Omniblast was talking about astral flows on gods, not nether blast on gods. :x

My set-up is 2 avatar physical attack, 1 avatar physical accuracy. Most of my merit points go into stuff that helps my melee jobs.

If I ever am able to merit again, I'll likely just go with maxed out physical attack, then think about where to go from there after they change how SMN works (whenever they get around to that). I'll consider summoning magic skill after I figure out how they're going to change it.

Super delayed edit/addition:

Sadly enough, SMN's are not useful in burn parties except smn burn parties, but you can't do that in expansion areas... well not that anyone's figured it out yet.

SMN x 3 vs VT imps in caedarva. Takes about 3 blood pacts to kill them outright. Fenrir works fairly well too. Just make sure whoever is tanking releases when they cast -ga IIs...their spells are really painful. They're also duoable for decent exp. I honestly haven't tried 3 SMN on them, but a level 75SMN and a level 70SMN duoing at 3k-4k an hour (without exp ring) isn't too bad either.

Basically smn can rip through any blm type mob. Smn have on-command high damage physical attacks, and blm's low eva and def make them easy targets. Also, their nukes dont really matter as the damage is just hitting your avatar. Another good duoing spot is aura pots in sky. You can even solo chain those for exp and water if you know what you're doing. I don't know many other high population blm mob areas off the top of my head.

I had a rough time with merits. Since last year i have placed and dumped over 40 merits. So today I find myself doing merits again for drg ;_;. Smn is the only mage job I plan on leveling to 75, so I had no reservation about adding summoning skill merits.

My merits after a year of playing around with merits are

5 avatar magical accuracy

5 elemental cost reduction

+4% critical hit rate (for me and my staff and other jobs like drg, bst, and pup)

Maxed summoning skill merits (just finished these the begining of this year)

MP +30

HP +30

Just two merits of avatar attack and it had a large effect on VT euvhi's in sea. Myself and another level 75 SMN were duoing these and I was always doing more damage per fight... Then she spent her merits on 2 avatar attack merits and our damage was back to being about the same again.

I have so far 2 Merits in Melee Attack and 3 in Melee Accuracy. I've noticed so far, at least with the multi hit BPs (ie. Predator claws) that it lands consistently more often so it's all good.

I'll probably max out attack and accuracy, as I don't raid, not in a HNM Ls and don't have Diabolos so Magic accuracy/atk doesn't really offer me much.

I just finished out my summoner job specific merits 10/10.
3 in physical attack and accuracy and 2 in magical attack and accuracy.

I have noticed an increase in damage of multi hit bps and a small jump in normal melee damage via the avatars. Messing around in ToA as well I have seemed to experience normal melee hits connecting more often (as well as on bombs in ulegue. range). No hardcore data to support this, just my feelings.

How much does physical damage help with the bloodpact damage like leviathan and titans?

To be honest, I never really noticed a different in physical attack merits until I duoed with another SMN without them. Plus the amount of damage increased would depend on the monster too.
