Obi's and Summons

I recently made it to Sea and I've started farming a bit to check out the Obi's from the In the Name of Science Quest but I thought I would post here to see if anyone had had a chance to try them out. I don't know if they have any affect on summons but I thought, why not.

So, anyone try?

fawk on midgard tried water obi with leviathan. any combinations of obi and other gear including elemental stave and AF2 body and af2 hat didn't do anything special.

It has to be the day of the obi or the weather of the obi for it to take effect at all. So pretty much usless for SMN

my friend worked extremely hard to get her Anrin Obi (Dark) and she was saddened to find out that it did all of 0 difference in Fenrir's strength, perpetuation cost, etc. The obi's make the day/weather "boost" from casting spells always there. So they have ZERO benefit to a summoner as currently known.

Considering the Obi's effect the wearer, and an avatar is a completely different entity, it does not work this way.
If the avatar effectivly could wear it then the obi would be useful to summoners.
Obi's are the waist piece.

For a second it looked like the obi's would be extremely awesome... they basically grant all effects of that obi's element in regards to day/weather. So Anrin obi (dark) boost dark spells as if you were casting them on darksday. The OMG that will rock was from looking at summoner relic body and horn which give -perpetuation based on the day to a summon of that element. I.E. wearing anrin obi (dark) and smn body and horn would theoretically give you -6 perpetuation on any day for fenrir.. Unfortunately its been proven that the obi's only affect spells, they dont activate properties on other equip and so we dont get - perpetuation effects activated from wearing obi. Blm's love them tho. 10% elemental damage boost as if it were the same elemental day as the obi youre wearing.

The elemental obi effects only work on the corresponding day. All they do is make the previously somewhat random chance of spells being affected by weather/day and make it 100% in the correct conditions. It's fun to go to Xarcabard/Beaucidine on iceday and double ice weather with a Hyorin obi and kill things. I got the Hyorin (ice) and Rairin (thunder) obi's and quit getting them. The initial buzz was rather interesting about them, until testing was done and the truth about their effectiveness came out. Very limited usefulness in my opinion.

Sadly I can't see how they could effect summoners unless they changed it so that avatar perpetuation was lowered on the corresponding day to the element of the avatar.

For SMNs, the elemental obis don't do anything. If you're a BLM, though, Anrin Obi (dark element) is superb in Dynamis, since it's always double dark weather there. Stronger Sleeps, better Drains, better Aspirs, more damaging Bio IIs. Superior even to Penitent's Rope under those circumstances.
