Could somoene please explain the fascination with bomb mobs to me? Is it just a fast way for smn to solo? And what do you do, just throw avatars at it till it self destructs?

Re: The Bomb Craze
Basically, you send Carbuncle to his doom vs a Bomb. The Bomb self destructs, Carbuncle utters a curse onto you, and you get EXP. Depending on how fast the bombs blow their tops, you can easily EXP chain with yourself (assuming they all detonate on first WS). It's solo-able, fairly safe, and not too taxing on the brain...plus you don't hafta main healAll spells obtained!

Re: The Bomb Craze
Coming from a bst (you guys stole it! ), I can assure you that you can do this at any level really, as long as you can keep a pet out forever. MP drinks, whatever. This works on Bombs and goblins, covers a wide range of levels Good luck with it-75bst/72war/61nin/37rdm/37thf/etc...

There's more then bombs and snolls that self destruct, you could try goblins as well in hopes they drop the bomb instead of tossing it on buncle.
Or worms but they don't self destruct and they do take a while to kill, it is however very safe.
Get cooking to level 10 and bring a few stacks of Saruta oranges and Water Crystals to make your own Orange Juices and you're set to go.
Recommended to start soloing on bombs is level 51 when you get your light staff.
In combination with Carbuncle mitts Carby will be free to use.
Next to that you can take the bombs in places where they are always there.
Garlaige Citadel, Ifrit's Cauldron and Uleguerand Range.
On Killing Ifrit there's a great guide on how and where you can solo them safely.

This has helped me greatly on my solo career.
As for soloing it does need practice and it doesn't come without risk.
the most places you solo are filled with other monsters that will agro you so you'll have to find places that have the space for you to run far enough to resummon carbuncle safely.
When I started soloing I died a lot finding the right camps, but in the end it was more then worth it when I got the hang of soloing.
Start with Bombs that con as Tough and move on to Very tough or even Incredibly tough when you get the hang of it.

However you beastmasters have been a great inspiration to our soloing careers.

Soloing is a good way to get experience points, when I'm lucky and the explode quick I get just as much per hour as I would get in a normal exp party.
But yes, healing has a little bit to do with why I solo since most people don't have the slightest clue on what a summoner can do more for a party then just playing main healer.
Next to that, I miss too many good spells I have as my whm to really save lives and conserve MP.
Even with keeping Carbuncle out during fights I use more MP healing on summoner per chain then I would on White mage.Last edited by Shirai; 05-21-2006, 05:02 AM.Quetzalcoatl Server | WHM 80 | SMN 76 | NIN 75

Re: The Bomb Craze
Interesting idea. Could I do this as rdm/smn? With refresh, I can keep carbunkle out indefinately, but would he die too fast from being subbed carbie? If he wouldn't die terribly fast, I could probably get a recast off with blink/stoneskin/phalanx. I wouldn't depend on this for xp or anything, but it might be fun to try.

an avatar from a summoner subjob has the same strength as the subjob, meaning it will die in 1/2 maybe 3 hits.
too fast to run to a safe place.
If it were to be as strong, summoner would definately be overpowered on a subjob.Quetzalcoatl Server | WHM 80 | SMN 76 | NIN 75

Re: The Bomb Craze
I do a lot of soloing with bombs as a summoner. Started about level 51 when i could have my light staff and when to Ifrit's Cauldron at the enterence to kite them there. At a higher level i got my carby mitts which i felt safer to go to uleg. range for snolls. After i got to about in the low to mid 60s i went further up the mountain to solo and start summoner partys. When i got close to the 70s, i than went up the the top of the mountain at the lake to solo, duo, trio, no matter how big the party is, its a great place to party for summoner's. Pain in the *** to get up there, but worth it in the end. as a 70-71 summoner right now, i gain 300 xp per kill, and most of the time i get up to chain #2 which gives my 375 xp.

please note that i do not have the dalmatica or the relic staff, sig is just for show.

Re: The Bomb Craze
Seperate Chains, I think I could have hit 600 if I used the other exp band. I took an an hour per day soloing, did 3-4k each day for about a week. I couldn't get a exp party. T_T.
This was at level 62 -> 63Hacked on 9/9/09
