Oh, and if you haven't obtained them already, be sure to do the level 20 Mini Avatar battles for Ifrit, Ramuh, Shiva, Titan, Garuda, and Leviathan.
