Does anyone have the spells lists of the spirit pacts?
I have a friend who has been quite successful at the experiment on how to make spirit pacts cast offensive spells, or defensive spells, without having to cast the defensive spells depending on the element.

he is something like 14/16 for AM's with spirit pacts.
I want to know what the possible spells each can cast first before I dive deeper into the theory which my friend has come up with

          Re: Spirit Pact...

I can tell you up front that elemental spirits can cast most magic that any mage at the summoner's level can cast. For example, if you are a lvl 30 summoner, then the spirit can cast most magic possible for a level 30 mage, but that magic is restricted to that element. Look at this databse here:

          http://twpa.net/ffxi/spells/index.php

And look at the spells for Black Mage. If you have a Fire Spirit, then you can cast all the fire based spells at lvl 30 blm or below, since you're a lvl 30 smn. That includes:

          Blaze Spikes
          Fire
          Firaga

All spirits can also cast enspells of their element so your spirit will also cast Enfire. And that's the best way I can explain it to you. BLM doesn't get their first Ancient Magic spell until around lvl 50, so you need to be a lvl 50+ summoner to use them. There used to be a good site called http://summoner.info/ that had all this info and more but it's been down for a while and I don't know when it'll be back up.

          Double Post Edited:
Notice I said *most* magic. Spirits other than the Light Spirit don't seem to cast -na spells. Earth Spirit will buff with Stoneskin though and Air Spirit will buff with Blink. Water will buff with Aquaveil. Sneak/Invis/Deodorize are also not cast. Spirits also cast enfeebles based on their element. Air casts Silence, Earth casts Slow etc. And Dark Spirit uses DRK spells. Light Spirit is the only spirit that casts curing spells and enhancing spells like Haste and Regen.

I do believe that they can only cast a certain small list of spells.
I havnt seen any elemental spirit pact do any ga spells yet.
            Anyone have any proof/ideas?

This is taken from the guide at:
              http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.h...6232797;num=76

I would take a look at that guide because there is lots of good information that can help you with what you're trying to do but I wasn't about to post the entire guide here.
              _________________________________________________

              Ancient Spirit Magic.

There are 6 Ancient Magic spells in the game: Freeze, Tornado, Quake, Flood, Burst, and Flare. As you can infer from their names they correspond to the elements of Ice, Wind, Earth, Water, Thunder, and Fire, respectively. This means that a given Ancient Magic can only be cast by its elements corresponding Spirit. Ice Spirit casts Freeze, Wind Spirit casts Tornado, etc.

Your Spirits will be able to cast these spells once you reach the appropriate level to use them. The levels for each is as follows.

Freeze - Level 50 (Frost, Paralyze, Blizzard 2, Blizzard 3)
Tornado - Level 52 (Silence, Gravity, Aero 2, Aero 3)
Quake - Level 54 (Slow, Stone 3, Rasp)
              Burst - Level 56 (Shock, Thunder 2, Thunder 3)
              Flood - Level 58 (Drown, Poison, Water 2, Water3)
              Flare - Level 60 (Burn, Fire 2, Fire 3)

Bear in mind, this isn't the whole story. Unlike avatars, you cannot choose what magic spell a Spirit will use. It is chosen somewhat randomly, though certain variables such as day and the elemental weakness of the target come into play.

At the level that a spirit can cast ancient magic, it also has a list of "preferred" spells that it likes to use. You will see these in parentheses in the level chart above. For the most part, the spell the spirit will cast is randomly chosen from that list. However, there are some rules that govern that choice:

1: A spirit will not cast an enfeebling spell that is already stuck on the mob.

2: A spirit is more likely to cast a damaging spell if your HP is low.

3: A spirit is more likely to cast the more powerful spells if the ratio of your Summoning Magic Skill to the mobs level is high.

4: A spirit is most likely to cast a strong attack spell on its weakest day (i.e. Fire Spirit on Watersday) against a mob that is weak to the spirits element.

                Re: Spirit Pact...

I got the spirits they are useless just good for raising sum skills. They take too long to attack or cast their spells so they aren't good in getting agg off you really bad. And they literally have no defense and die within a hit compared to smn taking 2 or more hits from ITs. I dont like them one bit. Was of magic for smns. I think they should just give us another useful smn like Phoenix. Because what use is dark or light spirit if they take too long to cast or get spell you need.

                  Re: Spirit Pact...

Why do people critisize something they know little about?
Yes I know that from a point of view of most summoners that the spirit pacts are totally useless except fo sucking MP.
yes I know that people can use them for grabbing agro off the mob just so they can haul ass and recast carby or another avatar later.

If the summon skill is stongly based around what the elementals can do, AND there is a merit category on smn for reducing the perpetuation cost for the elemental spirit pacts, then isnt there some clue to tell summoners that there IS actually a larger purpose to using spirit pacts than just for saving the hairs on our asses?

Plus having random spells put on ya is dumb. You have to wait till your mp almost over to get protects and shell. If any IT mob attack ya spirit be gone one hit. So them saving your arse is kinda hopeful thinking. If ya near a zone your be fine.
Thought I kinda like earth elemental how when it falls apart when you recall it kinda neat animation. There got to be something to elementals thought not much use for them at this time. Maybe use they them on element weak to them that is con easy prey or below might work?

                        Re: Spirit Pact...

If you cap your smn skill all the time, theres no delay "waiting for your spirit to cast on you"
The majority of summoners use the spirit pacts to distract a mob, only can be done with minimal hate, thus no bloodpacts or casting near the mob.
Surely being a level 70 SMN you have capped smn skill and actually played around with your spirit pacts?

Why not a merit category for avatars?
Why do so many items have smn skill++ when the majority of summoners clearly see no reason to actually put in the time to raise their smn skill or only to raise it to claim to look good because they have capped all their stats?

                          Re: Spirit Pact...

Yeah Light Spirit he only one that is the best. He does pro iv and shell iv on me. But again he do useless stuff like haste. Plus Dark Spirit is worst Spirit of the rest does useless crap. Fire spirit and Ice Spirit actually cast ancient magic IV dmg spells and did pretty well. Rest of spirits never do their crap either. Sorry but to cast a spirit hoping for it to do a particular spell is useless. The best they could do take one hit for ya than hopefully ya made it far. Cause spirits really can't take dmg.
Now as far as smn magic cap well it caps very slow. There is no way to get it cap for user who has a real job in real life and concerns more of getting cop done, rank done etc. I waste 30-1 hour each day to cap and get most like 1-3 skills tops. As far as seeing other high level smns using spirits in parties - Never have in whole game playing for 2 years.
