When and how did you gain Fenrir pact?

I'm posting this poll because I'm genuinely curious and also because I need help. I joined the game shortly after the PS2 release of the game, and soon after that the Fenrir battle was made available. Ever since then, I've been obsessed with getting the purple dog. But I wanted to have him at SMN lvl.1 so that his abilities would grow along with me because I'd heard of other people doing it. So I decided to raise WHM up until I could get him. But getting to 70+ is taking MUCH MUCH longer than I thought it would and I'm getting so burnt out. I think the only people who have the pleasure of having Fenrir from level 1 are those that started from the PC version and already had a job at 65+ that they probably used to get the other Prime avatars. Thus, they didn't have to wait very long to push themselves 5-10 measly levels more to take on the dog.

Sadly, I did not have that pleasure as I was still a newb without a subjob when Fenrir was released. Lucky for me, the mini-battles were also released during the same update (pretty sure it was the same one) which was a godsend for me and other low levels. I did the mini-battles so that when it came to Fenrir time for my WHM, I'd only have to fight the big Primes once to get my moon bauble. But still I did not play my SMN any further than 20 because I still wanted Fenrir at a low level. But it's been about 8 months or so now and my WHM is only at 46. I think it's been going so slow in part of the frustration of not being able to play the job I want. I do like being the healer. Trust me, if I didn't like WHM at all, I wouldn't even bother trying to be a SMN. I'm just sick of having to take a job I don't want to the top when SMN is what I really want. But I'm also pretty nervous at leveling SMN now because I've heard of the crap some SMNs get at higher levels who didn't have Fenrir. Who can blame them? He is an extremely useful avatar. But I don't want to go through that.

It's driving me crazy! The path of the Summoner seems to be little more than a vicious circle of stress and frustration. I mean, what other job almost forces you to level another job to 75 just so you can play the job you really wanted to play from the start? I tried, but I don't think I can. The way I feel now I'm almost certain that if I even managed to drag myself all the way to 75 with WHM to get Fenrir, I would be so burnt out that I wouldn't even want to level SMN. Please, I need help making a decision. Sometimes I think I should just take up another job that doesn't take nearly as much work to play to it's fullest.

meh... if i could i wouldve lvled smn without fenrir instead of whm since it takes so long. Fenrir is overrated imo but its nice to have for nin tanks and people that need the extra acc+

Level 35 SMN/RDM and still Fenrir-less. While Fenrir is indeed the end all be all for a SMN, he's not a requirement. Without Fenrir, you find yourself using almost all the other avatars more often...excluding poor Ifrit. Mostly however, Titan, Garuda, and Levithan will run your summoning charts.

Tried Dog the second day of the quest release lost th eBC 6x, tried again next day lost 2x

Leveld SMn to 70 ... got Dog for my "birthday".

Heh, I was 1st to say I just had another 70+ job. It is a tad unfair since unless you have friends in high places (high levels) or are willing to pay one of those very steep fees to have it done for you, most won't have Fenrir without a 60+ at least other job. =/

If you did join a Fenrir below 70+ your a leech because Fenrir is a lvl 80 and you aren't doing any favors for party. You die too early and cant contribute much to party.

Do right way, leeches are terrible dont go that way.

I got Fenrir as soon as it was added to the game, very stressful.

Fenrir is also really nice for soloing as Summoner..

Yeah, I know it's pathetic that I've been playing since last April and haven't gotten anything past 60. I'm lazy, I play sparatically, gil is very hard to make for scrolls, and I've experimented with a couple of other jobs. So sue me.

Sure Fenrir is a very helpful avatar to have during the early levels. But to all of you who think that the only way to play SMN is to level WHM to 75, your logic is a little flawed in my opinion.

1.) First, I want to say that I've enjoyed WHM for the most part so far. But considering what a SMN ends up doing most of the time, why would you want to go through 75 levels as a healer just to end up doing it all over again?

2.) What if you put all that hard work into leveling, get Fenrir, and then discover you don't even like SMN?

Honostly, I feel so trapped in this game. I can't stand leveling a job just so I can play SMN anymore. But then I can't play SMN without Fenrir because people will give me the cold shoulder if I don't have him. Can't go this way. Can't go that way.

You dont HAVE to have fenrir at level 1 as a smn of level another job to 75 just to get him.
The biggest problem i saw in concerns about Fenrir were from the NA population who had jobs other than SMN.
They thought the DOG made a SMN what it is, It doesnt. WHen I started leveling SMN I only had a Green Rat and some elementals.
JPN and Other foreign guys seem to think having the dog is llike having a rolanberry pie. If you got it cool. If not cool.
The need to have fenrir is only fueled by those that think a SMN should heal.

Get Fenrir when you can , not from what anyone tells you.
I knew NA players that had Fenrir before me and I still got more PT call than Them or JP players that had dog. WHY?
Im a good player, Im skillfull in using my avatars in ways other than Blinkga or Stoneskin.

You have to learn to let people not influence what you do in game.
Its a game. I just hope this doesnt fall on deaf ears.
Seriously get Fenrir when YOU want to or people are willing to take you.

To me you're Gimp if you get the dog and still suck as a smn. Not if you have the others and know how to use them effectively.

My only goals since I was lvl 20 was to get Fenrir and Carbuncle mittens thats all I wanted help with nothing else and still now I am lvl 61SMN played for about ONE YEAR without one single soul helping me even once. I am so mad because all I can do is to help people now since I don't want to be 65 without mittens or fenrir. I want to play with fenrir some before all I have to do is to use Eclipse bite. Same with mittens, I want to feel Carb being free sometime ; ;

I got Fenrir a few weeks ago at BRD68 - One of my friends invited me to a Fenrir PT because he had heard I needed it and wanted it badly. We went in and pwned the puppy easily.
