that bomb thread showed me that there wasnt any guide to soloing. I will try to reword it, but mob levels and maps will come from Spira's guide (refer to link at end of post if you want to see his guide).
***Equipment***
Equipment matters. The equipment you will most likely want are the Carbuncle mitts, Light/Apollo Staff, and the Austere gear. Keep in mind that you do not want your avatar's enmity to go down, thats why the evoker's doublet nor horn would be good for soloing.
Carbuncle Mitts- Halfs Carbuncle's cost
Light Staff- Normal Quality -2, HQ -3 (thnx for reminding me Shirai)
Austere robe- the Austere has a -1 perp and the HQ has -2
Vermillion cloak- hads a refresh effect, this can allow you to heal mp with carby out. (please note that you may need the HQ light staff to do that)
Yingyang Robe- like the vermillion but it has stats exclusive for summoner.
***Food***
I dont touch much food when I am a mage, But if there is a food i recomend for soloing, I would say Morron Glace or Snoll Gelatos. They both raise a large amount of MP that you have which can give you a bigger advantage if you do not have free carbuncle yet, as for the people who have free carbuncle, this may be usefull time to time if you need to cast meteorite to pull hate away from you.
***Macros***
You really only need 3 macros, Carbuncle ,Assault, and Release. There may be other spells you might wanna keep handy incase things get messy. If you can cast it, keep Reraise up incase you get cought in an explosion. Other spells like Blink and Stoneskin can be used so if you get hate, you can save yourself while carby gains back the hate.

***Strategy***
First Find your camp, Spira's guide to soloing has a good map of where to camp. (link at the bottom of guide). After finding your kiting area, cast stoneskin and blink to get ready for the kiting. Summon Carbuncle and assault the bomb. run back twards your camp untill your carbuncle's HP bar dissapears, go a little further (not too far) and wait for carby to die. As soon as he dies, recast carbuncle and he will run after the bomb again and gain hate. Repeat this step untill the bomb explodes (Self-destruct on normal bombs, Hypothermal Combustion). If you have free carby you can go straight after another one. It may take a while before the bomb explodes, this is not something for the impatient.
Everything i said in points
-Ifrit's Cauldron-
Volcanic Bombs- These are your primary target in this area, They berserk a lot so it may take a while for them to Self-Destruct
+Dangers+
Bats (Sound), Goblins (Sight), Other volcanic Bombs (Sight,Magic)
-Uleg. Range-
Snolls- Starter mobs in this area at the enterence. Can start on these about lv 51.
Morozko- These can be started at the low 60s, you can find these futher up the mountain.
Akselloak- Higher level than Morozko, but these are harder to find.
Agloolik- at the top of the mountain, these are for the higher levels, solo about level 70.
+Dangers+
Tigers (Sight), Bats (Sound), Raptors (Sound), Brontotaurs (True sight), Evil Eyes (Sound/sight)

***Gil from Snolls***
People who have cooking skill really high could craft Snoll Gelatos from the Arms that they drop. If you have alchemy also up to 20+ you could possibly HQ them for even more gil, but im not sure how much the food is worth. Normal Snoll arms can be worth some gil as well in stacks, right now they are going for about 25k per stack, not much to some people but it is good money for other food that you with to use while soloing.
***Other Possible Mobs***
There are other types of mobs that a summoner could party or solo with.
Goblin's Rarabs, These can be found at bibiki bay, good xp at level 60-68
Goblins, these are everywhere, possible to make them suicide with Bomb Toss
Worms, These are possible, i dont go after them much, good soloing at 20.
Pots, These can be killed with a party, Good with Titan's Mountain Buster
Dolls, Possible to make these explode with meltdown, rare skill though
Skeletons, Very good 70+ party mob here, Mountain Buster does the trick here.
Ghost, eh not as good as skeletons, but possible with Leviathan.
