is ffxi still what i remember

plz i have been away from ffxi for about 4 or 5 months i would really like to know what is going on in vanadiel
are alot of people still playing?
i noticed there is a new flag isthere a new country?
plz i need to know what is going on in my favorite game.

The new flag is the Tavnazian Flag....It's part of the CoP expansion. According to the Census they did a few days ago the number of players is still very steady. Other then that you have SE doing their updates focused a lot around the CoP expansion and building it out still.

EDIT:

If you didn't already know the Tavnazian Achepilangelo is the area you see in the intro Movie for this game. CoP opened up access to reach more of that area where that huge battle was once held.

Fundamentally FFXI is unchanged in terms of game structure and requirements, all that has changed is that S.E. added some fluff to it (I.E. new items, and some more missions, quest, NM, HNMs)

Other than that everyone is still trundling along the same way they have done since the game came out I guess.
