Haha. SpecificationDesire. Don't be so sorry all the time. It's your opinion and other people can take it how they want. It's not like you were saying for a fact that Galka are ugly, (even though I would agree with that) it's just your opinion. =)
What he said. Oh and, that isn't the hulk, if I'm right its Rico from Xenogears.
I was in a LS with a Galka Summoner. He was level 75, and in order for him to beat me in MP he had to eat Squirrel Delights. I was only level 72, and I ate a regular Marrion Glance and bested him in mp.
At level 73, wearing 2 zenith's gears I have 499 HP and 1300 MP. When my MP is drained I switch to regular gears which put me at 1233 mp max. I don't have some gear such as Hedgehog Bomb, or Evoker's ring yet. I'm planning on hitting 1500 mp with my smn at level 75.
I only played hume for one fact.... they can be anyjob in the game and do it well i have fun playing all jobs yet if i knew i would only play mages taru all the way.. my first character was elvaan and at time i do wish i was an elvaan drg but hey im a hume i put in time.... oh and taru smns FTW just listen if you ballista dont piss off a melee and then get caught with your pants down always have sprint ready lol. ^^ well level your smn and own everymob you see.
Ya i actually did the same thing as you Specificationdesire
Except i didnt know what my main was going to be so i started with tarutaru as my very first
char. but then i realized that they are only super good mages and not the greatest Melee.
So then i switched to Elvaan (by the way my Tarutaru was already a 25 rdm (i know isnt that high )). But while i was Elvaan i began seeing that i wasnt really into Meleeing as much as i
thought So then i deleted that elvaan when i had already it at a 30 war and all subs
unlocked ;_; (i wish i didnt do that ) So now here i am. A 30 war Hume. Humes are pretty
cool because they can really be any job they want but they cant be te best at the job like the
other races. So i guess my point is If you already picked your main job i suggest be the
best race for that job. I just cant decide to be a mage or melee so i went with Hume
Thank you, yesterday i bought CoP (meh, a lv.65 without CoP ) but finally i got one, and yay Bibiki Bay is now open! ^^ (Still Installing it.) so i think i'll level my taru for now and later i'll get back to my mule and see..
More Opinions And people's experience if they faced the same problem, like the last nice people, Are welcomed.
I started playing XI 3 years ago, and at the time, information regarding what races were good at what jobs was EXTREMELY limited and difficult to find in English. This forum was about the be-all, end-all of info you could get on FFXI in English at that time, and it was really difficult to weed through and pick out what was wrong and what was right. Most of the people who posted here were still starting out and didn't really know very much.
That said, I was torn between whether to play as a Mithra or an Elvaan female. Ultimately, I went with Elvaan female because Mithra looked to um.. breakable.. to me. I knew I was going to play as a RDM and that taru was supposed to be "the best" race for mages, but I didn't know what would be 2nd best, 3rd best, or whatever. The idea of being a taru never appealed to me. I wanted a character that I could see... heh.
I raised RDM to 75 as an Elvaan female and I started getting tired of some of the nonstop picking people do who don't know any better. "Elvaan make bad mages." "Only tarus make good mages" Etc. So I started raising WAR, figuring I'd never be a "good enough" RDM for these people, even though I'd received numerous compliments on my abilities as a RDM.
Sometime after I started raising WAR but before I retired it, I fell upon SMN. I wound up retiring WAR, changing to SMN, and I've never looked back. SMN is my main job and always will be. When I raised RDM, I enjoyed it but I somehow always knew that it wouldn't be my "main job" forever. Even if I raise another job to 75 one day, I feel that I will always be a SMN.
Sometimes I do wish I'd gone with Mithra instead of Elvaan female. I'd have a lot more MP, for one thing. Since I don't really play ANYTHING other than mage jobs, there wouldn't really be any suffering in any other area if I was a Mithra instead.
