Summoner help!

ok....well....this is my first post on this site, and i hope i get good feedback...but im origianly a lvl 39DRG, but i decided to put up my Lance for awhile and start lvling smn. I leveld it all day today and got it to 15 almost 16. I know you can get avatars at lvl 20 but wich is the easyiest and what would i need to fight them, and most importantly what gear should i use. O also cant fight them without knowing ware they are! ><
