Can anyone tell me the correct set-up for a smn party. Is 6 SMN the only effective way for a smn pt?

    Re: SMN pt

Actually if you have a RDM and/or BRD it's much more efficient. I haven't been in a large number of SMN PTs, but there's a fair amount of downtime involved just due to the MP intensity inherrent to summoning.

Theres a few ways to go abotu SMN PTing as sharm has added.

theres the red mage bard way or the alternate way is to have a red mage AND a Summoner Sj bard for ballad.

Ive done it this way plenty in my SMN LS PT's and in pick ups. SMN/BRD does ballad and the full rdm refreshes. that way youd have two stacked refreshes goin on.

at lvl 50+ u can go exp from bomb, it was insane exp 250-325 exp when we started exping and went down a bit when we started lvling, u only need carbuncle mitts and light staff so carby perpduration cost is 0. all smns send their carbuncles to fight the bomb till it explodes. SMNs stay away from bomb so they dont get killed from "Self Destruct", also need to go /whm for sneak since there spawn bats at night. from 51-56 i went to Ifrits caulduron (left entrance), PT can be 3-6 smns dependeing on ur lvl.

I've always thougt BRD to be most ideal with 5 smns. All that RDM refreshing would be a pain almost. But then can't speak for them. I know they could handle it. Just speaking as if I was the rdm lol

You don't exactly need a brd, as the 6th member. It's just saves some pocket change. As a /brd already brings enough IMO.

And you can have replace one with some kind of puller/holder. Usually a Ninja/whm.

It really depends what stage of a smn you are.

for the SMN onry PT in ifrit's Caulduron is not really a good idea to bring a no smn job cause he will only make exp lower, the idea of making carbuncle fight against bomb is that its free to have him summoned, so it will cost u 7mp per carbuncle u summon, and u usually use 1-2 carbys per fight, and when ur not fighting u get that mp back due to Auto-Refresh. last time i went there to exp i rested only 2 times while PT was fightiung other bomb, that was in a whole lvl (~11k exp)

/brd sounds nice but I've just become so attached to /whm even though Carby could easily cure ^^ My main is whm after all so it's understandable =P

                    Re: SMN pt

There are many versions of the SMN party. However, what most seem to think of as one is a Eclipse Bite or a Mountain Buster party, either on Sky pots or on Bones in KRT.

Typical setup for these is 5SMN + 1 BRD. Sometimes you will see a SMN/BRD and a SMN/BLM for ballad and escape, in that set up. Other times you will see people replace the BRD with a RDM/BRD.

Another setup and in my opinion a much better one would be 4SMN + BRD + BLM. Especially at 73+ this configuration will be much better than a 5SMN group. 4 Mountain Busters + 1 Ga spell usually will take down any skeleton, but in the off chance it doesn't, you have the BLM and a ThunderIII spell to take it right down quick. Plus you have that good ol' Emergency Escape with a BLM with you.