But the bottom line is, I made my choice and I learned to play my character with the MP pool it has. I raised my character to having 2 75 jobs, 4 sets of AF, completion of all Zilart missions, veteran in a craft, rank 10 in all nations, all avatars, tons of fame everywhere, and a load of rare/ex equipment that wouldn't be easy to get again. I've helped friends kill monsters and get their dream equipment. I've soloed things that are supposed to be unsoloable. I've seen and done a LOT in my time in FFXI as my chosen race/job combination.
And I finally learned to stop listening to other people about being "too weak" for my choices.
Do I sometimes wish I'd chosen my character differently at the start? Yep.
If all you care about is the look of your Character, then change all the Taru's in your game to Hume's. You won't have anymore Taru's running around except for the ones of the opposite sex, but you'll at least look like you want to.
Instructions can be found in the .dat Mod section of the forums.
And I finally learned to stop listening to other people about being "too weak" for my choices.
Thats the big killer about people choosing a race dependent on stats rather than what they want to. Then there are the smart ones that would rather chose race cause they'll be dependent on skill rather than stats. Like the galka mages, choosing galka cause they wanted too, & like taru melee, ftw! XD
Yay, Ty for this Eohmer~
Silentsteel - Taru of Awesomeness on Valefor
80 Whm, 86 Drg, 40 Sam, 37 Blm, 31 Smn, & lower as it goes down... I have way too much play time for no levels, lol.
Haveing done so much on your main char has to count for something. Dont give up on it. Humes make nice Summoners (To have 1000+ HP and 1000+ MP in the game is just plain awsome). Tarus dont make the bests summoners, +300 more mp with the lack of HP on Summoner just dont cut it. If you want and are going to be a dedicated to summoner you have 2 choices, lvl a mule, or lvl your taru.
Heres some pros and cons so you can better make your choice, I will focus more on there pros.
Hume Summoner:
Endgame Stuff (70-75)
HP: You can have 800-1000+ hp at end game. All depends on if you want that extra MP or not.
MP: 1000+ easy on the mp. So not to bad *-*
Stats: As Humes you have the bests all around stats. You wont lack anything. You have ok def, and att, For soloing. You can take dmg if need be without dieing to fast.
Altho i have no proof to show you I am a firm beliver in Avatars are based off our stats. They relate to them and are powerd by them in some ways. With Hume you lack nothing. So your avatars will be very consistant with there dmg and attacks. So this is a nice plus. (Wether you belive me or not)
Taru Summoner:
Endgame Stuff (70-75)
HP: You will allways lack HP here. so you have take take mesures like keeping Stonskin up and Blink. Aswell as sometimes subing rdm for Phalanx. So not to bad but you somewhat end up useing that 200 mp you have to cover your HP to save your life.
MP: You can reach up to 1600 mp here. Thats well over 500 than any other job. Take out 200 for buffs and you have 300 more. Thats 1-2 BPs more. Not a huge advantage but its nice to have that much mp.
Stats:
Low def, again you must take buffs into consideration. other jobs use buffs to better protect themself. You have to use them to prevent death. High MND INT and CHR. So your avatar (again this is where I think avatars are based on our stats) will be able to have higher dmg output than humes. Hold hate a bit better, and heal a bit more. So not bad here.
On a side note you have low stats like str, dex, and agi, so your avatar may miss a bit more and may not do as much melee dmg. Not to big a gap tho, what you plus in will make this up so no worries.
In conclusion Humes make the bests summoner in my opinion. Summoners are basicly a job that does everything. So put that with a race that has stats for that and you have a perfect match. But, you have alot done on your taru, tarus make 2nd choice in summoners do to mp (MP is a summoners life) so you must consider that. You wont be a bad smn, you will still do 2k+ dmg on mobs and you still will have your blm and all your other jobs you have lvld. Dont base your job on your race. Your a taru, dont ever change. Looks are not all that important. Tossing out your char just to be able to change to hume and say I look good in AF? Thats not to bright.
BTW for thos who want to comment on my post, dont... I dont care what you think or not. So if you dont agree with me post away, but it will do no good what so ever. I wont read or listen to you cause I dont care who or what you are. You will become just a peice of data sitting there useless on some computer out there not being payed attention to. Doing nothing.... fadeing with time and space...
