    Re: Diablos

taking potshots at the skill of someone you don't know and didn't see in action is kinda pointless.
Umm...what? Since when did I do that?

I assure you, I wasn't taking "potshots" at anyone. I think you've been misunderstanding my posts.

The RDM/DRK in my PT is a part of a Dynamis LS in which he's the head of the "Chainspell stunner group" for the Dynamis Lord...so needless to say, he handled Diabolos like a champ. Diabolos was barely able to take even a couple swings at us the entire fight (as short as it lasted).
Eh, maybe I'm being oversensitive by looking at this and seeing "if you lose, your RDM/DRK sucked". Was that not what you intended to say?

I guess losing to him several times makes me a little short tempered with people who claim he's easy because they fought him once. He has some very nasty tricks up his sleeve and if he doesn't use them on YOU... count your blessings and don't assume your experience was typical.

I'm completely in agreement. I've lost to Diabolos 10 times before I finally won. And this is EXACTLY what we did:

        Party setup: 3 blms (between 73-75lvl), 1 War, 1 Smn, 1 Rdm/drk. BTW - all BLMs were /rdm subbed.

Buffed up, went into the fight. We approached the ledge, looking down at Diabolos. BLM #1 yelled out the vanadiel clock time we would Elemental seal... then the vanadiel clock time, we would Thundaga III in unison. Red Mage used 2hr. At the appropriate times we cast the Thundaga III spell. As soon as the 1st spell connected, we were all DRAWN INto the battle field.

Upon landing, the RDM began looking out for Nightmare and nothing else. One of the BLM's was back-up stunner. The summoner would use Astral Flow + Chaotic Strike. The rest of the BLMs would nuke.

As soon as I landed I hit my Manafont macro... then ran to a "Safe" tile... Diabolos was still targeted.... and I started casting Blizzaga III.. (as were the other blms). As soon as it landed I started casting Thundaga III again... then Blizzaga III if applicable til he died. Fight lasted 1 min 49 seconds. I think I panicked at one point when I saw Diabolos readies Nightmare, but I had faith in the others in my party and just nuked til there was no tomorrow... I'll post the pick

        End result:

I can't say this is a typical fight for Diabolos, but I can say since we broke the record as one of the fastest fights... it definitely has potentional.

Good luck everyone and I hope this guys you some assistance in your efforst in getting this INCREDIBLE avatar!

I finally got Diabolos yeterday. Had paladin, smn, whm, blm, blm, red/drk party and did well. At 55-60% HP of Diabolos Rdm chainspelled Stun and we blms just nuke away at 50% HP and he was done. Thought I got scare he left aggression from paladin a sec and came our way lol.

                Re: Diablos

Finally got him and I'm still very impressed. Nightmare hits decent well, however it's not nearly as good as Diabolos' version (deals DoT but other damage will awaken the slept). Noctshield is simply awesome if you have a Paladin tank. Ultimate Terror was kinda lack luster...drains stats like Absorb spells, but how many and what stats are random, and it doesn't tell you what stats were absorbed so it's kinda meh. Solomence is nice in that it is Dark Element and adds Gravity...but does very low damage. Casmedo is the same as most other level 10 type attacks for avatars...does decent damage though. I have yet to be able to tinker with Nether Blast (not that high leveled yet) but still he seems worth the anguish I went through.

                      Re: Diablos

I've fought Diabolos several times (once for myself and then as a helper for others because apparently none of my friends seem to know ANY other RDM/DRKs than myself ><; ) ...And no matter WHAT method you use, there's still a margin of luck. I have a timing method that I use for my stuns rather than going by the log, and it works really well ... Except when he resists a stun. Which happens about once per battle. If we're lucky, he doesn't use Nightmare at that point. If we're unlucky, he uses it and his HP are so low by then that if ANYBODY wakes up they can probably kill it. But he always uses Ruinous Omen while we're Nightmare'd heh.. Not a winning combination.

I've been fortunate in that I've been able to win repeatedly despite all of this. And no, it doesn't have to be BLM only, but having a couple of BLMs really helps a lot. The last round I went, we did RDM/DRK, BLMx2, SMN, MNK, and uh.. Something else, I forget what the last job was. Went just fine.

Yes, it's a hard fight. No, there's really no "surefire" method to win, no matter what anyone tells you about bringing a RDM/DRK and a bunch of BLMs. There's always an element of luck, because he CAN resist stun and he CAN do nightmare right after he resists it. Your PT needs to be really skilled, no matter which method you're using to win.

hmm FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1/6 on Diabolos Prime~ woooo!
lol man i wasnt really paying attention to the battle as i was busy keeping myself from dying but... it took us 4min and 30secs but the actual fight took maybe a min and a half... 3 mins of strategy and buffs... bleh well anyways i was the leech^^: haha dont be mad at me though! i did end up spending 3 mil on party members XD! anyways enough of that...haha let me tell you how we did it~

                        Used this party set up:

                        me>>>>leech(lvl37WHM/SMN)
                        75BLM/WHM
                        74BLM/WHM
                        74RDM/BLM
                        74RDM/BLM
                        75WHM/BLM

IM not sure what happened but both me and the WHM two-hour was down(Benediction) so WHM had to CuragaIV couple times...well the battle went pretty fast... It was THunderday and BLMs Cast ThundagaIII from above and we got drawn in... except me because i disbanded the party...and in about 45secs he started dropping tiles...then WHM invited me back...then i got drawn in and Then got hIt my Runious Omen(Ouch) WHM CuragaIV then one of the BLMs die and before i could cast Blink on myself, the battle was over....I was soooo happy i almost wet myself O_o lmao jk~ naw but it was awesome! i know the RDMs chainspell>>something to keep aggro but other then that idk what really was goin on >< but it can be done with only 5 members! keep that in mind! there is hope as i have proved^^ goodluck to you all!!

Congratulations, but Id imagine the problem with taking him down was that the party had a leech in it

                            Re: Diablos

My latest loss to Diabolos: me as RDM/DRK, 3 BLM, PLD, some random DD. BLMs nuke from ledge, draw in, PLD vokes, we start doing some damage, BLMs stun a couple nightmares.

His HP @ 60%, I activate Chainspell. At that *exact second*, Diabolos uses Nightmare. None of the BLMs stuns. By the time I wake up, Chainspell has worn off and a couple people are dead (I think he might have Ruinous Omened then too, not sure). Wipe.

Since the PLD hadn't 2hred in the first run, we decided to try again without Chainspell, with me as the healer. Bad idea - if the BLMs couldn't keep a stun order for half the fight, they certainly couldn't keep it for the whole fight. PLD gets Nightmare > Nether Blasted and dies while invincible is still on (everyone who could heal is, of course, asleep). I don't think we even got the tiles to drop that time.

Sooner or later I'll get one of those mythical easy Diabolos fights... well, unless the people who say that he's easy are just confusing it with the capped mission fight or something.

Well we cant blame you for being a leeche. I can only say to ppl who help a 37 fight and do absolutely nothing beneficial to party: their idiots. Well at least things worked out for you. But if it didnt and they all got r1s that would be so funny.
