hmmm this is prolly a stupid question.. but what is a merit?

What are they used for, and how do u get them.. i read people talking about them.. and im lost..

Merit points are awarded at lvl 75 and in which case you have 2 options. Either gain exp or exp towards merit points. If you go exp towards merit points... 10k exp = 1 merit point. With that merit point you can then enhance your jobs attributes and make them stronger.