SpecificationDesire just ignore that last bit, its ment for all the ppl who think they know something, not you. Take what I have said and think over it. I am not right or wrong. just showing you a point of view you may not have thought of. So take it as you will and I hope you can make a choice that you like.
lmao thats true sev <hume drg and i found that in ballista man smns are like public emeny #1)
lol used drg on the smn, (subbed whm for extra mp and de-buffs, and btw even on my drg i couls silence most mages lol insane i know but man its sooo good to see them run form a casting drg lol)
also on that idea yea i used to gang up on smn's <sry but easy kill if they aren't paying attention
(jump, high jump, 2 shots for lance.... /goodbye smn >.<)
althou i am not saying smn's are bad, if i am not paying attention i have this hulking avater breathing down my neck lol >.> <.< (run! lol)
and have you noticed mnk's (even with basic gear, no O kote and brown belt in a ballist lv 40 are like mini tanks, its not fair the fist hurt like a b#$tch)
well i encurage anyone to do ballista anytime, and i would be gald to do a ballista 60 soon when drg hits 60 <otherwise i bring rdm, refresh/haste whore anyone lol>
well have fun leveling smn and also help growing mages out with lvling, smn is a challaging job for most races when trying to get avaters i know i did mini battles and heres how it went
1/4 shiva
1/1 ifrit
1/1 titan
1/1 guarda
1/2 leviathan
ehhh i hate facing this one.... 1/7 on ramuh <so gald i beat him damn thunderspark>
well any questions on rdm, or drg i can help if ya need also
and avater battles questions ask away i help out with that and here i will take my leave ^^
goodbye and i hoped this helped
(oh 25 hume male smn mp is about 350-380 depending on gear)
Double Post Edited:
also Medalink i do aggree that taru have the advantage over humes in MP but like in all stats we can do alot more then half of the jobs out there, i seen humes that have weakened str and att to most melee and weakened def to most pld, but i always seen the rare pld taru and more happening nin taru (i thinks that becuase of their agi right guys?)
well i always say play what ya like and what ever race you want who cares what others say huh
(also i have some friends who are drk tarus and those Bast$%ds have soooooooo much mp its crazy tring to stop them when they get into a stun craze)
please play a job you love and a race you like (lvling sub character for my hume ^.^ taru blm ^^ and he kicks a$$(lv 20 now i gotta lvl whm sub now <maybe i go mini mnk ^^>) ^.^, but my humes got his hp to back him up which is nice when you over cast on mobs) well thats the end of my speech lol

Reason: Automerged Doublepost
I think what's most important is what you enjoy playing. Yes, there are definately advantages and disadvantages to each race, but ultimately it comes down to your own skill as a player. Some of the best players I've met were playing jobs "unsuited for their race", but they were exceptional at what they did despite the supposed disadvantages. On the flip side, there are also players who are terrible despite being a race that is supposed to be better at the job they're playing. Just because you're a taru, doesn't mean you're a great mage and just because you're a galka, doesn't mean you're a bad one.
Think about what will make the game fun for you, and go with that, because it's about having fun, above all else. If you're not enjoying being a taru, then maybe you should try something different. It's all about what you'll enjoy most. Me personally, I enjoy being a hume. I've tried other races, but I find that hume is what I find most comfortable. If that's what you really want, go for it.
When you summon you can do emotes in your smn macro ^^ or .dat edit so you look like a hume but I wish i was able to do that =( One of my jobs is 75 smn got everything for the job just got ying yang robe awile back 12 kills on him yay
Anyways I suggested to playonline to offer a service to its players i have been playing since Na release of FFXI I would like them to offer a service to be able to change the FACE TYPE or SEX or if possible the RACE of your charter I would p[ay them money to do this im hume smn it just gets kinda old looking at the same charter I want somthin else but I really dont want to start all over ive lved all jobs anyways maybe if enough of you send mail or ask if they could offer this to its players they might do it ^^
